.SYNOPSIS...
A low pressure system will move northeast across the region
today and then onward to the Canadian Maritimes tonight into
Wednesday. An arctic cold front will move across the region late
Wednesday. High pressure will then move in and dominate through
the weekend into early next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
We have issued a Dense Fog Advisory for portions of southern New
Jersey, Delaware, and eastern Maryland through 4 pm this
afternoon. Areas of fog, dense at times, has developed near the
frontal boundary that is drapped across these areas today and
will remain across the area until the front pushes eastward
later this afternoon into this evening.

We have also extended the Winter Weather Advisory through 4 pm
for the southern tier of the advisory. Although several
ASOS/AWOS locations have risen above freezing, there are many
mesonet sites that remain near or just below freezing, so there
could continue to be some areas of light freezing rain or
freezing drizzle for a few more hours. The remainder of the
advisory and warning remain the same farther north.

A frontal boundary remains across far southern New Jersey into
southern Delaware and Maryland early this afternoon, while a
couple of low pressure centers remain along the boundary as
well. This boundary will try to slowly slide northward through
today as these low pressure systems move along the boundary as
well. By this afternoon, the second of the low pressure systems
will move across the area along the frontal boundary, finally
pulling the front across the area later this afternoon. Before
this happens, periods of rain and freezing rain will continue
across the area as several short wave/vorticity impulses will
move across the area within the southwest flow aloft. For those
areas basically along the I-95 corridor south and eastward,
surface temperatures are above freezing and all precipitation is
expected to remain liquid rain for the rest of the day.
However, for areas farther north, the air just above the surface
is above freezing while many locations remains near or just
below freezing at the surface. So areas of freezing rain or
drizzle will continue into the afternoon. Some sleet may also
mix in at times.

As the low moves past the area to our northeast and the front
moves across the area later this afternoon, precipitation should
begin to dissipate from west to east. Some precipitation may
even mix with a brief period of snow by this evening, although
little to no accumulation is expected.

&&

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
Low pressure pulls out to sea this evening bringing a quick end
to any lingering precip. A strong cold front will follow and
there could be some wind gusts of 20-25 mph in its
wake...normally not high impact winds but this could exacerbate
tree damage and power outages for areas that received
significant icing. Lows by Wednesday morning will be mainly in
the 20s.

On Wednesday, an arctic cold front will move across the Mid
Atlantic and northeast states late day as a low pressure moves
out of southern Canada and and across New England, strengthening
as it does so. As this cold front move across the area, there
are indications that snow squall could develop to our northwest
and continue across our area during the afternoon. The main
areas for the snow squall threat will be portions of northeast
Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey mainly near and north of
the I-80 corridor. This is where the combination of steepest
low- mid level lapse rates, greatest low- mid level moisture,
coincide just on the southern edge of the trough aloft and
channelized vorticity within the trough base. Farther south into
central New jersey and portions of southeastern Pennsylvania,
some show showers or flurries will be possible, but they are not
expected to be as heavy as farther north. There is the
potential for a brief period of heavy snowfall with low
visibilities and strong gusty winds in areas that get squalls.

The other concern that comes on Wednesday afternoon into
Wednesday night is developing strong, gusty winds and cold
temperatures. Once the arctic cold front moves across the area,
the low associated with it will strengthen as it moves across
New England Wednesday night. Meanwhile, high pressure will build
to our west across the Ohio Valley into Wednesday night. This
will lead to a very tight pressure gradient across the area, and
with strong cold air advection, very good mixing will occur
later Wednesday into Wednesday night. This mixing will allow for
strong winds aloft to mix down to the surface. Wind gusts of at
least 30-40 mph are expected, although even higher winds could
be possible across higher elevations. This could be even more
concerning for those areas where icing occurs today and does
not melt before Wednesday. Also, it will become very cold
Wednesday night, especially across the Poconos. Most places will
have wind chills in the single digits, except portions of
northeast Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey where sub-zero
wind chills could occur, especially the Poconos where wind
chills could reach -10 to -15 degrees.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Dry and quiet conditions are expected for the long term period
with no real changes made to the forecast with this latest
update. High pressure continues to build toward the are
Thursday, although it will not make its way into the area until
Thursday night. So there could still be some gusty winds into
the day Thursday.

The high pressure builds across New England by Friday, then
builds offshore by Saturday, then possibly reestablishing itself
by Sunday into Monday. Dry conditions are expected through the
period, although cloudy conditions could be in place at times
through the weekend.

.AVIATION /17Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

This morning...IFR/LIFR conditions expected, with precipitation
becoming spottier/more showery and generally remaining all
liquid. Exception may be ABE, where temperatures are hovering
near freezing and some icing may occur on elevated surfaces.
Northeast winds around 5-10 kt. LLWS expected at the Philly
terminals and ACY/MIV. Moderate confidence.

This afternoon...A front will move through between 19z and 23z,
with winds becoming northwest and quick improvement to MVFR/VFR
conditions in the following 2-4 hours. Any remaining
precipitation is expected to end before frontal passage. Speeds
may increase to 10 to 20 kt after frontal passage. Low
confidence, especially with CIGs.

Tonight...VFR with northwest winds 5 to 15 kt with possibly
higher gusts, especially at ACY. High confidence.

Outlook...

Wednesday...Mostly VFR conditions are expected. However, there
is a chance for snow showers, even snow squalls, for portions of
the region, including KTTN, KABE, and KRDG. If any of these snow
showers move over those terminals, brief reductions to IFR
conditions are possible. West winds of 15 to 20 kt, with gusts
as high as 35 kt. Moderate confidence on most aspects of the
forecast, but low confidence that any snow squalls will affect a
TAF site.

Wednesday night and Thursday...VFR conditions expected.
Northwesterly winds of 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt,
gradually diminishing through the day Thursday. High confidence.

Thursday night through Saturday...VFR conditions expected.
Winds will be mostly below 10 knots. High confidence.

Southwesterly winds and seas will build through the morning,
with Small Craft advisory conditions expected on the coastal
waters by late this morning. An abrupt shift to northwesterly
winds is expected this afternoon into early this evening. With
the wind shift, expect wind gusts near 30 kt on all the waters.
SCA conditions will continue through the day on Wednesday.
