High pressure will drift east toward Bermuda today. A warm
front will lift north across the area tonight followed by a
strong cold front Monday. A period of gusty winds and strong
thunderstorms is expected late tonight into midday Monday. High
pressure returns Monday night and Tuesday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
As of 945 AM EDT Sunday...

Partly to mstly sunny skies this morning become mstly cldy this
aftrn as moisture increases from the west. High res data showing
sct shwrs dvlpng across the west aftr 21Z. Remaining dry from
the bay to the coast. Mild with highs 70-75, cooler at the beaches.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 400 AM EDT Sunday...

A rather eventful period weatherwise is expected to unfold by
late tonight through midday Monday as the aforementioned storm
system and cold front join forces and impact the East Coast.

The warm front to our south quickly advances north the first
part of tonight, then quickly lifts north through our area after
midnight. We'll see an initial round of showers (some heavy)
move north through our area north (ahead) of the advancing warm
front from roughly 02z-10z. The best forcing and lift is
progged to be just west/NW of the local area during this time,
but with a period of moderate to heavy rain still expected along
and N of a line from AVC-PTB-XSA-SBY. Will have categorical PoPs
for most of the FA after 03z tonight. After that, impressive
dynamics kick in as a strong 70-80 kt LL jet crosses the area
early Monday. Southerly sfc winds will already be gusty, so any
convection will just further enhance the damaging wind threat.
Forecast soundings also show impressive helicity values and low
LCL heights, so will have to monitor the threat for a few tornadoes
as well. SPC's new day 1 outlook still clips our far SW FA with
a slight risk thru 12z Mon (marginal risk elsewhere except
along the coast).

The strongest convection is progged to cross the local area from
roughly 11z-17z Monday. SPC's new Day 2 outlook now has most of
our FA in an Enhanced risk (slight risk along the coast). The
front then clears the coast but a secondary trof swinging thru
may kick off anther round of (sub-svr) convection as it tracks
se towards the coast late Mon aftn. Will continue to chc PoPs
along/east of I-95 Monday afternoon and likely PoPs along the
coast.

The other concern Mon will be strong gusty winds outside of tstms
due to a tightening pressure gradient and robust deepening of
the sfc low over the Great Lakes. Model guidance for wind gusts
are rather impressive Mon aftn. Already have a high wind watch
in place for Monday for 50-55 mph gusts. Additionally, a wind
advisory will likely be needed mainly along/east of I-95 for
gusts 35-45 mph. Despite all the wx on Mon, it will be warm
with highs in the upr 70s to low 80s west of the Bay and mid
70s Eastern Shore.

QPF for the event will average 1/2 to 1.5 inches with locally
higher amounts. Widespread flash flooding is not expected.

Partly cloudy Mon night as some mid level moisture lingers
despite high pressure building from the west. Lows mid 40s NW to
mid 50s SE.

Models show the frontal boundary stalling out ivof the Gulf Stream
Tue with waves of low pressure developing along it. In addition,
the next upr trof swings SE into the area from the NW. Some
differences noted in the model moisture fields as to how much if
any pcpn develops across the local area Tue aftn. Partly sunny
in the morning then mostly cloudy in the aftn. Kept slight chc
PoPs in for western/SW areas after 18z. Highs from the upr
50s/nr60 Ern Shore to the mid 60s west of the Bay.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 330 PM EDT Saturday...

The period starts off unsettled with a frontal boundary and weak low
along the SE coast. This will combine with energy from a shortwave
approaching from the west resulting in showers across the area on
Wednesday. This system pushes offshore on Thursday with high
pressure building in through Friday. Another system approaches from
the west beginning late Friday and will bring additional chances for
showers into the weekend.

Coolest day of the week will be Wednesday where high temps won't
make it out of the 50s. Temps rebound to near seasonal norms for
Thursday through Saturday with high temps in the 60s and low temps
in the 30s west to 40s near the coast.

