.SHORT TERM...(Today through Sunday Afternoon)

Upper ridging will build over the region today pulling up some
warmer air on southwest surface winds ahead of an incoming front.
Highs will climb into the 30s in the east with temps well in the 40s
west of the Missouri. The big question is how strong the winds will
be tonight. The pressure gradient increases to 14 mb across the
state this evening with 65 kt winds at 850 mb. However, no model
indicates great mixing toward the surface, except the ARW and a
couple of NAM derivatives that also indicate some upslope showers
along the Prairie Coteau. Winds could mix down in the higher
elevations west of the Missouri and then again along the Coteau
while missing much of the rest of the area. Therefore, decided to
hold off on a headline at this point. Did add in some pops in the
east. Any winds with showers or over the fresh snow in the east
could cause blowing snow.

Quieter, but cooler, conditions are expected for Sunday as high
pressure builds in at the sfc.

.LONG TERM...(Sunday Evening through Friday)

The strong winds from Sunday will gradually decrease Sunday night as
a weak surface ridge overtakes the area. Dropped lows just a few
degrees from inherited guidance due to the lighter winds. Although,
soundings do indicate mid and high level clouds so did not go as
cold as some guidance indicates. Monday looks to be another mild day
with above normal temperatures. Thermal profiles would support highs
in the 30s across the region. Models then seem to be coming into
agreement with an intrusion of colder air by Tuesday. This pattern
change to colder weather looks to stick around through the end of
the upcoming week.

As for precipitation, things look rather quiet through the period as
models currently do not show any major systems impacting the region.
There may be some weak shortwave activity here and there, but
nothing looks to generate any meaningful precipitation at this time.

VFR conditions are expected through today and tonight at all
airports. The issue during this time period will be the strength
of the northwest winds developing tonight and continuing into
Sunday morning. The depth of the mixing layer affecting momentum
transfer along with the surface pressure gradient will be the
issue on how strong the winds get. Do expect strong enough winds
at the surface to develop this evening and overnight of 25 to 35
knots. Expect very strong winds off the surface to 2000 feet of up
to 50 to 60 knots bringing llws to all airports into Sunday
morning.
