Weather Watch has been upgraded to a Red Flag Warning on Wednesday
due to the high confidence in the forecast for fire weather.

VFR conditions will be prevalent throughout the forecast period,
however winds will be the primary concern. Due to a strong surface
cyclone, winds will increase throughout the evening and overnight.
This coencides with high winds above the surface which will
result in a concern for low-level wind shear between 6z and 12z.
Ceilings and visibilities are expected to remain at VFR levels.

AVIATION...
Winds will increase fairly quickly this morning as the surface
pressure gradient begins to tighten. This will be the first hint
of what will become a very strong surface cyclone tomorrow.
Because the storm system will continue to intensify overnight,
the usual diurnal lessening of wind speeds will be minimized, and
at some sites the wind speeds will actually increase overnight. In
addition, very strong winds are expected to develop above the
surface late tonight and early Wednesday, resulting in substantial
low-level wind shear. Ceilings and visibilities should be
generally unrestricted, except near controlled burns where smoke
may affect visibilities locally.

DISCUSSION...
Today and Wednesday will be quite warm by April standards, but
then a major storm system will bring much cooler air into the
region for the rest of the week.

A very strong surface low is forecast to develop over Kansas by
Wednesday afternoon, as a similarly strong mid/upper-level
shortwave trough swings east out of the southern Rockies. The
surface flow around the developing cyclone will bring strong south
winds to Oklahoma and north Texas, resulting in an even warmer day
than today for most of our forecast area.

Temperatures around the 850 mb level will be very warm tomorrow,
and will probably be too warm to allow convection to form, so
rain/storm chances are very low tomorrow.

The strong winds circulating around the surface low will bring
downslope dry/warm air into western Oklahoma and western north
Texas. We already have a Fire Weather Watch in effect, and that
has been maintained as is for this forecast.

A High Wind Watch is also in effect already for far western
Oklahoma and adjacent parts of Texas. We are extending this watch
for Harper and Ellis Counties into midday on Thursday, since it
appears that High Wind-level winds will continue even behind the
cold front in that area.

The cold front that will sweep rapidly through Oklahoma and north
Texas Wednesday night will bring an abrupt drop in temperatures.
The strong winds accompanying the advancing cold air will make
the "felt" temperature drop even faster.

Another mid/upper-level system will move east from New Mexico by
Saturday, bringing a surge of low-level moisture to the southern
Plains. This will result in rain across most of Oklahoma and north
Texas Saturday and/or Saturday night. In the far north, some snow
or other wintry precipitation may occur. At this time, no
accumulation of snow or ice is expected, but can't be ruled out.

Southwesterly to westerly wind gusts over 50 mph are expected
Wednesday afternoon and evening across western Oklahoma and
adjacent parts of north Texas. Northwesterly wind gusts at 40 to
50 mph are expected Thursday, primarily across far northwest
Oklahoma.

.Frost and Freeze...
A freeze is possible across northwest Oklahoma Friday and Sunday
mornings. A frost is possible across the northern half of Oklahoma
Friday morning and western Oklahoma on Sunday morning.