.AVIATION /14Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 640 AM EDT Sunday...

SCT-BKN mid-high clouds will prevail at the terminals through
at least 18z today, before CIGSs lower to 6-12k ft by 00z Mon
as mid level moisture increases ahead of developing strong low
pressure in the Midwest. Could even see a few showers at RIC by
00-03z Mon as the associated warm front approaches from the S.
Light S winds early become S-SW 10-15 kt w/ gusts to 20-25 kt
by late morning and afternoon.

Showers overspread the entire area after 03z tonight as the
aforementioned low pressure system continues to deepen as it
tracks NNE into the srn Great Lakes. CIGs also lower to MVFR tonight
(w/ perhaps a period or two of IFR...especially at RIC). VSBYs
will also be reduced to MVFR/occasionally IFR in the showers.
The warm front moves N of the terminals by Mon AM as a line of
showers/tstms (w/ a few severe storms) moves across the
terminals from W to E from sunrise Mon-early/mid Mon aftn. Even
outside of any tstms, S-SW winds will gust to 30-45 kt (highest
at SBY) on Mon before diminishing Mon evening. Flight
restrictions will likely continue through at least the first
part of the day on Mon.

Outlook...The low quickly tracks NNE into Ontario/Quebec Mon
evening-Mon night as the associated (trailing) cold front
crosses the region. Dry/VFR conditions return Mon night-Tue. The
next chc for degraded flight conditions is late Tue night-Wed
as low pressure tracks from the SE CONUS to just off the
Carolina coast (bringing a good chc of rain to the area).

.MARINE...
As of 400 AM EDT Sunday...

Latest obs/buoy reports reflect SSW flow over the waters ~10-15 kt.
Early morning surface analysis shows ~1024mb high pressure centered
along and just offshore of the mid-Atlantic/Carolina coast.

Expect gradually deteriorating conditions on the waters this
afternoon through Monday afternoon, ahead of a dynamic system coming
together over the central and southern plains. Winds increase to ~15-
20 kt this afternoon, with gusts to ~25 kt in the lower James and
Chesapeake Bay, and eventually the Currituck sound by this evening.
The increasing winds will be in response to tightening pressure
gradient as the rapidly deepening low pressure system to the west
lifts across mid MS valley into the eastern Great Lakes, with its
attendant sfc cold front crossing the area Monday aftn and night.
Winds will back to the SSE tonight as the warm front lifts north of
the region. Seas build to 3-5 ft, highest northern waters

Worst conditions are expected Monday morning through the afternoon,
as the front crosses the waters, and post-frontal strong synoptic
winds ensue. Winds will become S/SW and will pick up to Gale force.
A period of short-lived storm conditions still remain possible
across the northern two coastal zones (ANZ650, ANZ652), and for that
reason have maintained Storm Watch north of Parramore Island. Winds
look to ramp up to Gale force through the morning and into early
afternoon over the Bay and lower James, through a combination of
ongoing convection and with strong post-frontal mixing of impressive
low-level wind field. For that reason, have pushed Gale Watch over
to a Gale Warning for the aforementioned areas south of Parramore
Island. Winds in the northern coastal waters will be 30-35 kts with
gusts 45-50 kts. Waves in the bay will build to 4-6 ft. Latest
Wavewatch and NWPS each build seas to 10-15 ft over the northern
coastal waters, and 7-11 ft over the southern coastal waters.

Winds quickly diminish later Mon aftn and Monday night/Tuesday, as
high pressure quickly building in from the west. However, while seas
start to ease, they will likely take into later Tue/Tue night to
subside below SCA thresholds despite the diminishing winds. Winds
then push onshore by midweek in response to the next front dropping
across the area from the north, with improving conditions by weeks
end, as high pressure builds over the region.

Strong to severe storms and locally heavy rainfall will be possible
with a strong cold front Monday morning. Gusty southwest winds are
likely behind the storms Monday afternoon.
