.SYNOPSIS...Cool and dry conditions will prevail across the
region through tonight, with frost confined to the colder inland
valleys. Rain returns during the day tomorrow and will continue
through Sunday night, as a weather system drops south along the
coast. There is also a slight chance of thunderstorms, mainly near
the coast. Dry weather will likely return by Monday, and then
persist through at least Thursday of next week.

.DISCUSSION...As of 1:40 PM PST Saturday...Water vapor imagery
continues to show the upper level ridge axis shifting inland
across Northern California this afternoon. As a result, skies are
predominately sunny, with temperatures warming nicely. In fact,
most places are within a couple of degrees of were they were at
this time yesterday, so expect temperatures to top out in the mid
50s to lower 60s. High clouds will begin to spread across the
region tonight, ahead of this next system. The marine layer will
also start to redevelop along coast tonight, so expect
temperatures to be a little warmer tonight. Some of the colder
inland valleys though will once again dip to near the freezing
mark, with frost possible again.
The primary concern for the forecast package remains with our
Sunday storm. Water vapor imagery continues to show multiple
disturbances rotating around the parent low over the Gulf of
Alaska, the one to watch is currently near 48.3 North and 151.8
West. This disturbance will rapidly dig south along the California
Coast over the next 24 to 36 hours. Although some light drizzle
may be possible during the morning, expect widespread rain to
spread into the North Bay during the late morning and early
afternoon hours tomorrow. This rain will spread south and east
throughout the day, with rain making it to the Monterey Bay area
by late tomorrow afternoon. This system is also marginally
unstable, so cannot rule out some thunderstorms late tomorrow
through tomorrow night. The majority of the instability will be
over the waters with the low. However, coastal areas could see
isolated thunderstorms as well. This low will quickly dig south
along the coast during the overnight hours, with the rain clearing
from north to south as well. A few lingers wrap around showers
will possible over Monterey County by Monday morning.
High pressure will then build back across the region, with dry
conditions prevailing for the remainder of 2019. Expect seasonal
daytime conditions to prevail, with cold overnight conditions
possible once again. Models continue to hint that this ridge will
be relatively dirty, with a number of weak disturbances moving
over the top of it. They have backed off the New Year's Day
system, keeping it farther to the north. Expect some cloud cover
for the start of the new year. A slight more potent system may
bring some light rain to the Northwest Coast late Friday and into
Saturday. At this point in time though, the models are struggling
with the timing. It could bring some light rain to the North Bay,
but doubt it will make it much farther south than that. Palmer

conditions forecast through the day today. Winds will be light
and onshore, locally breezy conditions in the afternoon. High
clouds will increase around the region through the day and into
the evening, as the next weather system approaches the area for

in the afternoon. Clouds will increase in the afternoon and
evening with cigs lowering to MVFR overnight.

the next low pressure system moves into the Pacific Northwest
waters. The low will move southward along the coast on Sunday
bringing a chance of rain and a slight chance of thunderstorms to
