.SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight)

Today will mark the start of a rather active weather week. A warm
front will move north through the region through the day today
with a moist airmass rolling into the area behind the front.

As the warm and moist air moves into the region a rather dynamic
upper level system will begin moving across the plains. This will
bring the potential for showers and storms to develop this
afternoon and continue into this evening. While instability will
be limited, between 500-800 j/kg, for the most part the overall
dynamics of this system will be enough for strong to severe storm
development.

The storm mode may initially be supercellular but will quickly
line out and become more of a broken QLCS. The primary concerns
with the severe storms will be damaging straight line winds across
the Ozarks but a tornado or two may be possible mainly east of
Highway 65 this evening.

The storm system will continue to impact the region this evening
and overnight with surface winds expected to be sustained from 25
to 35 mph and gusts from 45 to 55 mph at times. This has prompted
a Wind Advisory from 6 pm tonight through 9 am on Wednesday.

.LONG TERM...(Wednesday through Monday)
Issued at 212 AM CST Tue Nov 26 2019

Winds will begin to fall below Wind Advisory levels through the
day Wednesday with a short period of quiet weather expected.
Temperatures will only climb into the 40s for most of the region
however as winds will be northerly through the day.

The next in a series of weather systems will then begin to move
into the area Wednesday night. Precipitation will spread over the
region by early Thanksgiving morning. With the cold air in place
with lows in the lower to middle 30s, either a cold rain or rain
mixed with some snow will occur. Little if any accumulations are
expected though some grassy surfaces may see a dusting. No impacts
are expected however.

Additional rounds of precipitation are forecast to move over the
region through the day on Thanksgiving, through Friday and into
Saturday. Overall rain amount over this period are expected to be
between 1 and 3 inches. This may cause some isolated flooding of
low water crossings to occur.

Precipitation will lift north of the area by early Sunday though
some showers may linger over portions of central Missouri.

A large scale pattern shift will occur by this weekend as the
upper level flow transitions to northwesterly. This will help
keep temperatures cool with highs in the 40s and overnight lows
in the 20 as we head into the first week of December.

A strong storm system is approaching the area from the west today.
Gusty southerly winds will occur ahead of the system this
afternoon. MVFR ceilings and fog will be possible this afternoon
ahead of a front across portions of southern Missouri into
portions of central Missouri.

Showers and storms will develop across northern Arkansas and will
move northeast across south and central Missouri later this
afternoon into early this evening. The front will then sweep
across the area later this evening, with additional showers and
storms possible.

Behind the front a dry air mass will move into the area brining
VFR conditions to the area. Winds will switch to the northwest
behind the the front and increase and become quite gusty later
this evening into early Wednesday morning.

DISCUSSION...

A period of scattered strong to severe storms is expected early
this evening into tonight along and ahead of a strong cold front.
Damaging winds will be the main risk. Given the strong vertical
wind shear expected to be in place, a brief tornado will be
possible. If hail does occur with the strong to severe storms,
hail size will likely be nickles or smaller. Storms will move
rapidly to the east once they develop.

Strong surface winds are expected tonight through Wednesday
morning. The strongest winds will occur tonight just behind the
front with gusts of 45 to 55 mph expected.

A limited fire danger will exist, especially over southeast
Kansas and western Missouri where rainfall is expected to be
lighter and dry air is expected to move in from the west.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday.

Periods of moderate to heavy rain will be possible from Thursday
to Saturday as a series of weather systems move through. Rainfall
totals from Thursday through Saturday may exceed three inches in
some areas. Rainfall of this magnitude is capable of producing
creek and river flooding along with low water crossings.

A few snow flakes may fall across portions of central missouri
Thanksgiving morning. Little or no accumulation is expected at
this time.
