.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure developing off the Carolina coast will lift to the
northeast tonight and will meander over the western Atlantic
through the end of the week. A cold front will pass through the
region this weekend, pushing the storm out to sea. High pressure
builds in from the west early next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM WEDNESDAY MORNING/...
Low pressure will continue to lift northeastward along a
frontal boundary from the Carolina coast into the Mid-Atlantic
waters. Meanwhile, a mid-level trough will cross the Ohio Valley
and move into the Mid-Atlantic tonight. There area few
shortwaves embedded int he mid level flow that will rotate
through the region in advance of the approaching trough, and
this will keep us cloudy and with increased precipitation
chances.
With a tight pressure gradient remaining across the eastern US,
we will continue to see breezy conditions with northeast winds
around 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts at times.
Overnight lws will range from the 40s across the northern areas to
around 60 along the immediate coast.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM WEDNESDAY MORNING THROUGH 6 PM WEDNESDAY/...
The mid-level trough starts to cut off by early Wednesday.
There will continue to be shortwaves that rotate around the base
of the closed low and through our area during the day. THe
offshore low stalls and and makes little progress away from the
region on Wednesday. With these systems over and near the
region, we will continue to have a persistent northeast flow,
which looks to strengthen some during the day, especially along
the coast. So expect gusty winds with gusts around 30 mph to
occur at times.
While the models have come together some over the past couple
of runs, they still struggle with the amount (and location) of
precipitation across our region on Wednesday. There is likely to
be a period of steady rain that moves across the region through
the day, with the most likely areas east of the I-95 corridor.
Even the NAM has come more in line with the ECMWF and the GFS,
although it targets slightly different areas with the heaviest
rainfall amounts. Not expecting blockbuster amounts of rain but
some areas may see up around a half of an inch of rain (or
slightly more) which is much needed across the region.
Temperatures during the day will be on the cool side as we see
extensive cloud cover across the region. Highs will generally be
in the mid 50s to lower 60s across the region.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Low pressure will meander just south of the 40/70 benchmark
Wednesday night through Friday night, occasionally drifting a
bit back closer to the coast, but not much. Several waves of
precip will rotate around the low and will spread towards the
New Jersey coast. Highest PoPs will be along the immediate
coastline, but will generally carry chance PoPs into much of the
region. Gusty northeast winds will persist along the shore,
generally ranging from 15-20 mph with 25-30 mph gusts. Models
are trending generally low with QPF, but there could be 1/4" or
so across northeast New Jersey Thursday.
Low pressure tracking across Canada will drag a cold front
through the nation towards the end of the week, and will cross
the region this weekend. Precip seems to dry out as it crosses,
but the front should be through the region sometime Saturday
night through Sunday morning. This front finally pushes the
storm out to sea, and high pressure builds in from the west for
the start of the new week.
Sunny and dry weather finally builds back into the region for
the start of the new work week, and temperatures warm back up a
bit.

.AVIATION /20Z TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Tonight...Mainly VFR conditions expected. MVFR ceilings may
develop overnight at KACY and KMIV late tonight. Additionally,
scattered showers are possible overnight into early Wednesday,
with higher confidence towards the coast. Northeast winds around
5 to 15 knots this evening with gusts around 15 to 25 knots
through the night. Gusts may drop off for a period of time
before starting to pick up again late tonight. Moderate
confidence.
Wednesday...MVFR ceilings will spread westward through the
early morning, although VFR may continue at KABE and KRDG
through at least mid-day. Scattered showers will continue on
Wednesday, which may cause restrictions to occur. Northeast
winds will continue with speeds around 10 to 20 knots with gusts
around 20 to 30 knots at times. Highest gusts are expected near
the coast. Moderate confidence.
Outlook...
Wednesday night through Friday night...Occasional MVFR or even
IFR conditions in low CIGs and rain. NE winds 15-20 kt with
20-30 kt gusts, strongest winds at KMIV/KABE, and lighter winds
at KRDG/KABE. Wind diminish Friday night.
Saturday through Sunday...Showers possible with passage of cold
front. Occasional restrictions possible. North winds 10 kt or
less, becoming NW on Sunday.

.MARINE...
Tonight...A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect across all
waters tonight with winds gusting around 25 to 30 knots. Model
soundings show winds picking up late tonight and some gusts may
near gale force, but confidence is lower that this will occur
overnight so will not issue a Gale Warning for tonight. Seas
will continue to build to 8 to 10 feet through tonight.
Wednesday...A Gale Warning is now in effect for Wednesday for the
Lower Delaware Bay and the ocean waters. A Small Craft Advisory
remains in effect for the Upper Delaware Bay. There is growing
confidence that winds will increase through the morning and reach
gale force, especially across our southern waters, by mid day. Winds
are expected to be stronger on Wednesday than they were today and
since we flirted with gale force gusts across lower Delaware Bay and
the southern coastal waters there is increased confidence that gales
will occur across our waters. There may be periods of lighter gusts,
especially across Delaware Bay, but feel a Gale Warning is most
appropriate for the conditions we expect much of the day, especially
closer to the mouth of the bay. Seas will build to 10 to 12
feet.
Outlook...
Wednesday night through Friday night...Gale force winds of
20-30 kt with 35-40 kt gusts will persist on the ocean and lower
DE Bay during this time. Seas on the ocean will build to 10-13
ft. SCA conditions will persist on upper DE Bay.
Saturday through Sunday...SCA conditions will persist on the
ocean during this time. A cold front passes across the waters on
Sunday.
Periods of rain/showers are expected through the period as
well, with visibility restrictions at times.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
A prolonged northeast surface flow will continue across the
area as an ocean storm intensifies off the Carolina coast and
drifts slowly northeastward through this weekend. With the
combination of this lengthy duration of strong onshore flow,
building seas, and increasing proximity to the full moon on 13
October (i.e., high astronomical tides), expecting several
cycles of at least minor coastal flooding to occur through this
weekend on the Atlantic coast and on Delaware Bay. This will
begin with Wednesday evening's high tide and a Coastal Flood
Advisory is now in effect for this tide cycle along our Atlantic
coastal zones from Ocean County, NJ southward as well as along
the Delaware Bay north through Cumberland County, NJ and Kent
County, Delaware. By Thursday evening, some tidal gauges on the
southern New Jersey and Delaware coast may approach or exceed
moderate flooding.
