.SYNOPSIS...
Gusty winds and colder today. High pressure Saturday. Warm
front will bring wintry precipitation Sunday into Monday. Heavy
rain with stationary front Monday night through Tuesday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 1005 AM Friday...

Made small adjustments to the sky grids, but otherwise, no
changes to the colder and primarily drier forecast for today.

As of 500 AM Friday...

Updated to expire portions of the Wind Advisory.

As of 250 AM Friday...

Heavier rain has moved off to the east of the flood watch area.
With problem areas already under warnings, will drop the flood
watch and just continue with the warnings.

Gusty winds can be expected today behind a cold front. With a
steep lapse rate below 850 mb and dry air above 850 mb, will see
some strong wind gusts today with mixing. Will extend the wind
advisory for the higher elevations of the northern mountains
through this evening.

Will be a battle between drier air moving in today and clouds.
Ruc is a bit more aggressive at keeping the low level moisture
than the meso NAM. Have hedged a bit between the two. Could see
some light snow this morning in the northern mountains before
the air gets too dry, but confidence is not high.

Warm air advection sets in tonight, so should see clearing,
although timing is up for debate.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
As of 330 AM Friday...

Warm front approaches the region on Sunday. Overrunning will
make for a mixed bag of precipitation Sunday night into Monday
morning. Not seeing much in the way of accumulation, with maybe
an inch of snow/sleet in the mountains and less than an inch
across Northern WV and SE Ohio. May be a brief period of
freezing rain as well, but ground temperatures are warm and not
expecting much impacts from this, with maybe a trace of ice
possible on elevated surfaces.

As of 335 AM Friday...

Warm and moist SW return flow pushes into the area starting
Monday, with a very similar set up to what we have experienced
the past few days. A stationary boundary sets up from SW to NE
with parallel flow along the boundary from the SW providing an
abundance of moisture. GFS ensembles showing PWATs approaching
3 standard deviations above normal across the Ohio Valley on
Tuesday. Antecedent conditions are of course very wet and any
additional heavy rainfall will easily cause more flooding issues
across SE Ohio. Will add to the HWO with this mornings package.

Forecast soundings are showing some colder air still stuck in
the mountains Monday night into Tuesday morning before being
scoured out on Tuesday. Could see another period of wintry mix
across the NE Mountains, but confidence is low at this time
whether or not this cold air will remain, as ECMWF warms surface
temps above freezing with all rain expected this time frame.
Even so, the main story is going to be the threat for more heavy
rain and flooding across SE Ohio.

The front should exit the region after midnight Tuesday with
some colder air behind it. From there the models diverge
significantly. The GFS keeps high pressure to our south and
cold air in place until the end of the week and the ECMWF
pushing the high to our east and we end up on the warm side with
SW flow. Will just go with a blend of ensemble and deterministic
this time period, which keeps temperatures around normal for
this time of year in the low to mid 40s.

As of 600 AM Friday...

Gusty winds and MVFR stratus can be expected behind a cold front
this morning. Some light snow can't be ruled out in the northern
WV mountains. Ceilings will gradually improving today. VFR
conditions can be expected by tonight.

Some streams and creeks remain out of their banks across Southeast
Ohio with many roads still closed due to flooding. Also, expect
strong rises on the Ohio River today and streams and creeks that flow
into the Ohio River will likely become backed up with some minor
flooding possible.

Heavy rain and flooding will be possible Monday night through
Tuesday. A flood watch may be needed at a later time.
