Currently...satellite imagery reveals mostly clear skies across much of Colorado early this morning. This has allowed temperatures to cool into the mid 30s to lower 40s across the region. Winds are generally light out of the west. Today...flow aloft will transition westerly ahead of the next upper disturbance. This will lead to afternoon mixing, with warm afternoon highs, and critical fire weather conditions across the area. Afternoon high temperatures will reach the upper 60s to lower 70s over the lower elevations. Southwesterly winds will increase through the afternoon with drying in the lower levels. The combination of winds and low humidity values will lead to critical fire weather conditions. Locations over the San Luis Valley, Central Mountains, Eastern Mountains, into the southern I-25 corridor, along with Teller and El Paso Counties will see the most critical conditions. Those with outdoor burning activities planned should postpone them until another day. Tonight...there are a couple of things to monitor for the overnight period. One is the potential for breezy conditions in the lee of the Rampart Range and southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains. While the atmospheric profile does not support downslope winds, a few gusts in excess of 50 mph may be possible. This will play a role in temperatures, with warm overnight lows along the lee slopes, upper 40s to lower 50s, while the Plains fall into the mid to upper 30s. The next upper level disturbance will move across Wyoming with a trough axis south into Colorado. Expect cooler air to move into the mountains overnight, with snow developing during the evening, and persisting into Sunday morning. The heaviest snow will fall from the La Garita Mountains, north into the Central Mountains. The highest snowfall totals are expected north of Cottonwood Pass, where 1 to 4 inches will be possible by Sunday morning. Strong winds over the mountains will lead to areas of blowing snow, especially for areas north of Cottonwood Pass. Hazardous travel conditions are possible over Monarch Pass, and north to near Leadville. Increasing moisture and orographics ahead of the system will bring a quick shot of snow and blowing snow to the ContDvd early Sunday morning, with strong northwest flow behind the system keeping scattered snow showers across the central mountains through Sunday afternoon and evening. Snow accumulations of 3 to 8 inches will be possible across the ContDvd, with the highest amounts expected across the Sawatch Range north of the Cottonwood Pass. The snow combined with the strong and gusting west to northwest winds of 30 to 60 mph will bring hazardous travel conditions across the higher terrain of the central mts through Sunday morning, and will keep current winter weather advisory in place through noon. Further east, gusty west to northwest winds of 30 to 60 mph behind the passing bora front moving across south central and southeast Colorado Sunday morning will lead to another high fire danger day, especially across the eastern plains, as dry and subsident air mixes down across the area, despite the cooling behind the system. With some questions on timing of the drier air moving across the area through the day tomorrow, will hold off on upgrading current fire weather watch across most of south central and southeast Colorado, and let the next shift get a look at the newest model data. Either way, fire danger will be high on Sunday with any outdoor burning being discouraged. Monday-Tuesday...Strong northwest flow aloft across the region on Monday moderates through the day Tuesday. This will keep cool and breezy conditions in place through Monday, with possible snow showers across the higher terrain, especially the central mts. Dry and warmer weather remains on tap for Tuesday. The central mountains, San Luis Valley, eastern mountains, Fremont County and the Interstate 25 corridor counties, will see the most dangerous conditions with winds gusting in excess of 25 mph. Snow will move into the Continental Divide tonight. Locations from the La Garita Mountains, north into the Sawatch and Mosquito Ranges will see the greatest snowfall threat. Locations north of Cottonwood Pass could see 2 to 4 inches by Sunday morning, with lower amounts south. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday Hazardous travel conditions in snow and blowing snow will continue across the central mountains Sunday morning, before snow tapers off through the early afternoon. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 8 inches will be possible, with the greatest amounts expected across the higher peaks north of Cottonwood Pass. Dangerous fire weather conditions are expected across much of south central and southeast Colorado on Sunday, as gusty west to northwest winds of 30 to 60 mph, strongest over the higher terrain, develop behind a passing weather system. These strong winds, combined with low humidities and dry fuels, will create critical fire weather conditions through the day, with any outdoor burning activities highly discouraged. Scattered snow showers will remain possible across the higher terrain of the central mountains on Monday, with more widespread snow showers possible over and near the higher terrain later Wednesday and Thursday. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...
