as tributaries empty from the rainfall over the past week. We remain dry 
for a couple of days which is a welcome reprieve, with our next chance

.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Wednesday night)

Model guidance poorly handled the clearing this morning, but
latest CPD (Condensation Pressure Deficit) guidance has caught on
to the latest trends and keep central MN through the Twin Cities
under partly cloudy skies through the afternoon. The clearing line
is parked just southeast of the metro. Areas south of this line
remain under a thick deck of low clouds and will likely stay that
way through the afternoon as CPDs hold the line stationary.

The main system of note is the upper low positioned over Colorado
this afternoon, with a surface low across Kansas and a warm front
draped eastward across far southern Iowa. The severe weather
potential will remain well south of our area given the front won't
make it any farther north today. As the upper low tries to lift
north tonight into tomorrow, it will be inhibited by a much larger
and strong upper low pushing south from Hudson Bay. A wedge of very
dry air between the two systems will sag south into our area from
northern MN tonight and linger through tomorrow. These 2 factors
lead to a significant reduction in PoPs for late tonight into
tomorrow. The Hudson Bay low will really impact how far north the
southern system makes it tonight, shunting much of the upper level
forcing eastward rather than allowing it to advance north. With a
lack of forcing advancing north, the dry air in place will have an
impact on weakly forced precipitation. Still expect some light

will eventually lift into southern MN late tonight, so isolated

Northwest flow aloft looks to prevail through most of the long term
period, as we become sandwiched between a deepening trough over the
southwestern CONUS and a trough digging from Hudson Bay toward the
northeastern CONUS.

Overall this pattern will be conducive to near-normal temperatures,
with occasional bouts of precipitation. However, the threat for
severe weather and/or heavy rainfall in this sort of pattern is
low.

The chances for precipitation in this regime are a bit tricky to
time very far in advance, but this point ECMWF and GFS models
indicate weak forcing for showers and isolated thunderstorms late
Friday and Saturday, and again Monday and Tuesday. Have included
20-40% POPS during those time frames.

VFR conditions with low stratus slowly lifting and dissipating
this evening. The main challenge will be the wind direction since
speeds will be very light. An area of showers and thunderstorms
will lift up from Iowa into southern Minnesota, but these will
weaken as they advance and only have mainly VCSH for the southern
taf sites, and did not include any thunder mention.

KMSP...
It appears most of the rain will stay to the south, but still
carried a VCSH for Wednesday morning. Winds will be light, which
makes forecasting the direction a challenge.
