FOR NORTHWESTERN WASHINGTON AND SOUTHEASTERN WAYNE COUNTIES...

At 728 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 5 miles northeast of
Buckatunna, or 13 miles southeast of Waynesboro, moving southeast at
5 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

00Z issuance...Scattered to numerous thunderstorms north of the
highway 84 corridor will slowly dissipate this evening. VFR
conditions will prevail through the evening with light and
variable winds. Current high-res model guidance shows some
confidence in the potential for storms to initiate along our
coastal areas early in the morning and slowly drift inland by
mid-morning likely impacting TAF locations. Elsewhere, Low-end VFR
cigs will develop across the area as more storms will initiate
inland during the afternoon heating maximum. Gusty winds and MVFR
to IFR conditions will be possible within the vicinity of storms.

.PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 338 PM CDT Sun Aug 4 2019/

NEAR TERM /Now Through Monday/...Pattern remains relatively
unchanged for the next 24 hours. Upper trof continues over the
eastern third of the country, with weak shortwave activity
occasionally rotating across our area. Water vapor imagery indicates
that the mid levels of the atmosphere have moistened back up across
the area, so expect showers and thunderstorms to still be ongoing at
the beginning of the near term period. A few of the storms that
linger into the early evening hours could be a little strong with
brief wet microbursts being the primary threat. Several storms up in
and near our northeastern forecast area have produced wind gusts up
to around 50 mph this afternoon. However, storm intensity should
overall be somewhat restrained this evening as we lose afternoon
instability, but MLCAPE will remain up around 2000 J/KG early this
evening near the coast and any stronger storm this evening would
likely be located there. Slow storm movement would also result in
locally heavy rainfall and localized minor flooding. By mid evening
the thunderstorms will have decreased in coverage and intensity with
the loss of the day's heat and instability, but a mid level
shortwave moving east across the area tonight may keep an isolated
storm or two possible overnight. With better moisture and
instability offshore overnight, most of the late night convection
will again be out over the Gulf. Lows tonight expected to be in the
low to mid 70s, with the warmer temps along the immediate coast
(where even a few locations could remain in the upper 70s).

Monday will be similar to Sunday, as the large scale trof will
continue over the area, but shifted slightly further to the east.
With the trof axis further east, while there will still be some
scattered showers and storms on Monday, CAMs data indicates
possibility of less coverage than what we had Sunday afternoon.
Regardless, convection will continue to be mostly diurnally driven,
being most numerous offshore and near the coast early in the morning
then developing inland during the afternoon hours. Some of the
storms could again be strong on Monday, with MLCape values ranging
into the 2000 to 2500 J/kg range over the interior. Likewise, storm
motion will remain slow and erratic on Monday, and when combined
with precipitable water remaining up around 2 inches, isolated
prolonged rainfall and localized nuisance-type minor flooding will
be possible. Highs on Monday are expected to be in the upper 80s and
lower 90s. 12/DS

SHORT TERM /Monday night Through Wednesday night/...The broad upper
trough over the area will move eastward through midweek as the upper
ridge over the southern plains expands eastward. This will lead to
lower pops by Wednesday. However, Tuesday will still have high-end
scattered to locally numerous coverage with low-end scattered on
Wednesday. Convection will remain diurnally driven, with decreasing
coverage during the evening hours. Rain chances continue near the
coast an offshore during the morning hours each day. Due to the slow
movement of the showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain
will remain the primary threat along with gusty winds and frequent
cloud to ground lightning. /13

LONG TERM /Thursday Through Sunday/...The upper ridge will
continue to expand eastward as the upper trough moves into the
western Atlantic. Lower precipitation chances are expected through
the period, with mainly isolated to scattered daytime convection
occurring through the long term. We will also see a slight
increase in high temps the latter half of the week due to stronger
insolation, with highs ranging from 92 to 96 degrees, and heat
indices ranging from 100 to 106 degrees. /13

MARINE...A surface ridge of high pressure will persist across the
east-central Gulf through late week, with a mostly light to
occasionally moderate southwesterly flow expected. With the
generally light flow, a slight west to even northwesterly component
of the winds is possible during the late night and early morning
hours. Little change in seas expected through late week. Daily late
night into morning showers and thunderstorms can be expected to
continue through late week, bringing locally higher winds and seas.

extending from 4 miles south of Central Mills to 8 miles south of
Belknap to near Hayneville. These storms were moving southeast
at around 10 to 15 mph.
