CENTRAL ESSEX COUNTY...

At 309 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated showers and thunderstorms 
producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two and a half 
inches of rain have already fallen. Flash flooding may already be 
occurring.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Bloomfield, Orange, Caldwell, East Orange, West Orange, Montclair,
Belleville, Nutley, Verona, Cedar Grove, Glen Ridge, North Caldwell
and East Newark.

An additional one inch of rainfall is possible in the warned area.

  Central Essex County in northeastern New Jersey...

* Until 830 PM EDT.

* At 452 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
  heavy rain across the warned area. Up to three inches of rain have
  already fallen. Flash flooding is already occurring.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Bloomfield, Orange, Caldwell, East Orange, West Orange, Montclair,
  Belleville, Nutley, Verona, Cedar Grove, Glen Ridge, North Caldwell
  and East Newark.

Additional rainfall amounts of one to two inches are possible in the 
warned area.

.SYNOPSIS...
A warm front will approach through tonight, and pass through by
Friday morning, A slow moving cold front will then approach and
pass through Friday evening. High pressure will build later Friday
night into Saturday. A weak cold front will then move across on
Sunday. High pressure will return for Monday, followed by
another weak frontal system for the mid-week period.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
The flood watch has been expanded to include New York City. With
precipitable water increasing to around 2.5 inches early this
evening, and storm motion progged to be less than 10 kt, the
risk for inch per hour rainfall for greater than an hour is
possible.

Attention then turns to showers/tstms with an approaching warm
front. Most of the activity with this front should hold off
until late afternoon, then continue mainly into the first half
of tonight from NYC west, and overnight across Long Island and
southern CT. PW increases to over 2 inches tonight, and this
plus increasing instability aloft and gradually veering low
level wind profiles in the WAA regime suggest heavy rain
potential. HREF probability-matched mean QPF suggests greatest
heavy rainfall potential should be just west of our CWA in
northern NJ, however enough additional guidance sources
including the SBU NAM-WRF, Canadian Global/Regional/HRDPS,
HRRR, and WRF-ARW, suggest this axis could set up farther east,
so as course of least regret issued a flash flood watch for NE
NJ for late today into much of tonight. It is possible this
watch could be extended farther northeast/east based on newer
12Z guidance and radar trends as the event begins to unfold
this afternoon.

High temps today should me mainly lower 80s, with lows tonight
in the upper 60s/lower 70s.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY/...
Guidance has trended mostly dry for daytime Fri in the NYC
metro area after warm fropa as mid levels dry out, with chance
PoP to the north/east where deeper moisture and better lift
ahead of an approaching cold front will reside. With more in the
way of sunshine for the NYC metro area temps should reach the
upper 80s/lower 90s, with heat index values 90-95 as sfc
dewpoints remain near 70. Temps across much of the rest of the
area should reach the mid 80s, with lower 80s right along the
coast out east.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Dry and seasonably warm/hot weather is expected through much of
the period. Temperatures should average a few degrees above
normal (especially day time max temps) through the period.

Weak shortwave and associated cold front pass late Saturday
night into Sunday. However, do not expect any shower/tstm
activity with this weak/dry feature.

Heights rise early to mid week next week as sfc high moves
offshore. Humidity begins to increase as well. Downstream weak
shortwave could produce a few thunderstorms for Wednesday.

.AVIATION /18Z THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
An approaching warm front today will result in the development
of widespread showers and thunderstorms, primarily after 23Z.
Showers and thunderstorm chances decrease overnight.

Prior to that time, it will mainly be a VFR forecast outside of
any scattered convection. IFR/MVFR conditions are likely in
heavy showers and thunderstorms this evening and into early
Friday morning.

S winds around 10 kt will back around to the SE late this
afternoon into this evening with the approach of the warm front.
A few gusts in the 15-18kt range will also be possible during
the afternoon hours.

Moderate to locally heavy rainfall expected late today into
tonight. A swath of 1-2 inch rainfall is likely from northern
NJ into the lower Hudson Valley and southern CT, with local amts
of 2-3 inches in or near NE NJ. Issued a flash flood watch for
NE NJ and NYC for late today into much of tonight based this
potential. The watch could be extended farther north or east if
later guidance or radar trends suggest. At any rate, outside of
the watch area, minor urban, low lying and poor drainage
flooding is possible.

At 214 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located over Bloomfield,
moving north at 10 mph.

Winds in excess of 30 mph are possible with this storm.

Locations impacted include...
Paterson, Passaic, Wayne, Bloomfield, Hackensack, Orange,
Bergenfield, Paramus, Ridgewood, Lyndhurst, Rutherford, Secaucus,
Harrison, Caldwell and Kearny.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may cause
