.SYNOPSIS...
A weak backdoor front will continue to drift southward across the
area early this morning, eventually stalling over portions of
Delmarva. This front will be pulled northward as a warm front
Thursday as an area of low pressure begins to move toward the
Great Lakes region. Unsettled weather returns late Friday into
the weekend as several waves of low pressure move northeastward
along a strong cold front. Drier weather returns next week as
high pressure builds into the region.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
A few sprinkles or light showers can still occur this morning
across SE PA, the nrn Delmarva, and southern NJ. This is in
response to weak advection/frontogenesis. The weather grids
were adjusted to just focus on these areas. Outside of these
very light showers, a fair amount of clouds will hang around
today. When combining the clouds and the onshore flow,
temperatures will be a bit cooler than yesterday, more so along
the immediate coast.

Previous discussion...
A weak surface front will continue to settle to our south early
this morning, with a northeasterly surface wind in its wake.
Surface high pressure is forecast to slide across New England
today as a ridge aloft approaches from the west, and this will
allow for the surface winds to become east to southeast by late
today.

As the above takes place today, the flow above the surface is
forecast to back and become more southerly toward evening and this
will start a more notable increase in the low-level warm air
advection. Speaking of warm air advection, a zone of this is ongoing
early this morning and there is a decent but narrow ribbon of 925-
850 mb frontogenesis south of a short wave which resulted in some
light rain that is now just a few showers across parts of the
northern and western zones. This activity is forecast to dissipate
by daybreak as the overall forcing weakens, however some sprinkles
or a brief light shower will occur all the way into at least the I-
95 corridor. Given the flow aloft, we are anticipating a decent
amount of cloud cover across the region today. This coupled with the
onshore flow will keep it on the cooler side, with this most notable
along the coast where there will be more of a breeze. As the low-
level warm air advection increases later today, there is a chance
for a few light showers to glance our far western zones. The lift
looks weak and therefore kept PoPs under chance range. High
temperatures are mostly a model consenus and continuity blend.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 AM THURSDAY/...
Surface high pressure will be situated off the New England coast
tonight resulting in a southeasterly low-level flow across our area.
The flow above this will be more south and southwest and it is
forecast to strengthen some overnight. While the axis of the ridge
aloft slides across our area overnight, a short wave is forecast to
lift northeastward. This feature looks to be tied to the more
notable increase in low-level warm air advection along with an axis
of higher 850 mb theta-e air advecting across our region.

The above will help assist in moistening up the lower levels and
this should result in low cloud development toward daybreak. The
presence of the low-level warm air and theta-e advections along with
the short wave may result in some showers especially across parts of
eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey overnight. The lift
however may be weak enough to result in some drizzle developing
especially in the more upslope areas of eastern Pennsylvania and
northern New Jersey. For now, held onto some low PoPs for possible
showers however held off on mentioning drizzle due to the low cloud
development not expected until closer to daybreak.

Due to the expectation of the cloud cover and warm air advection,
temperatures may tend to level off overnight or even rise a little
toward daybreak especially across the southern areas. Low
temperatures are a model/continuity blend.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Summary...a warm front will lift across the area Thursday as a ridge
builds into the area. A deeper upper level trough will begin to move
into the eastern U.S. This trough will elongate, causing several
waves of low pressure to form along the initial cold front, leading
to a period of unsettled weather late Friday through the weekend,
though some breaks are expected during this timeframe.

As low pressure slides out of the Plains into the Great Lakes
Region, a warm front will begin to translate northward across the
Mid-Atlantic. Weak cold air damming looks possible given the
placement of high pressure to our northeast and associated east-
northeasterly flow. Thus, a somewhat notable temperature
gradient may take shape along this front, making high
temperatures Thursday strongly dependent on the speed of this
front during the day. Highs should range from the low to mid 70s
across Delmarva through Philly, to mid 60s and even upper 50s
across the Lehigh Valley and Poconos. Some scattered showers are
also possible as the front works its way northward.

