this evening. High pressure returns Wednesday into Thursday.

As of 305 AM EST Tuesday...

Even in an above normal (temperature) wx pattern...there can be
reminders that its Winter. That will be the case today as lo pres
from the central mtns early this morning tracks E across the FA
midday through this afternoon (while strengthening a bit). The
system's s/w aloft is nicely seen on IR moving through ern KY.
Marginally cold/dry air in place over the region now will be
slightly modified today as winds (starting out calm/lGT-VRB)
become ESE.

Other than patchy ST/FG INVOF ECG/coastal NE NC early this
morning...clouds lowering/thickening through early/mid morning
(will likely be partly sunny at least across ern areas to begin
the day). Pcpn to arrive mid/late morning over the
Piedmont...arriving INVOF the I 95 corridor midday/early this
afternoon then to the coast thereafter. As stated above...some
"warming" expected before the pcpn arrives. Model soundings show
that the sfc/boundary layer becomes sufficiently warm for all
RA along-SE of a line from AVC-RIC- SBY. Mixed SN/RA or mostly
SN is expected NNW of that line. Coldest of the air likely to
remain locked in over areas well WNW of RIC. SN accums of a T to
1" (mostly on grass/elevated surfaces) are possible over that
area of the Piedmont...w/ up to 2-3" over portions of
Fluvanna/Louisa counties. May even be very light accums from
Caroline county to the interior nrn neck/lower MD ern shore (esp
Dorchester county) this afternoon/early this eve. Have posted a
winter wx advisory for Fluvanna and wrn Louisa county today
(i.e., where highest prob for accums is expected)...a special wx
statement (highlighting mixed RA/SN) may be needed to the E of
that area by late this morning depending anticipated impacts.

As of 340 PM EST Monday...

High pressure continues to move offshore Thu night as upper
troughing moves over the Rockies/High Plains. At the same time,
sfc low pressure starts to develop in the srn Plains. Models are
hinting at a weak in-situ wedge setup across the area by Friday
morning. Morning lows will mainly be in the 30s on Fri. Latest
12z/06 guidance is slower with the eastward progression of the
surface low, moving it to a position near ern OK/AR by Friday
evening. Regardless, southerly low-level flow/resultant WAA will
allow milder/more humid air to filter in on Fri. The associated
warm front moves north of the CWA by late Friday but it will
remain dry (except for a slight chc of light rain across the
Piedmont). With the in- situ wedge setup, highs may struggle to
get out of the low-mid 50s across the NW Piedmont. Otherwise,
highs range from the upper 50s- low 60s from AVC-RIC-SBY to the
mid-upper 60s across SE VA/NE NC. With continued low-level
southerly flow/WAA, temperatures will not fall much Friday
night, with lows only dropping into the 50s in most areas.

Even warmer on Sat as the low tracks northeastward to IN/KY/OH.
Rain chances eventually increase across wrn zones on Sat (PoPs
of 50-70%) with only slight chc-chc PoPs across the east. Highs
Sat range from the upper 60s north/west to 70-74F elsewhere. The
low tracks into the northeast CONUS by Sun AM as the (weak)
trailing cold front approaches from the W. PoPs are 50-60%
across all areas Sat night- early Sun AM. The cold front crosses
the CWA from NW to SE on Sun, with diminishing PoPs throughout
the day. Highs range from the 60s across the NW two- thirds of
the CWA to around 70F over SE VA/NE NC. Mainly dry (but still
above average Sun night) with lows in the upper 30s- 40s.
Another low pressure system potentially develops to our west
early next week, with rain chances increasing once again during
the Mon-Mon night timeframe.

As of 215 AM EST Tuesday...

Other than periods of LIFR (due to FG) INVOF ECG...VFR
conditions expected through this morning. Lo pres tracks across
the region late this morning through early this evening
resulting in lowering CIGS (potentially to MVFR) and mainly
RA...though a RA/SN mix is possible at SBY this evening has lo
pres departs off the coast. Winds remain light/calm early this
morning then become ESE AOB 10 kt into this afternoon. Winds
shift to the WNW this evening...and will be gusty (to 20-25 kt)
into tonight. CIGs rapidly improve/clearing out tonight. Breezy
Wed as lo pres intensifies to the NE and hi pres builds in from
the SW. Hi pres passes over the area Thu and then shifts offshore
Fri. Lo pres and an associated cold front approach from the W
Sat.

.MARINE...
As of 340 PM EST Monday...

Optimal conditions this afternoon with westerly winds 5-10 kts.
Waves in the bay are around a foot and seas 1-3 ft. High
pressure will remain in control through early Tuesday. A low
pressure system will quickly cross the area waters Tuesday
afternoon into the early evening. Winds ahead of the system
early Tuesday will be S/SE becoming W/NW after the system
departs Tuesday evening. With the initial surge, wind speeds
will increase to about 15-25 kts. By Wednesday morning the
departing low strengthens and strong high pressure builds in
over the southeast resulting in a tightening of the pressure
gradient over the area. Winds are expected to increase to 20-25
kts with gusts around 30 kts through the afternoon before
relaxing late Wednesday evening as the departing low moves well
northeast of New England, and by Thursday morning N/NW winds
will be down to about 10-15 kts. Waves in the bay will build to
2-4 ft late Tuesday into Wednesday. Seas will build to 4-6 ft.

After coordination with surrounding offices, decided to issue SCA
during this forecast package. The Bay, lower James, southern coastal
waters and Currituck Sound will go into effect tomorrow night at 23Z
and for now goes until 00Z Thursday. The northern coastal waters SCA
goes into effect at 02Z Wednesday until 00Z Thursday.

High pressure will remain in control for Thursday and Friday.
Lingering high seas may remain into early Thursday morning across
the coastal waters, beyond that sub-SCA winds/seas are expected
through Friday.
