A storm force low near 39 N 139 W will gradually weaken as it
moves N into the E gulf Sunday night before stalling and
dissipating through Monday. Another low pressure system will
impact the E gulf and inner channels Tuesday.

A gale force low in the eastern gulf drifts slowly N today and
NW tonight. The low weakens to a front Tuesday as it heads west 
across the northern gulf. A new gale force low approaches from the
S Tuesday and reaches the SE gulf Tuesday night.

Southeast Alaska Forecast Discussion

.SHORT TERM...Satellite imagery and sfc analysis depict a 992mb
gale force low just SW of POW. Guidance has been poor with this
system with GFS depicting stronger solution, but considered an
outlier until about 12 hours ago when NAM/GEM trended towards
stronger solution. Forecast winds were raised this morning, but
not enough as Salmon Landing ob and PAKT rooftop gusted to 52kts
around noon. Air mass RGB shows some stratospheric intrusion with
the low center attm, so expect POW to see increasing winds through
the afternoon/early evening. However, kept mention of gusts to
50mph with HWW only for Z28 through 10pm. Future shifts will need
to monitor winds as this low slides N then NW along the coast as
it gradually begins to weaken. Precip with this system continues
to advect N, but given the stronger offshore flow due to stronger
low, has only made it into S Admiralty. Marine winds also
increasing over Clarence and Sumner Straits attm with SCA Nly in
Lynn Canal. Gales over the SE gulf and Clarence Strait will ease
overnight. Expect precip to continue advecting N with winds
diminishing overnight as the low fills. Attention then turns to a
stronger low moving into the E gulf Sun into Mon. Model solutions
in good agreement with this lows strength in the low to mid 970s
and in fair agreement with the position. This low is expected to
move into the E gulf but remain further W than current system.
This will bring another round of gales to Clarence and most of the
gulf Sun into Mon. With the further W track do not anticipate high
winds, but expect strong wind headlines S of Frederick Sound Sun
evening. Moderate rainfall will accompany this system as well,
especially for southern portions of the panhandle. Given the ppor
model performance with this system, confidence is below average
with impacts from tonight's storm, but increases to about average
with next system Sun into Mon.

.LONG TERM.../ Monday to Saturday as of 9 pm Friday / ... A short
version of the longer term discussion is wet and occaionsally
windy through the week.

The remnants of the strong Sunday low pulls into the northeast
Gulf and weakens on Monday. The various operational solutions are
quite different on positions of this feature in the NE gulf for
being roughly 3 days out from the start time Friday afternoon. For
the panhandle however not much change to the forecast between in
them in the general weather, but individual sites could see big
differences. Generally the weather should be brisk winds, rains
that may be moderate at times and then continued onshore flow from
the gulf.

Another low, this one weaker rolls up out of the east Pacific and
to the southwest of Prince of Wales Tuesday afternoon and then
into the central panhandle Tuesday night. This system should bring
a renewed round of rain and wind to the southern panahndle, and
then spread the rain to the central panhandle with the remnants
headed to the northern panhandle through early Wednesday. The end
of the week continues to shift somewhat as the long range often
does, however it does not seem to be a break in the wet pattern
for the majority of the forecast area through the end of the
month.