Active weather begins to take shape Friday as the aforementioned mid-
level trough strings out across the mid-Mississippi Valley. The
parent surface low looks to slide out of the Great Lakes into
Southeastern Canada, trailing a cold front toward the Northeast.
Another wave of low pressure looks to develop along the front
somewhere over the Ohio Valley Friday, translating northeastward
along the front. By Friday evening, another stronger surface low
pressure center should develop across the southern Appalachians, and
begin shifting northeast toward our area. This looks to pull
relatively deep moisture across the area, thus leading to
potentially heavy rainfall. PWAT values from 1-2 inches is
forecast as well. The NAM suggests some instability could creep
into the region, especially over portions of Delmarva, thus
thunderstorms are also possible. The severe potential exists,
but will ultimately depend on the amount of instability that
develops. Shear looks a little more certain however, given the
structure of the system and 850 mb southerly flow ahead of the
parent trough. Deep vertical mixing should develop as WAA takes
shape across the area, thus it will likely be windy Friday with
gusts of 30-40 mph possible. Mild Friday as the warm front
clears the area, thus widespread 70s are likely every where,
with the exception of the southern Poconos, where upper 60s will
be found.

Scattered showers are likely through the weekend as the main surface
low slowly works its way northeastward across the region. Some
breaks in the rain will occur, thus it does not look to be a
complete washout. Highs in near 70 Saturday and the mid 60s Sunday.

Weak high pressure builds into the area Monday, leading to a
seasonable and dry day. A weak cold front tries to slide southward
out of the Great Lakes into Monday night, thus scattered
showers are possible Monday night into Tuesday. Highs look to
sit in the low 70s across the area both Monday and Tuesday, with
upper 60s across the higher terrain to the north.

.AVIATION /13Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Today...VFR ceilings between about 5000-8000 feet. A few light
showers around ABE, RDG, PHL/PNE and TTN end early. Northeast winds
5-10 knots, becoming east then southeast.

Tonight...VFR ceilings, however MVFR ceilings should develop after
about 08z. East or southeast winds 10 knots or less.

Outlook...
Thursday and Thursday night...Areas of MVFR/IFR improve to VFR
during the day, however some showers still possible. Low confidence.

Friday and Friday night...Showers and some thunderstorms especially
afternoon and evening with MVFR/IFR conditions. Southerly winds 10-
20 knots, with locally higher gusts of 35 to 40 knots possible in
thunderstorms.

Saturday...Areas of MVFR especially in the morning. Some showers may
linger, especially across the western portions of the area.
Southerly winds 10-20 knots.

Saturday Night...VFR to MVFR conditions with intermittent cloudiness
and showers possible. Southwesterly winds 5 to 10 knots.

Sunday and Sunday night...VFR with areas of MVFR possible with
scattered showers. Southwesterly to westerly winds 5 to 10 knots.

.MARINE...
The conditions are expected to remain below Small Craft Advisory
criteria today and tonight. A northeasterly increase this morning
will take place southward as a weak front continues to settle to our
south early on. The surface winds however will then turn from the
east and southeast this afternoon and tonight with some
increase.

Outlook...
Thursday...Winds may increase to Small Craft Advisory criteria
Thursday night with gusts up to 25 knots possible. Building seas up
to 5 to 7 feet through the night.

Friday...Small Craft Advisory conditions probable as seas build well
above 5 feet and winds gust to 30 to 35 knots. Southerly gale force
gusts are possible Friday, although this will be within a warm air
advection regime. Despite the winds, areas of marine fog may still
develop for a time as warm moist air moves over the cooler waters.

Saturday...Small Craft Advisory conditions probable with gusts of up
to 25 knots. Seas above 10 feet possible.

Saturday Night and Sunday...Sub Small Craft Advisory conditions
expected, though seas may remain above 5 feet in the morning Sunday.
