.SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight)
Issued at 241 AM CDT Thu Aug 22 2019

Early morning showers and thunderstorms with locally heavy rain
continue as a result of a slowly progressing cold front, low level
jet, right entrance region of the upper jet, and a very moisture
airmass. Expect coverage to decrease later this morning and
afternoon, but could still see some isolated to scattered storms
this afternoon that could be briefly strong to possibly severe
over southern portions of the area. Will continue to see a flash
flood threat into this morning, so have left the Flash Flood Watch
in place. Temperatures today will be quite a bit cooler than
yesterday, topping out in the low to mid 80s.

An impulse looks to push east along the OK/KS border and into the
area late this evening into tonight. Heavy rain will again be
possible in areas that are currently seeing decent rain. There is
typical uncertainty with placement and amounts of rain, and also
for driving features such as strength of the low level jet, but
another Flash Flood Watch may be needed for more southern portions
of the area. Precip should diminish through the day Friday. Highs
on Friday look to be in the upper 70s to low 80s.

.LONG TERM...(Friday through Wednesday)

Additional rounds of shortwave energy will keep precipitation in
the forecast through the weekend and into Monday, with potential
for another round of heavy rainfall Friday night into Saturday
morning. Low confidence in any details as far as how much and
where, but will need to be watched. Highs around 80 through the
weekend will continue the below normal temperature trend.

Monday looks a bit warmer with highs in the mid 80s. This will
proceed a cold front set to move through Monday evening into
Monday night. Expect showers and thunderstorms with the front.

High pressure settling in behind the front should lead to reduced
rainfall chances Tue through Thu. Temperatures will continue to be
below normal with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and lows in
the 60s.

Showers and thunderstorms with VFR to MVFR ceilings and
visibilities were moving south across the region. This will
continue through the overnight and into Thursday morning. Periods
of heavy rainfall may limit flight conditions to IFR for times if
thunderstorms move over the regions terminals. Some improvements
may occur towards the afternoon but showers may be lingering over
the area.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of the Missouri
Ozarks and extreme southeast Kansas.

.DAY ONE...Tonight.

Weather hazards expected...

  Limited hail risk.
  Limited thunderstorm wind damage risk.
  Limited flooding risk.
  Significant lightning risk.

DISCUSSION...

Thunderstorms will develop through this evening across the
Missouri Ozarks and southeast Kansas, with those storms
continuing overnight while gradually shifting south.

Hail to the size of half dollars and locally damaging wind gusts
will be possible with a few storms. Frequent lightning and heavy
rainfall can also be expected with these storms. The heaviest
rainfall will occur tonight from southeastern Kansas into central
Missouri where there is an elevated risk for flash flooding.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday.

Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will continue
through Friday night and possibly into Saturday. A limited risk
for severe storms will continue into Thursday. An elevated flash
flooding risk will persist into Thursday morning from southeastern
Kansas into central Missouri.

A slight chance for thunderstorms will then continue through the
remainder of the weekend with better chances for storms returning
next Monday and Tuesday.
