.PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 513 AM CST Mon Feb 25 2019/

NEAR TERM /Now Through Monday night/...Expect mostly a zonal
flow aloft to continue over the north central gulf coast region
through tonight. Near the surface high pressure over the northern
and central plains will shift east southeast to the mid Atlantic
coast and eastern seaboard through tonight leading to a weak area
of low pressure moving eastward from the lower Rockies to the
lower plains and north TX by late today and tonight. This pattern
will allow better moisture return from the south, initially in the
mid to upper levels, to begin advecting northward thus leading to
scattered light rainshowers developing over the adjacent gulf
waters late tonight, possibly reaching immediate coastal areas of
AL and NWFL just before sunrise Tue morning. This overrunning will
continue through Tue. Skies today will start off mostly sunny to
partly cloudy for most locations followed by increasing clouds for
all locations late this afternoon and tonight.

Highs today will be cooler than yesterday ranging from the lower to
middle 60s for most locations in the forecast area. Lows tonight
will be slightly above seasonal levels ranging from the lower to
middle 40s generally north of highway 84...middle to upper 40s
generally north of the I-10 corridor and the lower to middle 50s
further south stretching to immediate coast. 32/ee

SHORT TERM /Tuesday Through Wednesday night/...A series of
shortwave impulses embedded in the moist zonal flow pattern aloft
will translate across the north central Gulf coast region Tuesday
and Tuesday night. The surface ridge of high pressure will become
oriented across the Eastern Seaboard and adjacent western Atlantic
through Tuesday night, while a surface warm front gradually lifts
northward into the northern Gulf of Mexico, before becoming
stationary just south of the coast by 12Z Wednesday morning. The
first shortwave trough will likely aid in the development of
numerous rain showers and a few embedded thunderstorms along the
advancing boundary over the northern Gulf of Mexico during the day
Tuesday, while an additional approaching wave will perhaps
allow for increasing rain coverage over inland areas north of the
boundary by Tuesday afternoon. There is still some discrepancy
noted with regards to shortwave timing and extent of precipitation
coverage inland Tuesday, but confidence was high enough to
include likely POPs around 60% near coastal portions of the CWA by
Tuesday afternoon, while maintaining chance (30-50%) POPs farther
inland. The second in the series of shortwave troughs looks on
track to push across our forecast area Tuesday evening into late
Tuesday night, aiding in ascent for scattered to numerous rain
showers, with the best coverage expected within deeper moisture
near the boundary that should be draped just south of the coast.
Short range guidance is in agreement with bringing elevated
instability northward across much of our region Tuesday evening
into late Tuesday night, which will bring some thunderstorm
potential to the area. MLCAPE values generally remain less than
500 J/KG except near the immediate coast through Tuesday night,
and with our area looking to remain north of the boundary,
convection should remain elevated in nature through Wednesday
morning. However, we cannot rule out small hail with an isolated
stronger storm or two that develops near the coast late Tuesday
night into early Wednesday morning. Low level moisture return may
also bring some fog development to portions of the region by
early Wednesday morning, especially near the coast.

The stalled boundary near the coast should gradually lift
northward across our region as a warm front Wednesday into
Wednesday night. Timing of shortwave troughs in the zonal flow
remains in question for Wednesday, but enough moisture and
instability will remain available to support a continued chance of
showers and a few thunderstorms over our area through Wednesday
night. Shear and instability should remain fairly limited over our
region through Wednesday night, so any convection during this
time frame is presently expected to remain sub-severe. /21

LONG TERM /Thursday Through Sunday/...The unsettled weather
pattern will continue through the latter half of the week as a
series of shortwave impulses embedded in the moist zonal flow
continues to translate over our region. The most substantial of
these waves currently looks to be on Thursday where we will carry
high chances (60-70%) of rain showers and a few embedded
thunderstorms. Locally heavy rainfall may also be possible on
Thursday in the stronger embedded storms. Warm temperatures along
with a continued chance of showers and a few storms continue
underneath the zonal flow through Saturday. We still may need to
watch for a few strong to marginally severe storms Friday into
Friday night ahead of an approaching cold front. The timing of the
frontal passage is still uncertain this weekend, but does look to
be sometime in the late Saturday/early Sunday time frame. Medium
range guidance continues to indicate several waves aloft moving
across our region into the latter part of the weekend, which will
support a continued chance of rain into Sunday despite the cooler
temperatures. /21

MARINE...High pressure over the north central plains states will
shift southeast to the Atlantic seaboard through tonight. A moderate
to strong northeasterly wind flow will begin to diminish by late this
morning. A moderate easterly flow will develop late today and
tonight with scattered showers developing by early Tue morning.
Better rain chances are expected Tue through the remainder of the
week as deep moisture to the south continues to surge northward.
Areas of fog, possibly dense at times, will also be likely by
