Snow chances will linger through much of Thursday and Friday for the eastern Interior as a low moving into the northern Gulf of Alaska spins several waves of moisture north and west. Very cold air will push south and east into Northern Alaska through the weekend. Temperatures will fall through the remainder of the week, with temperatures dropping into the 20 to 40 below range this weekend. && .DISCUSSION... Aloft, at 500 mb, an Omega block pattern setting up over the Eastern Bering Sea and a trough over Mainland Alaska today, then will hold through the weekend. Very cold air will plunge south and east out of Siberia and across Alaska, with 850 mb temps for much of northern Alaska at least -20C by Friday and near -30C north of the Brooks Range. 850 mb temps continue to drop through the weekend, with 850 mb temps ranging between -30C and -35C for much of the central and eastern Interior and North Slope by Sunday. Surface... High pressure over mainland Alaska will persist. Ridging continues to build east over the Arctic Plain as a 1026 mb high in Siberia strengthens and builds east as a 1035 mb high by Saturday. West Coast and Western Interior: As high pressure builds in from the east, skies will begin to clear Thursday, with mostly clear skies expected Friday and Saturday.
