Winds will be breezy again across the high country and far southeast plains as mixing brings down stronger winds aloft. Overall though, forecast area will remain dry with some passing high cloudiness at times. Temperatures will top out in the 60s across the lower elevations, with 50s for the valleys and lower mountain communities, with 30s and 40s across the high country. Lee troughing tonight will keep temperatures warmer along the I-25 corridor where westerly drainage winds will help keep lows near 40. Kept lows on the cold side for the typically cold valley locations. -KT .LONG TERM...(Tuesday through Sunday) Issued at 414 AM MST Mon Nov 18 2019 The upper ridge will be shifting eastward on Tue as an upper low moves over northern CA and an upper low off the Baja CA coast moves closer to the peninsula. The weather still looks dry on Tue, along with above average temps. Tue night, the system off the coast of Baja CA is expected to become an open wave and move over AZ. At the same time, the low over CA is forecast to drop south into southern CA. Ahead of this system, it looks like some snow could move into the Eastern San Juan and La Garita Mtns by 12Z Wed. The weakening upper disturbance over AZ, then moves over CO Wed afternoon, while the upper low from srn CA moves over the srn tip of NV by Wed evening, an a sfc cold front moves thru eastern CO early in the afternoon. All this, leads to precip spreading across all of southeast and south central CO on Wed, with the mtns and high valleys seeing the highest chances for precip. Wed night the upper low center is forecast to move over the border area of UT, AZ and NV, with southwest flow aloft ahead of this system pushing more moisture into southern CO, with snow continuing over the mtns and high valleys, but the southwest and central mtns likely seeing the best accumulations. On Thu there is some uncertainty as to how fast the upper low will move toward CO. The GFS has it in eastern UT by 00Z fri, with the EC keeps it over southwest UT at that time. Either way, snow continues over the mtns and temps will be below average. Snow accumulations from Tue night through Thu will probably be 15-20 inches or more over the southwest mtns and would anticipate that later shifts will be issuing winter weather highlights for the Continental Divide. Thu night the system is expected to move over CO and weaken, but the GFS continues to be faster moving this system across and then out of the area than the EC, and as a result, by 12Z Fri the GFS has little precip remaining over the area, while the EC still has widespread precip. Thru the day Fri, the EC continues to show an upper low center that moves over KS, with generally light wrap-around precip over CO, while the GFS open wave is well to the east of CO and dry weather is forecast for southern CO. So, at this time the forecast confidence is low for Thu night and Fri.
