.SYNOPSIS...
Very cold air mass continues to push south and east into Northern
Alaska through the middle of the week with another round of light
snow and clouds over the Eastern Interior helps moderate the cold
temperatures. Temperatures will fall through the remainder of the
week, with temperatures dropping into the 30 to 40 below range
this weekend. As high pressure builds east across the Chukchi,
winds will increase along the West Coast and summits in the
Interior. Wind chill advisories are out for portions of the West
Coast and Interior.

.DISCUSSION...
Aloft, at 500 mb, an Omega block pattern continues over the
Eastern Bering Sea and a trough over Mainland Alaska which will
hold through Tuesday shifting to western Alaska on Wednesday and
then shifts back east over Central Alaska by Friday. 850 mb temps
continue in the -25C to -35C range through much of next week with
well below temperatures continuing for Northern Alaska next week.

Surface...
A 1036 mb high over Siberia continues to push south and east over
the Arctic Plain and offshore waters and Western Interior. A 1008
mb low just east of Banks Island will continue to push north and
east. A 983 mb low pressure system in the Gulf of Alaska will
push NW and will strengthen to 978 mb Monday as it nears the
Seward Peninsula. As this low strengthens, the pressure gradient
between the high over Siberia and this low low will produce gusty
winds over Norton Sound and the West Coast on Monday.

West Coast and Western Interior:
Winds generally north to east at around 15 mph. Along the Chukchi
Sea Coast and through the Bering Strait winds will be north to
northeast at 15 to 25 mph and gusty to 35 mph. Temperatures
continue to cool with lows along the coast falling into the 20s
below, and inland they will fall to the 30s to 40s below. The cold
will continue through most of next week. Wind chill advisories are
out for most the west coast through Monday and may need to be
extended into the middle of the week as the cold airmass and
winds are expected to continue.

Arctic Coast and Brooks Range...Wide range in conditions with
areas of clear and areas of stratus, flurries and fog over the
north slope. West to northwest winds along the coast will persist
through Monday over most areas at 10 to 20 mph. Inland winds will
be light and variable except near the Brooks Range Passes where
north winds will be gusting to around 25 mph on and off through
Sunday. Well below normal temperatures are expected to continue
through next week.

Interior...Temperatures will remain well below normal over the
Central and Eastern Interior through next week. Temperatures in
the 30s and 40s below this morning have warmed with another round
of cloud, light snow and flurries over the Eastern and Central Interior.
The light snow and will diminish tonight and with variable cloud
cover tomorrow, temperatures will likely drop again into the 30s
and 40s below and remain cold for the rest of the week. Temperatures
will vary where there is some cloud cover. The pressure gradient
is still tight over higher terrain. Wind Chill Advisories remain
in effect for zones 220 and 221 and a Winter Weather Advisory for
blowing snow and low wind chills remains in effect for zone 218
through Monday. Zones 225 and 226 have Wind Chill Advisories in
effect through this evening for low wind chills. Low wind chill
values will likely continue into mid week over highway summits in
the Interior.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.
