.SYNOPSIS...
Issued at 239 AM CDT Thu May 2 2019

Early this morning a frontal boundary was just beginning to push
into the northwestern portion of the CWA. Some convection was
starting to push northeastward into south central Missouri, in
particular for Howell, Shannon and Oregon counties for the next
few hours. Additional convection was located behind the cold front
in central Kansas and was quickly shifting east.

Region remains in broad southwesterly flow aloft, so the frontal
boundary will be slow to move across the area today. The main
forecast focus will remain with convection, especially over the
eastern Ozarks and the continuation of flooding across the area.

.SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight)
Issued at 239 AM CDT Thu May 2 2019

For the remainder of the current overnight period into today,
convection will continue to shift northeast into the eastern
Ozarks as an upper level shortwave embedded within the broad
southwesterly flow lifts northeast from the ARLATX region into the
bootheel region of MO by this evening. In addition, frontal
boundary should be slowly moving east across the area during the
day today. If the atmosphere can recover over the eastern Ozarks
during the afternoon, some additional strong to possibly severe
storms will be possible in the far eastern Ozarks later in the
day. This will also be conditional on how far east the outflows
and frontal boundary push during the day. Am planning on
maintaining the flash flood watch through 00z with all of the
ongoing flooding and convection expected today. May have a lull in
the precipitation tonight, but another shortwave embedded within
the southwesterly flow aloft will begin to move in towards Friday
morning and could see convection move in from the southwest by
sunrise.

.LONG TERM...(Friday through Wednesday)

Pretty good chances of showers and thunderstorms for Friday into
Friday night as the main upper trough shifts east across the area
with some lingering showers and thunderstorms into Saturday
morning across the eastern Ozarks. At this time, we are not
expecting any widespread severe storms, but there will maintain
the potential of heavy rain. Day shift may need to consider
another flash flood watch for Friday into Friday night with all of
the flooding already going on.

In the wake of the upper trough, it does appear dry for a period
between Saturday night and sunday.

A closed system will move into the southwest U.S. over the
weekend, with some energy moving out of the low and across the
plains and MS valley on Sunday night. With the low level jet
expected to redevelop on Sunday night, may have some showers and
thunderstorms move back into the area by then which would linger
into Monday.

Another shortwave moving northeast into the area on Tuesday will
bring more showers and thunderstorms to the area Tuesday into
Wednesday, so the unsettled pattern doesn't appear to let up much
over the seven day period.

Remnant showers from AR pushing across BBG and SGF sites as of
1045z. Frontal boundary was just east of JLN and some dense fog
and IFR ceilings have settled in there just behind the front. Fog
should lift as front edges further east, but will likely continue
IFR to MVFR through much of the day there and it will likely
spread east to affect the SGF/BBG terminals later in the day.
Expecting MVFR and IFR conditions tonight as well.

Weather hazards expected...

  Elevated flooding risk.
  Limited lightning risk.

DISCUSSION...

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will be possible
today, especially east of US Highway 65. Severe weather is not
expected.

Flooding will be ongoing today, especially near rivers, streams
and low lying areas throughout the Ozarks.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.

  Another round of showers and thunderstorms will move into the
  area Friday into Saturday.

  Another unsettled period will then arrive from Sunday night
  through the middle of next week as a series of upper level
  disturbances move in from the southwest.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

  Spotter activation will not be needed through tonight.
