Blowing and drifting snow combined with bitterly cold north winds
will make Saturday a potentially dangerous day to travel across
central Washington. Snow accumulations of eight inches or more
from Chelan to Wenatchee to Vantage will be possible. North winds
gusting between 40 and 50 mph in the Columbia Basin will have the
potential to make roads impassable due to drifting snow. Winds
are expected to subside by Sunday with cold temperatures lingering
into next week.

.DISCUSSION...
Winter Weather Advisories for the Sandpoint, Coeur d'Alene,
Spokane, Davenport, Wilbur, and Ritzville areas have been upgraded
to Winter Storm Warnings. Snow reports this evening of 3 to 6
inches have been common across Spokane, Kootenai, and Bonner
counties. With an additional inch or two of snow expected tonight,
we are concerned with the impacts of blowing and drifting on
Saturday. Spots that are especially prone to drifting snow are the
Rathdrum Prairie to Post Falls where northeast winds channel down
the Highway 95 corridor in north Idaho. The open country of the
West Plains from Spokane to Coulee City and the I-90 corridor from
Spokane to Ritzville to Moses Lake will likely experience
sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts in the 40 to 50 mph
range. Drifting snow and reduced visibility will make travel
dangerous from central Washington to Spokane to Sandpoint.
Some of the worst conditions on Saturday still look to be over
the Waterville Plateau and Moses Lake area where accumulations of
6 to 12 inches will be common. Amounts will be very difficult to
measure with north/northeast winds gusting to 40 to 50 mph. Snow
drifts will likely make some roads impassable in this portion of

06z TAFs: A band of moderate to heavy snow will continue across
most of the TAF sites overnight. Snow will increase in intensity
from KEAT to KMWH with MVFR conditions and local IFR which will
continue into Saturday morning, then gusty northerly winds develop
and lead to blowing and drifting of snow with reduced visibilities.
Snow has increased temporarily in the KGEG- KCOE corridor with
MVFR to IFR conditions, although northerly winds will be on the
increase after 12z and allow the snow to ease, although reduced
visibilities due to blowing snow will be an issue into the
afternoon. KPUW to KLWS remain at VFR with easterly winds and
should see some snow early this morning. The snow should decrease
from the north Saturday afternoon, although strong gusty winds
