06Z issuance...VFR conditions prevail tonight with only a few
showers potentially lingering along the coast. More thunderstorms
are expected Wednesday, some of which could be capable of
producing strong, erratic wind gusts along with frequent
lightning and locally lower cigs/vis due to heavy rain. Winds
remain light and variable tonight, then generally east to
northeasterly around 5 to 10 knots during the day Wednesday. /49

.PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 351 PM CDT Tue Jul 9 2019/

NEAR TERM /Now Through Wednesday/...A broad area of low pressure
has emerged over the north-central Gulf. This low is expected
move west southwestward through the day on Wednesday. Conditions
favor development of this low and there is now a 70 percent chance
of tropical cyclone development during the next 48 hours. Please
see the latest from the National Hurricane Center for updates on
this system.

As the low moves west, southerly flow will increase across the area.
Increasing moisture combined with daytime heating and a weak trough
extending northward from the low will lead to scattered to numerous
showers and thunderstorms developing on Wednesday. The additional
clouds and precip will likely keep heat index values below advisory
criteria. However, a few locations could approach 108 before rain
coverage increases. The rip current risk is also expected to
increase to moderate on Wednesday. /13

SHORT TERM /Wednesday night Through Friday night/...At the
beginning of the period, a large upper ridge will be located over
the western half of the CONUS along with an eastward extension of
the ridge located across the interior southeast states. This
eastward extension of the upper ridge weakens through Thursday
night in response to an upper trof moving across the Great Lakes
region and into the interior eastern states. The weakening of the
upper ridge will play an important role in the eventual movement
of a potential tropical cyclone across the northern Gulf. The
potential tropical cyclone will initially be located over the
northeast Gulf at the beginning of the period and a general
westward movement is anticipated which takes the system to roughly
100 miles south of southeast Louisiana by Thursday night. The
weakening of the upper ridge will result in the potential tropical
system eventually turning northward, but there is uncertainty as
to when this occurs. At this point, anywhere along the Louisiana
coast is a possibility with this probably occurring sometime on
Saturday.

Confidence is trending higher for the potential of heavy rainfall,
and while this looks highest on Saturday, it's possible that a
Flash Flood watch could be necessary starting Friday. The portion
of the area with the greatest concern for potential flash flooding
looks to be southeast Mississippi and southwest Alabama. Will have
at least likely pops for most of the area through the period.  A
Coastal Flood Watch could also become necessary, depending on the
track of the tropical system, mainly for the Alabama coast. A High
Risk of rip currents will begin on Thursday and continue for
several days. /29

LONG TERM /Saturday Through Tuesday/...The potential tropical
system will be likely located somewhere along the Louisiana coast
early Saturday morning and moves northward further inland through
early next week. This system will maintain a potential for heavy
rains over at least some portion of the area through Sunday,
which currently looks to be southeast Mississippi and southwest
Alabama but could include the entire area. Will continue with at
least likely pops on Saturday, after which pops gradually trend
lower to chance pops. /29

MARINE...A developing area of low pressure will track westward over
the northern Gulf through the end of the week. A strong southeast to
southerly flow will develop by early Thursday with seas building to
8 feet or higher as the low moves south of Louisiana coast. Stay

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of south central

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

High heat index values ranging from 103 F to 107 F will continue
today, remaining just below 108 F advisory criteria. A few
isolated spots, especially over the western half of the forecast
area, could exceed the 108 criteria by mid afternoon. Stay tuned
for possible updates if needed.

Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop by
this afternoon. Although widespread organized severe weather is
not expected a few storms could become strong with gusty straight
line winds, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall being
the main threats. Due to better moisture content moving in from
the east some nuisance flooding will also be possible especially
over the eastern half of the forecast area late this afternoon and
this evening.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday

High heat index values ranging from 103 F to 107 F will continue
on Wednesday, remaining just below 108 F advisory criteria.

Locally heavy rainfall, possibly leading to some minor flooding
in low lying areas, will be the main concern with scattered to
numerous showers and thunderstorms Wednesday through Saturday.
Gusty straight line winds will also be possible with with some of
the heavier showers and thunderstorms in the extended period.

There is a moderate risk of rip currents along the Gulf beaches
of Alabama and Northwest Florida on Wednesday followed by a High
risk Thursday and Friday. Increased surf heights will also be
likely Friday and over the weekend.
