...WINTER STORM WARNING WILL EXPIRE AT 4 AM PST EARLY THIS
MORNING...

The cold front is moving across the Cascades early this morning.
There will be a chance for additional rain and snow, but
additional accumulations should light. The exception is it is 
still snowing in the Methow valley. Satellite imagery shows the 
back edge of the precipitaiton will move through Winthrop by 4:30 
AM and bring a quick end to the snow.

.SYNOPSIS...
Our next chance for widespread precipitation will arrive on
Thursday. Portions of central and eastern Washington may
experience icy roads Thursday morning with a mix of freezing rain
and light snow. Friday will be mild and breezy with snow in the
mountains. Unsettled weather will persist into the weekend with
chances for rain and snow.

.DISCUSSION...

We are working on the details for Thursday's forecast. The early
morning arrival of a mix of precipitation types will make it a
forecast to monitor closely. At this time, the NAM and GFS are in
good agreement that light precipitation will emerge east of the
Cascades between 4am and 7am. Both models produce a band of
rain/freezing rain along and north of Interstate 90 which could
have ramifications on the morning commute for Wenatchee, Moses
Lake, Grand Coulee, and possibly Spokane. At this time, it looks
like temperatures will be in the low 30s and rising Thursday
morning in Spokane, Davenport and Moses Lake. A light glazing in
the morning is expected to give way to rain (and wet roads) by
mid to late morning. Sub-freezing temperatures may be slow to rise
around Wenatchee, Leavenworth, Chelan and the Methow Valley where
the rugged terrain of the Cascades shelters the valleys from
southerly winds. At this time, it looks like Plain, Leavenworth,
and possibly Lake Chelan could receive a tenth of an inch or more
of freezing rain. We may also see another swath up to a tenth of
an inch around Waterville, Coulee City and Wilbur before
temperatures rise late in the morning into the afternoon.

In addition to the ice potential, the mountains of the north
Cascades will receive a foot or two of snow tonight into Friday
with the heaviest accumulations north of Stevens Pass on Hwy 2.
Elevations above 3500 feet around Chewelah, Sandpoint, and
Bonners Ferry will also experience periods of light to moderate
snow Thu and Friday with localized amounts of a foot or more. The
lowlands around Priest Lake, Sandpoint, and Bonners Ferry will
have a good shot of 1 to 3 inches Thursday morning before snow
transitions to rain in the afternoon. /GKoch

.AVIATION...
18Z TAFs: A slow moving frontal system bringing precipitation to
the coast of British Columbia will accelerate toward Washington
and north Idaho early Thursday morning bringing a wintry mix of
precipitation to the Inland Northwest. Lewiston and Pullman should
remain above freezing tonight, so we are looking for rain at
these airports in SE WA and the southern ID Panhandle. Wenatchee
and Moses Lake look to have the best shot of several hours of
light freezing rain Thursday morning, but total amounts should be
less than a tenth of an inch. For Spokane and Coeur d'Alene, the
arrival of precipitation will occur as temps are warming. A couple
hours of light freezing rain will be possible in the 12-15z time
frame for a light glaze, but it looks like temps will be above
freezing by the time the heavier precipitation arrives late Thu

Moderate to heavy snow will be possible in the mountains with a
snow freezing rain mix in the valleys tonight. This combination
will result in slick driving conditions.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY

Moderate snow in the mountains and a wintry mix of precipitation
in the valleys tonight into Thursday will produce treacherous
driving conditions across the east slopes of the Cascades on
Thursday. over portions of central and eastern Washington. Snow
and ice accumulations may occur around Wenatchee, Leavenworth,
Winton, Plain, Twisp, and Winthrop.
