Still a few sprinkles out there this morning south of M-72 as weak
shortwave and attendant bout of just as weak elevated warm air
advection spread across that area. Expect these sprinkles to come
to an end later this morning and early afternoon, leaving behind
mostly to partly sunny skies as surface high pressure builds
overhead. Temperatures will continue to recover, reaching the
upper 60s to lower 70s this afternoon.

Impactful weather: Minimal/None.

Pattern synopsis and forecast:

Deep upper troughing remains settled in over the NE conus early this
morning, while low pressure crossing nrn Quebec is making way for
high pressure just south of the Great Lakes. There is still one more
shortwave and associated sfc trough pressing into Lake Superior,
which was resulting in some increased clouds and isolated showers
across upper Michigan, where H8-h5 lapse rates were a respectable
6.5-7.0 c/km, especially in eastern upper. Most other areas in nrn
Michigan were mostly clear, with temperatures falling into the upper
40s and 50s. A bit chilly. Finally, there was an area of low to mid
level WAA traversing srn WI, that was also resulting in some light
shower development.

The aforementioned shortwave and sfc trough will progress into and
through the region for the remainder of the overnight hours and
after daybreak. This will provide us with some of that isolated
shower activity, before the high pressure and drier air get more
firmly implanted into nrn Michigan for this afternoon. Clearer
conditions are expected for this evening and into the overnight
hours, before skies might increase in higher level cloud overnight,
ahead of additional shortwaves arriving in the WNW flow aloft.

Highs today will be a touch warmer today, in the upper 60s to lower
70s. Lows tonight will dip into the lower 40s and even some upper
30s in most inland areas. Not as cool near the lakeshores.

.SHORT TERM...(Sunday through Monday)

...Cold front brings rain and cooler air...

High Impact Weather Potential: Potentially heavy rain late Sunday.

Synopsis: Current troughing centered over Hudson Bay extends down
into the Ohio Valley, with ridging in the west. Heights rebound
through Saturday and temperatures slowly moderate through the
weekend. By Sunday a shortwave drops down from central
Saskatchewan/Manitoba into southwest Ontario. This develops a
surface low in the upper Mississippi Valley which treks into Central
Ontario. This brings mild moist air into the region Sunday as well
as rain chances late in the day into early Monday morning.

Details: Moisture advection starts up Sunday morning, with clouds
moving in ahead of a diffuse warm front nudging into the western
Great Lakes. We likely won't see much in the way of rain through the
morning before better parameters move into the region. Precip
chances move in from west to east through the afternoon. Instability
and shear increase through the afternoon and evening. Heavy rain
(and thunder chances) really ramp up after sundown as a 40-50 kt low
level jet moves across Michigan. By this time PWAT's increase to 1.7
(well above the 90th percentile for this time of year). Mid-level
lapse rates steepen, bulk shear reaches 50 kts, and MLCAPE may
breach 1000 Joules within a narrow corridor just along and ahead of
the front. Storm motion becomes more parallel with the cold front
late at night, leading to possible training potential after
midnight. We remain in marginal risk for heavy rain which makes
sense especially for the overnight period.

By Monday morning the front should be sliding southeast of our area.
Previous model runs had this stalling out over the thumb, but more
recent guidance has the entire system being a bit more progressive,
settling the front a little farther south before stalling out. Thus
our rain chances Monday look to be a little less than previously
thought. Synoptic moisture gets stripped out through the day, but
there may be enough overlake instability for light showers to move
downwind of the lakes. Highs Sunday will be mainly near or slightly
above 70. Overnight lows remain elevated in the mid to upper 50s
with plenty of WAA overnight. Monday brings in cooler air behind the
cold front, with highs mainly in the 60s.

.LONG TERM...(Monday night through Friday)

The surface front looks to settle into the northern Ohio Valley
through midweek, with the midlevel temperature gradient just to its
north. Guidance has come into a bit better agreement with a potent
wave digging into the southwest Tuesday before becoming a cut-off
low Wednesday...connected to troughing centered over Hudson Bay.
Between the troughing/cut-off and southeast ridging, we'll have a
firehose of moisture pointing directly at the Great Lakes Tuesday
through Thursday. This environment will be primed for any passing
upper disturbances. Differences in timing, intensity and movement of
different features leave plenty of uncertainty for chances/exact
timing. As of now, the best chances look to come with one wave
passing the upper Great Lakes Tuesday night into Wednesday, followed
by another Wednesday night into Thursday.

develop at KMBL. CLouds will be on the increase Sunday morning out

Deep low pressure was crossing nrn Quebec early this morning, while
high pressure and a looser pressure gradient with lighter winds was
moving into nrn Michigan. There is however, still a low end risk for
advisory level gusts in Whitefish Bay through Presque Isle Light .
today into this evening. No enough confidence to issue an advisory
yet though. A few light showers will roam the region into this
morning, before drier air moves in and brings in rain-free
conditions for the afternoon. Low pressure and a cold front move in
Sunday and Sunday night, resulting in the start of several chances
for rain into much the upcoming work week. There is also a better
chance for advisory level winds Sunday, into at least SUnday
night.
