18Z issuance...A range of IFR to MVFR cigs forecast thru the
remainder of the afternoon within southerly flow that will be
gusty at times. Some potential exists for IFR vsbys closer to bays
and sounds this afternoon. Otherwise, vsby this afternoon at P6SM.
Overnight, cigs lower to IFR, perhaps LIFR categories. Vsbys
could once again be reduced to less than a mile at times. Cold
front makes passage late tonight bringing a chance of showers
ahead of it. Gusty conditions look to setup before daybreak

AVIATION...
12Z issuance...Widespread fog and areas of dense fog are being
reported this morning across much of southwest/south central
Alabama and the western Florida panhandle. LIFR to IFR
visibilities and ceilings are occurring at all the TAF sites
currently, and a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 15z
today. A slow improvement to MVFR visibility is forecast, but not
until around 15z for MOB. Due to the close proximity of BFM and
PNS to cool bay waters, MVFR visibility will not occur until
around 1630z. Ceilings will slowly improve to upper IFR or lower
MVFR levels from late morning through the afternoon hours. Areas
of fog are expected to redevelop this evening across the TAF
sites, and then dissipate shortly after midnight a strong cold
front passes through the area. Southerly surface winds of 7 to 12
knots through this evening will shift to the north after midnight
with gusts up to 25 knots likely. /22

PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 430 AM CST Thu Feb 7 2019/

NEAR TERM /Now Through Thursday night/...An upper level ridge of
high pressure over the Gulf of Mexico and southeast states will
shift slowly eastward through tonight as an upper trough over the
Western High Plains lifts east- northeast over the midwest states
and western Great Lakes. A surface low pressure area is forecast
to exit the southern plains this morning and lift quickly
northeast to the central Great lakes by late this afternoon, and
then across southwest Canada overnight. An associated fast moving
strong cold front approaching the region from the northwest this
afternoon will reach the I-65 corridor around midnight, and then
off the coast by late tonight. Skies will continue to be cloudy to
mostly cloudy through the period, and the forecast area will
remain dry through today, followed by mainly scattered light rain
showers tonight with the passage of the cold front.

Prior to the frontal passage, a light southerly wind will keep
abundant low level gulf moisture over the forecast area. Fog will
continue to be the main impact early this morning, mainly along and
east of a line from Wiggins, Mississippi to Evergreen, Alabama where
a Dense Fog Advisory remains in affect until 9 am this morning.
Dense sea advection fog is expected to linger across the Alabama and
western Florida panhandle bay systems, the Mississippi sound, and
the near shore gulf waters through noon. Patchy to areas of fog,
dense in spots, will expand inland again this evening along and east
of I-65, therefore additional Dense Fog Advisories mat be required.
The fog that has lingered throughout the week will finally end with
the passage of the cold front.

High temperatures today will be about 15 to 20 degrees above normal,
ranging from 75 to 80 degrees, except for lower 70s along the
immediate coast. Low temperatures tonight will trend cooler in the
wake of the cold front. /22

cool and dry weather begins Friday and lasts into Saturday in the
wake of Thursday night's cold front. No mention of rain in the
forecast during this period as surface dewpoints dip back into the
20s and 30s. High temps on Friday and Saturday range from low to
mid 50s west of I-65 and upper 50s to low 60s east of I-65.
Unfortunately, the upper pattern changes little over the local
area throughout the short term period and a persistent southwest
deep-layer flow maintains upper tropospheric moisture content. As
a result, expect broken to overcast skies to continue straight
into the weekend despite the low levels cooling and drying out.
The silver lining to these lingering clouds will be their impact
on overnight lows, keeping much of the area above freezing both
Friday and Saturday nights. /49

LONG TERM /Sunday Through Wednesday/...Surface winds shift to
easterly Sunday and then southerly by late Monday as high
pressure settles into the mid-Atlantic and southeastern states.
This brings a swift end to our cool and dry conditions as Gulf
warmth and moisture is pumped back into the area. High temps
return to the low 70s by Monday and dewpoints climb back into the
low 60s. Overnight fog once again becomes possible along with the
return of a few isolated showers on Sunday. The next upper
shortwave trough digs into the northern Plains states Monday,
leading to a surface low developing over the south Plains. This
low quickly tracks northeast into the Great Lakes region Tuesday,
pushing a cold front southeast through the lower Mississippi
River Valley and towards the local area. Ahead of this front, rain
chances increase across our area Monday and Tuesday as showers
become more scattered to numerous in coverage. The front itself
likely pushes through sometime Tuesday night into Wednesday,
bringing another brief cooldown late next week. /49

MARINE...A persistent moist southerly wind flow combined with cool
near shore water temperatures will continue to help the formation of
widespread fog, likely dense at times, over the near shore waters of
Alabama and Northwest Florida through Thursday evening. A strong
cold front will move across the marine area early Friday morning
leading to a strong offshore flow Friday through Saturday. Small
craft advisories will likely be required Friday through Saturday.
