.SYNOPSIS...
A very hot and humid air mass will continue to influence our
weather for today. Low pressure is expected to develop in the
Ohio River Valley tonight before drifting eastward across
northeastern Maryland, eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and New
Jersey on Monday afternoon and Monday evening. As the low
continues toward Nova Scotia on Tuesday it is anticipated to
pull a cold front slowly through our region. High pressure is
forecast to build in from the west on Wednesday and Thursday.
The center of the high is expected to slide off the coast on
Thursday night but it should continue influencing our region on
Friday and Saturday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
9:30 AM update: No significant changes to the forecast through
today. Several locations have already reached the 90 degree
mark, and temperatures are mostly a degree or two higher than
they were at this time yesterday. Having said that, it remains
to be seen if this will result in significantly higher max
temperatures today (as compared to yesterday) as dew points are
also slightly higher than what we were seeing yesterday.
Regardless, the net result is still dangerously hot and humid
conditions across the region. Even at 9:15 AM, several
locations, including RDG, PNE, ILG, MIV, and ACY, already had
heat index values at or above 100 degrees.
previous discussion...The ongoing heat wave will continue today
with rather extreme heat indicies area wide. Air temperatures
are forecast to be well into the mid to upper 90s outside of the
highest terrain and away from the immediate coast with
dewpoints in the mid to upper 70s. With more of a westerly
component to the wind today, temps may be a degree or 2 higher
than yesterday's values in some areas, but didn't want to split
hairs so left high temps largely unchanged. Resulting heat index
values are forecast to range from around 110 across most of
central and southern NJ, SE PA, and Delmarva away from the
immediate coast. Across the Lehigh Valley, NW NJ, and immediate
coastal areas, widespread values of 105-110 can be expected.
Values from 95-100 are expected across the southern Poconos.
Otherwise, it should be a mostly sunny but hazy day through the
early afternoon with westerly winds 5-10 mph.
A disturbance passing north of the area tonight will lead to
some scattered showers or thunderstorms from late evening to
overnight. Cannot rule out an isolated strong to severe storm
with this activity as instability will remain high even into the
overnight hours.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 AM MONDAY/...
Any convection lasting into the evening and early overnight
hours is forecast to quickly dissipate in strength and coverage
after sunset. A few lingering showers may be possible through
the overnight though. Otherwise, another warm and humid night in
store, although probably a few degrees cooler than this
morning. Winds will be light and variable, but favoring a
northerly direction. Heading towards daybreak, showers and
possibly a few thunderstorms are forecast to move toward the
area from the south and west. Details on this activity will be
covered in the long term discussion.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
The transition from our current period of very hot humid
weather to one of lower temperature and humidity levels does not
appear as though it will be uneventful.
An unseasonably well defined area of low pressure is forecast
to make its way from the Ohio River Valley tonight to our region
on Monday. It is anticipated to bring periods of showers and
scattered thunderstorms to our region for Monday into Monday
night. The consensus of the models suggest that 1 to 2 inch
rainfall totals will be common with local amounts of 3 to 4
inches possible. The values seems reasonable in light of the
slow movement of the system and the existence of abundant
moisture (precipitable water values in the 2 to 2 1/4 inch
range).
In light of recent conditions, we have issued a Flash Flood
Watch for our entire forecast area with exception of the three
southernmost New Jersey counties, and our Delmarva counties that
lie entirely south of the C&D Canal. The watch runs from 10:00
AM Monday until 6:00 AM Tuesday.
Also, there is a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms on
Monday as cooler air begins to arrive in our region from the
northwest. There should be a very marked temperature gradient
across our region on Monday. Highs are expected to be in the
middle and upper 70s in the Poconos while readings are
anticipated to reach the middle 90s in southern Delaware.
The area of low pressure is anticipated to move away to our
northeast on Tuesday. It should pull a cold front slowly through
our region at that time. Showers and scattered thunderstorms
will linger into Tuesday in our region, although rainfall rates
will be on the decrease. Light showers could persist into
Tuesday night from the Interstate 95 Corridor southeastward.
High pressure from the west is expected to build across our
region in the Wednesday through Saturday time frame. The air
mass is forecast to bring us a well deserved break from the
excessive heat and humidity, as well as from the potential for
any heavy rain and severe weather.

.AVIATION /14Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Today...VFR is expected to prevail for most of the day.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop later in the
afternoon and into the evening hours, possibly leading to sub-
VFR conditions in and around convection. Westerly winds around
5-10 kts with gusts up to around 15 kts developing by late
afternoon.
Tonight...scattered to isolated showers and thunderstorms may
linger into the evening hours, but are forecast to dissipate
quickly after sunset. Cannot rule out a rogue shower during the
overnight hours. Winds light and variable, but favoring a
northerly direction.
OUTLOOK...
Monday and Monday night...MVFR and IFR conditions in showers
and thunderstorms. The rain will be heavy at times. Variable
wind 10 knots or less.
Tuesday...MVFR and IFR conditions in morning showers and
scattered thunderstorms. Mainly VFR in the afternoon with a
chance of showers. Northwest wind around 10 knots.
Tuesday night...Mainly VFR. Northwest wind 5 to 10 knots.
Wednesday...Mainly VFR. Northwest wind around 10 knots.
Wednesday night and Thursday...Mainly VFR. Variable wind 10
knots or less.

Winds are forecast to remain south to southwesterly around
10-15 kts with gusts possibly up to 20 kts through tonight.
Seas 2-3 ft over the ocean and 2 ft or less over Delaware Bay.
OUTLOOK...

RIP CURRENTS...
Wind will be southwesterly around 10-15 knots today, while seas
will remain 2-3 feet with a swell period of around 6 seconds.
This will keep a low risk of rip currents.
An increasing southerly wind fetch and building waves may
create a moderate risk for the development of dangerous rip
currents on Monday along parts of the New Jersey and Delaware
coastlines.
