  then will slowly subside on Sunday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or
occurring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires
experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly
recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe
harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.

A Small Craft Advisory means that wind speeds of 21 to 33 knots
are expected to produce hazardous wave conditions to small craft.
Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller
vessels should avoid navigating in these conditions.

...SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY FOR HAZARDOUS SEAS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM
PST SUNDAY...
...SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IS CANCELLED...

The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a Small Craft
Advisory for hazardous seas...which is in effect until 10 AM PST
Sunday.

* SEAS...West swells 15 to 19 feet.

* DOMINANT PERIOD...12-13 seconds.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Small Craft Advisory for hazardous seas means that waves are
expected to be hazardous to small craft. Mariners should avoid
shoaling areas. Long period swell can sharpen into large breaking
waves in shoaling areas. It is not unusual for waves to break
much farther from shoaling areas than is normally experienced.
Remember, breaking waves can easily capsize even larger vessels.

What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this small craft advisory went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

NWS Seattle, WA wrote its last area forecast discussion before this small craft advisory went out at Jan 15, 8:28 PM PST, 6 hours 1 minute earlier.

Area forecast discussion, Jan 15, 8:28 PM PST, 6 hours 1 minute before
Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Seattle WA
828 PM PST Tue Jan 15 2019

.SYNOPSIS...Dry conditions will linger tonight with increasing
clouds. A chance of light showers will return Wednesday mainly along
the coast and south, followed by a more widespread rain and periods
of breezy winds Wednesday night through Friday morning. Another wet
system will affect the area Saturday followed by unsettled weather
into early next week.

&&

.SHORT TERM...One last dry night before a pattern change on
Wednesday. Temperatures will be a few degrees warmer overnight
thanks to some high clouds (no 20s). Fog coverage, near the
sound, will also be less. No updates necessary. 33

Previous discussion...The upper level ridge extending from the
northern intermountain area into British Columbia will shift to
the northeast tonight as an upper level low begins to lift
northward along the California and Oregon coast tonight. This
feature will open up and fragment as it lifts northward along the
Washington Coast Wednesday bringing a chance of showers with it.
This will mainly affect the coast, Olympic Peninsula and south
interior Wednesday morning, and points further north in the
interior during the afternoon. At low levels offshore flow will
continue Through Wednesday night with periods of breezy
conditions. An approaching storm system will bring more widespread
precipitation to the area Wednesday evening. The surface low
associated with this system is forecast track to weaken as it
approaches with little more than breezy winds into early Friday
morning.

.LONG TERM...Previous discussion...Post frontal showers will
linger through the day Friday, with a short-lived ridge moving
onshore ahead of another system approaching from the Pacific. This
system continues to look to be the wettest system of the week
with a warm front bringing widespread rain to the area Friday
night followed by a cold front early Saturday morning. The pattern
continues to look relatively progressive limiting the heaviest
precipitation to the southwest facing slopes of the Olympic
mountains. The bulk of the precipitation with this system
continues to be forecast further south over Oregon and even
Northern California. Post frontal showers will linger Sunday
expected to move into the area. Medium range models continue to
hint that this system will mostly affect British Columbia Monday.
Model agreement remains tenuous at best beyond Monday, with some
hints at an upper level ridge developing over the Eastern Pacific
and perhaps a break in the weather sometime around mid week.

&&

.AVIATION...Upper level ridging over the region will maintain dry
and stable conditions for Western Washington tonight. The flow
aloft is southerly. May see patchy fog in the south sound tonight.
Otherwise, ceilings are mainly VFR with increasing mid/high
clouds. Rain will increase south to north Wednesday afternoon and
evening as the next frontal system moves in. 33

KSEA...Dry conditions tonight with VFR conditions expected.
Light/variable winds at the surface. Increasing clouds on
Wednesday with rain reaching the terminal Wednesday night. 33

&&

.MARINE...Offshore flow will continue over the waters due to
strong high pressure east of the Cascades. A pair of strong
Pacific frontal systems will reach the area Wednesday and Thursday
for increasing S/SE flow over the waters. A Gale Watch is in
effect Wednesday night for the Coastal Waters and west entrance.
A third strong system will reach the area on Friday with seas
building to 18-22 feet. 33

&&

.HYDROLOGY...The weather pattern will be changing to a rainy pattern
for the last half of the week. The storm track will bring several
storms through the area with each one a little stronger. The third
storm coming in on Saturday will be the strongest of them. While no
one storm looks to produce more than generally 1 to 3 inches of
rain, the accumulative effect will drive rivers up. The greatest
amount of rainfall will once again be over the Olympic Peninsula and
it may be enough to drive the Skokomish River above flood stage by
the weekend. River flooding elsewhere is unlikely over the next 7
days.
