.SYNOPSIS...
Santa Ana winds have peaked this morning and will continue to
relax through the afternoon. Dry air will continue to move into
Southern California today, briefly modify on Tuesday as winds turn
onshore ahead of the next offshore push. The next Santa Ana wind
event arrives Tuesday night and will be strong. Strong and
potentially damaging winds in areas are forecast Tuesday night
through Thursday morning. These northeast winds will usher in an
extremely dry airmass into Southern California, which will
remaining place through the weekend, even as winds relax by
Friday and through the weekend.

Santa Ana winds peaked have reached their peak earlier this
morning. Peak wind measured this morning with this event was 68
mph at Pleasants Peak in the Santa Ana mountains. Strong winds
continue in corridors, especially below the Cajon Pass and along
the Santa Ana foothills. Dry air (dewpoints in the single digits
and teens) over northern areas will move into San Diego County
through the afternoon. Winds and humidity will moderate tonight-
Tuesday as winds become onshore ahead of a stronger Santa Ana
which begins Tuesday night. More details on that this afternoon

Northeast winds are expected to become stronger and more
widespread after sunrise this morning with strongest gusts to
around 65 mph below the Cajon Pass and near the coastal slopes of
the Santa Ana Mountains. The winds are expected to diminish during
the late morning and afternoon.
Weak onshore flow will follow for tonight and Tuesday. Another
round of stronger and more widespread east to northeast winds are
expected for late Tuesday night through Thursday afternoon with
the strongest and most widespread winds on Wednesday.
High temperatures for most areas will be warmer today and Tuesday
than on Sunday, but will remain below average. Wednesday high
temperatures will be cooler, followed by a warming trend into next
weekend.
There remains the possibility for patchy frost early this morning
in some high desert areas, mostly in lower lying areas west of
Interstate 15. Patchy frost is once again possible for late
tonight into Tuesday morning. There is greater potential for more
widespread frost and freeze conditions across the high deserts for
Tuesday through Thursday nights.
A very dry atmosphere will remain in place for Friday into next
weekend, but with much weaker winds.

281500Z...Northeast winds through 19Z, from the mountain crests west
and south into the valleys with speeds 20-30 kt with gusts 40-50 kt.
This will produce mdt to strong up/downdrafts and LLWS over and west
of the mtns. KONT, KSBD and KSNA could be impacted by LLWS and
periodic strong northeast winds through 19Z. Otherwise, clear skies
today and tonight.

Offshore flow with easterly winds could produce isolated gusts over
20 knots at times on Wednesday and Thursday. Otherwise, no hazardous
marine weather is expected through Friday.

.FIRE WEATHER...
There will be areas of northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to
55 mph this morning for the mountains of San Bernardino,
Riverside, and Orange Counties, the Inland Empire, and inland
Orange County with gusts to 65 mph below the Cajon Pass and near
the coastal slopes of the Santa Ana Mountains. The winds will not
be as strong across San Diego County today. Lowest daytime
humidity for inland areas today will fall to around 10 percent
with critical fire weather conditions today for the mountains of
San Bernardino, Riverside, and Orange Counties, the Inland Empire,
and inland Orange County.
Weak onshore flow will return for tonight and Tuesday.
Another round of stronger and more widespread east to northeast
winds are expected for late Tuesday night through Thursday
afternoon for mountains, valleys, and inland Orange County with
the strongest and most widespread winds on Wednesday. Lowest
daytime humidity will fall to around 5 percent with poor overnight
recovery.
Winds will be weaker for Friday through next weekend, but with
only a very slow recovery in the very low humidity with elevated
fire weather conditions for mountains, valleys, and inland Orange
County.
