18Z issuance...General VFR conditions expected today under north
to northeast winds 5 knots or less. Winds will become more light
and variable overnight. MVFR level CIGs possible along and west
of the Tombigbee river, along with patchy overnight fog. Flow
becomes southerly 5 to 10 knots Saturday morning, with increasing
coverage of MVFR level cigs possible, especially closer to the
coast as moisture levels increase.

12Z issuance...VFR conditions through 30.12z. Expect increasing
to mid to high clouds late today and tonight. With a light
southerly flow developing late today and tonight some patchy fog
will be possible and will have to be monitored closely. Winds will
be north to northeast at 4 to 6 knots early today becoming
variable 4 knots or less early this afternoon then mostly
southeast to south at 4 to 6 knots late this afternoon and

PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 514 AM CST Fri Nov 29 2019/

NEAR TERM /Now Through Friday night/...A broad mid to upper
ridge of high pressure over the Gulf of Mexico and northern Gulf
states this morning will begin to slowly drift east overnight and
early Sat morning. Near the sfc high pressure stretching from the
Great Lakes to the northern Gulf of Mexico will shift east to the
Mid Atlantic States and se conus by 12z Sat. With this pattern
increased subsidence in the mid to upper levels of the boundary
layer will continue across the northern Gulf states today leading
to more sun than clouds, likely leading to daytime temps above
predicated mos and blended values similar to yesterday. Latest
satellite loops showed a deck of low stratus at around 3k ft over
much of inland SE MS earlier this morning already eroding quickly
likely due to the better subsidence aloft further to the east. By
early this afternoon a weak onshore will develop along the coast
then spread inland through tonight as the surface ridge mentioned
above slowly shifts east. With this pattern increased low level
moisture is noted along the coast this afternoon and tonight
combined with the better subsidence aloft possibly leading to an
area of patchy fog forming mostly over parts of the Mobile Co in
AL stretching northwest over parts of inland se MS. This area of
fog could stretch further to the east over coastal areas of AL and
NWFL before sunrise Sat morning. As a result we will monitor this
pattern closely for better fog coverage overnight.

As mentioned above todays temps will run above predicated and
seasonal levels, ranging from the lower to middle 70s for most
inland areas and the upper 60s to lower 70s along the immediate
coast. Lows tonight, still above seasonal norms, will range from
the lower to middle 50s for most inland areas and the upper 50s to
lower 60s along the immediate coast. 32/ee

A Moderate Risk for rip currents can be expected along the Gulf
beaches of Alabama and Northwest Florida on Sat followed by a High
Risk Sun and Sun night. 32/ee

SHORT TERM /Saturday Through Sunday night/...An intense deep
layer low pressure system will be centered across the central
plains or near the vicinity of Nebraska early Saturday morning,
before gradually moving eastward toward the Upper Midwestern
states by late Saturday night into early Sunday morning. An
associated surface cold front will also push eastward to near the
Mississippi Valley region by early Saturday evening, before
quickly sweeping eastward across the Tennessee Valley and adjacent
Gulf Coast states late Saturday night into early Sunday morning. A
southerly to southwesterly low level flow will transport low level
moisture northward back into our forecast area through the day
Saturday in advance of the approaching cold front. Surface
dewpoints starting off in the lower to mid 40s over interior
portions of the forecast area, and in the lower to mid 50s near
the coast early Saturday morning will gradually rise into the mid
to upper 60s across most of our area late Saturday afternoon into
Saturday night.

Weak shortwave ridging aloft over the region early Saturday
morning gradually shifts eastward through the day, with mid level
flow becoming more southwesterly by late in the afternoon ahead of
the deep trough over the Plains. A deep layer dry airmass will
still be in place across much of our forecast area during the day
Saturday, with the exception of our far northwest zones during the
afternoon. We therefore will have a dry forecast in place through
Saturday afternoon over most areas, except for introducing a
slight chance of rain showers generally along and to the northwest
of a Beaumont, MS to Coffeeville, AL line during the afternoon. A
warm afternoon is anticipated, and have trended highs toward or
maybe a degree or two above the warmest available guidance. Highs
are forecast to range in the mid 70s to around 80 degrees.

