Upper air pattern consists of a 500 mb trough over the northern
plains this morning with a trough also in the upper Great Lakes. The
trough in the northern plains will head southeast into the area this
afternoon through this evening and this heads into New England on
Tue. Deeper moisture and 850-500 mb q-vector convergence moves
through the area this afternoon into this evening. The deeper
moisture lingers then into Tue across the area. Could see up to 0.75
inch of pcpn for this forecast period with the lightest pcpn in the
far south. ALso kept in some slight chance of thunder this evening
across the southern half of the cwa with steep lapse rates and peak
diurnal heating taking place. Overall, did not make too many changes
to the going forecast.

While some light snow is possible in NE wind upslope areas Tue
night, attention is certainly on Thu into Fri when significant
snow and mixed precipitation is possible.
Deepening/stacking low pressure develops over the central Plains Wed
into Wed night and then shifts NE through or near the CWA Thu night
and Fri. Overall, models are in good agreement on many details. Some
of the specifics remain uncertain and will probably continue to do
so for another 24-36 hours. In general, expect snow ahead of the low
to start to move in late Wed night or early Thu. Warm air and, at
times, dry air moves into the SE CWA late Thu into Fri which will
lead to a change over to mixed precip. Cold air moves in as the
system passes on Fri, turning all precip back to snow. The
continuing precip on Fri will be lighter than Thu/Thu night.
Confidence in an impactful snow across much or all of the area is
high, although exact amounts remain in question. Snowfall will be
wet and heavy, adding to the impact. Very preliminary snowfall
amounts/spread from models are as follows:

Highs will warm into the 40s by Sun and Mon, with lows in the upper
teens and 20s. The cold night should help cold melting and keep
river levels from being too elevated those days.
This AFD marks my last at MQT after starting here out of college
almost 10 years ago. I have to say, it's been a fun ride forecasting
for and living in one of the most challenging and beautiful areas in
the country...with some of the nicest people, too. It has been such
a pleasure serving the Yoopers and their visitors (both on land and
water), especially working alongside some awesome and dedicated
coworkers that have been great examples and mentors to me. My first
day of work here saw the first snow of the 2009-2010 cold season, so
it seems fitting to have a snowy send-off. My next adventure will be
serving the Ozarks communities that I grew up in and around, which I
couldn't be more excited for!

remaining showers to either be mixed with rain and snow or

belts will take over later today, but confidence currently remains
on the low side with respect to direct impacts to the terminals. VFR
