.The storm system that brought a long duration heavy snowfall
event to much of northern and western Utah will finally exit the
state tonight. One last piece of this storm will focus in on 
portions of the Wasatch Front tonight. Lake effect snows late this
afternoon across Salt Lake and northern Utah counties will
decrease early this evening, then pick up again later tonight for
mainly Salt Lake and Davis counties. This last snow event will end

.The storm system that brought a long duration heavy snowfall
event to much of northern and western Utah will finally exit the
state tonight. One last piece of this storm will focus in on
portions of the Wasatch Front tonight. Lake effect snows late
this afternoon across Salt Lake and northern Utah counties will
decrease early this evening, then pick up again later tonight for
mainly Salt Lake and Davis counties. This last snow event will
end during the early morning hours Thursday.

.SYNOPSIS...A relatively mild southwesterly flow will prevail
across the region through tonight. A couple of weak weather
systems embedded within this flow will pass through the area
during this time. A stronger and colder storm system will impact
the region Tuesday into Wednesday, with high pressure following
late in the week.

.DISCUSSION...The next 48 hours look to be very busy with the
approaching large upper level weather system. This morning, gusty
southwest winds persist across most of the state and into
southwest Wyoming and should continue for most of the next 24
hours or more. As the upper level trough deepens further moving
southeast from the West, the low-level environment will see a
continued influx of moisture. Southwest favored areas in the
southern mountains will see additional snowfall tonight. As the
storm system continues to evolve and warm advection aloft changes
to cold advection mid day Tuesday, impacts will become elevated for
many areas. Regarding precipitation, rain changing to snow
(valleys) and continued snow but less dense accumulations
(mountains) will be the focus and timing for these impacts are
coming into alignment.

Current thinking will turn toward messaging and headlines needed
for tonight for southern Utah and northern Utah including
mountains beginning Tuesday morning. Comparing this storm system
and setup to previous events in the last year or so as memory
serves me, there is potential for a stalling front and a delayed
time for onset of the higher impacts. However, given the time of
day and the cooling of the airmass, the impacts should play out
for an evening commute Tuesday and/or a morning commute on
Wednesday for many valley locations across northern Utah.

Given the storm that took place over the weekend with warm and
wet precipitation, the danger for additional heavy, wet snow with
strong gusty winds is concerning for the mountains of northern and
central Utah.

More updates to come this afternoon.

.AVIATION...South winds will be the main weather concern at the SLC
terminal through the TAF period with gusts at or above 35 kts
through this afternoon. Ceilings should remain above 7000K ft AGL
through about 22-24Z then lower to about 4000-5000K ft with
showers increasing in coverage overnight. Conditions will
deteriorate after 15z Tuesday to low MVFR/high IFR in rain-snow
mix.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for the western two thirds of
Utah and southwest Wyoming.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

A relatively mild southwesterly flow will prevail across the
outlook area today, resulting in gusty winds across most valley
locations.

High elevation snow will continue across the higher terrain of
northern Utah through tonight, with a few inches of additional
accumulation.

Valley rain and mountain snow is expected to spread into southwest
Utah this afternoon, and continue through tonight. Accumulating
snow is expected above 6500 feet.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday

A much colder storm system will impact much of the outlook area
Tuesday through Wednesday. The cold front will cross northern Utah
during the mid to late morning hours Tuesday dropping snow levels
to the valley floors, while significant snow is expected across
the higher terrain and perhaps into the valleys as well. Snow is
expected to linger into the day Wednesday night before tapering
off.
