Winds will northeast to east at 5 to 10 knots through 27.03z becoming mostly east to southeast through 27.12z. 32/ee && .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 503 AM CST Tue Feb 26 2019/ NEAR TERM /Now Through Tuesday night/...The first of a series of weak shortwave impulses embedded in a persistent zonal flow aloft will continue to approach the north central Gulf states from the west today and tonight, leading to better lift or forcing across the deep south and forecast area in the near period. In the lower levels better moisture will continue to advect north and east across the region eventually moistening and becoming better saturated below 5kft by this afternoon. With this pattern expect heavier rainfall to begin moving east and north across the lower sections of the forecast area by early this afternoon then spreading further north and east through tonight. Model soundings continue to show most of the surface based instability remaining offshore through tonight resulting in mostly elevated showers or thunderstorms continuing over much of the forecast area through tonight. Some surface based convection will shift inland along the immediate coast after midnight tonight generally over coastal sections of AL. As a result expect periods of heavy rain later today and tonight with a few rumbles of thunder possible followed by heavier showers with maybe a few better developed thunderstorms near the immediate coast after midnight. With the lack of strong forcing aloft and surface based instability in the near term period the threat for strong to severe thunderstorm development will remain low. Temperatures will be above seasonal levels through tonight with highs today ranging from the mid to upper 60s generally west of the I-65 corridor and the upper 60s to lower 70s for locations to the east and along the coast. Lows tonight will range from the mid 50s for most locations generally north of the I-10 corridor and the upper 50s to lower 60s to the south stretching to the immediate coast. 32/ee SHORT TERM /Wednesday Through Thursday night/...Little change from previous short term package. A progressive weather pattern will continue as a series of weak, fast-moving upper level shortwaves and impulses move eastward in a primarily zonal flow over the forecast area. While it remains difficult to pin down the exact timing and strength of each wave and impulse, it will keep a wet pattern in place through Thursday night, as a weak surface high pressure ridge continues across the eastern Gulf and Gulf coastal sections of the southeast states, and a nearly stationary to the north across central portions of Alabama and Mississippi. With increasing low level moisture in place, weak isentropic upglide will continue to result scattered to ocnly numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms through the period, with best rain chances during the day and lower rain chances at night. Highest PoPs during the short term period look to be on thursday, when rain will be likely. Although a few embedded thunderstorms are also expected, no severe weather is expected at this time. Rainfall totals will generally be one inch or less through the period, although localized higher amounts will be possible. Daytime highs will be in the 70s, nighttime lows in the 50s and 60s. 12/DS LONG TERM /Friday Through Monday/...Little change in the pattern Friday and early Saturday as we will continue to see a progression of fast-moving upper shortwave and disturbances across the area with the surface boundary remaining nearly stationary over inland areas of Alabama and Mississippi. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue to be possible each day. Longer range models differ slightly late Saturday and Monday, but both generally indicate that the frontal boundary to our north will drift south down toward the coast through early Sunday. The GFS then hangs the front up near the coast early Monday and only slowly moves south out over the Gulf by Monday afternoon, while the ECMWF moves it well south of the area by late Monday. Still time to watch this and see if models come into better agreement. will continue to maintain periods of at least scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms through the end of the period. High temperatures will continue to be in the 70s Friday and Saturday, but likely cool to the 50s sunday and Monday, depending on just how far south the aforementioned front makes it. Nighttime lows get progressively cooler through the period, ranging from the mid 50s to lower 60s Friday night but cooling to the upper 30s to upper 40s range (north to south across the area) by Sunday night. 12/DS MARINE...A moderate easterly wind flow will continue over the marine area through early Wed followed by a light to moderate southerly flow later in the week as a surface ridge of high pressure to the north shifts east.