A strong (100-120 kt) 500 mb jet streak on the base of the deep
longwave trough is forecast to translate from the southern plains
on Saturday evening to across the Mid-Mississippi and Tennessee
Valley regions Saturday night into early Sunday morning. Our
forecast area will also be located on the southern fringe of a
strong low level jet on Saturday night, with 40-50 knots of 850 mb
flow indicated across much of our region. A narrow zone of deep
layer moisture and ascent ahead of the ejecting shortwave
trough/mid level jet streak and also along and ahead of the
surface cold front will aid in the development of convective line
of showers and thunderstorms that is forecast to spread into our
interior southeast MS and southwest AL zones late Saturday
evening or around midnight Saturday night before translating
across the rest of our forecast area into early Sunday morning.
Short range model solutions do indicate that shear will be
strongest across locations along and northwest of I-65 late
Saturday night as the QLCS moves into the region. The amount of
instability that will be available will as usual remain the
biggest question for the overall severe threat across our region
on Saturday night. Forecast soundings generally indicate that
MLCAPE values between 400-800 J/KG will be aligned with 40-50
knots of low level flow, along with some curvature to the
hodographs (0-1 km storm relative helicity values between 200-300
m2/s2) indicated across locations along and northwest of I-65.
This portion of the region will be most favored for a damaging
wind and brief tornado threat Saturday night, but a marginal
severe threat may even continue over eastern portions of our CWA
until the line clears early Sunday morning. We will continue to
highlight the severe threat in our local graphics and Hazardous
Weather Outlook product.

A cooler and much drier airmass will otherwise spread into the
region on Sunday following the passage of the cold front.
Precipitation chances will quickly end over our eastern zones by
late Sunday morning, and expect dry conditions for Sunday
afternoon. Clear skies and colder temperatures are anticipated on
Sunday night. /21

LONG TERM /Monday Through Thursday/...A cool surface ridge of
high pressure will build eastward from the southern plains on
Monday to the central Gulf Coast region Tuesday. A deep layer dry
airmass with northwesterly flow aloft will allow for mostly clear
skies and dry conditions through early next week. Temperatures
also remain below normal Monday and Tuesday. A light freeze may
impact most locations along and north of I-10 on Monday night. The
dry weather conditions look to continue into Wednesday and
Thursday as northwesterly flow aloft Wednesday transitions more
zonal by Thursday. Temperatures should gradually modify back to
near normal values into the latter part of next week. /21

MARINE...High pressure stretching from the Great Lakes region to
the northern Gulf will shift east to the western Atlantic through
early Sat night in response to a deep area of low pressure and
trailing cold front tracking eastward over the eastern half of the
country through Sun. The cold front will move across the marine
area early Sun mostly after sunrise leading to a strong west to
northwest wind flow over the marine area Sun through Mon. Ahead
of the front a moderate to strong south to southwest wind flow
develops late Sat through Sat night. Showers and thunderstorms are
expected to form ahead and along the front moving across the
marine area mostly Sat evening through mid morning Sun. A few
strong storms will be possible with damaging straightline winds
being the main threat. 32/ee

There is a MODERATE risk of rip currents along the Gulf beaches of
Alabama and northwest Florida tonight.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday

Showers and thunderstorms are expected ahead of an approaching
cold front late Saturday through Sunday morning. Isolated strong
to severe thunderstorms will be possible across the forecast area
especially west of the Interstate 65 late Saturday night into
early Sunday morning. Damaging winds along with a few brief
tornadoes will be the main threat wit the stronger thunderstorms.

There is a MODERATE RISK or rip currents tonight through Saturday
afternoon and a HIGH RISK Saturday night through Sunday night.
