.UPDATE...Updated products to make adjustments to the Dense Fog
Advisory. While at least patchy fog continues over most of the
area, dense fog has generally dissipated except for portions of
the coastal counties of Alabama and the western Florida panhandle.
We allowed the Dense Fog Advisory to expire for inland counties,
but maintained the Dense Fog Advisory, and extended it in time
(until Noon CST) for coastal counties. Visibilities of 1/4 mile or
less remain widespread across much of the western Florida
panhandle and Mobile/Baldwin counties of Alabama, especially
within a few miles of the coast. Will have to monitore for
potential of having to extend the Advisory even later into the
afternoon hours. Otherwise, forecast package for today unchanged.

.MARINE...We have extended the Marine Dense Fog Advisory through 3
PM CST for all of our inshore Marine zones, as well as the Gulf
marine zones out to 20 nautical miles. Water temperatures in the
upper 50s and lower 60s, combined with the warm and moist
(air temperatures in the low to mid 70s), will continue to result
in areas of sea fog, widespread dense at times, over the near
shore waters through this afternoon and likely into tonight and
Friday. Will continue to monitor this afternoon, and likely extend
the Marine Dense Fog Advisory in time with this afternoons

place at least through mid morning. After which IFR conditions
dominate through most of the day due to lower ceilings. Scattered

additional fog moves into the area from the coast shortly after

PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 515 AM CST Thu Feb 21 2019/
NEAR TERM /Now Through Thursday night/...With dew points
currently in the low 70s/upper 60s, the ongoing areas of dense fog
overland should linger into mid morning before mixing out and
dissipating. However, it is still possible some patchy fog may
linger along the immediate coastline in close proximity to the
Mobile Bay and Mississippi Sound over which fog some fog is
expected to last all day. A few scattered showers are initiating
now south of a stalled boundary from the previous day's front that
is generally along I-65. These showers should remain relatively
scattered throughout the morning but may increase in coverage by
the late afternoon and evening. As the southerly low level winds
interact with the boundary, some storms could be able to access
elevated CAPE values generally less than 1000 J/kg which is enough
to warrant a slight chance of thunderstorms for the afternoon
hours. By the evening, the boundary is expected to lift north
spurred on by the persistent southerly winds driven by the Bermuda
High. Then overnight, patchy and at times dense fog is once again
expected to form initially along the coast the gradually spread
northward throughout the forecast area. Despite the cloud cover
today and overnight, temperatures should range 10-12 degrees above
daily normals particularly for areas south of the boundary or
areas that do not receive rainfall. DJ/17
SHORT TERM /Friday Through Saturday night/...An upper level
trough over the Four Corners region and Desert Southwest Friday
will deepen into a potent upper level low as it lifts across the
Texas Panhandle and central Plains states Saturday, and then
eventually well northeast toward the Great Lakes region by
Saturday night. A very warm and moist southerly low level flow
pattern will persist across our forecast area in advance of this
system Friday into Saturday. An axis of deeper moisture within the
southwest flow aloft will remain oriented across interior
southeast MS and southwest AL on Friday, while a drier airmass
aloft will tend to push into southern portions of our forecast
area through Friday afternoon. POPs will overall trend a little
lower across our region Friday, but enough moisture will be
available to support keeping a 30-50% chance of rain showers over
interior portions of the forecast area Friday, while going with
lower chances around 20% near the coast. The axis of deeper
moisture should continue to shift northward across northern
portions of MS/AL by Friday night, with only enough residual
moisture to support a low chance of light rain showers across
interior southeast MS and southwest AL. The warm southerly flow
will continue to bring much above normal temperatures to the
region Friday and Friday night, with highs approaching near record
levels in the upper 70s to lower 80s and overnight lows remaining
very warm in the mid to upper 60s. The moist onshore flow will
continue to favor patchy to areas of fog development late, with
the best coverage near the coast.
Attention on Saturday will focus on the potent low pressure
system that will be lifting across the central Plains to the Great
Lakes region. An associated 100-110 kt 500 mb jet may eject from
the Mississippi Valley to the Great Lakes region, which will
likely support the development of an organized area of convection
across the Mid-Mississippi and Tennessee Valley region, with
trailing convection extending as far south as the Gulf Coast
region by Saturday evening. Our forecast area will be further
detached from the stronger dynamics with this system, but guidance
does continue to indicate potential for a few strong to marginally
severe storms on the southern extent of the line as it moves
across southeast MS and southwest AL Saturday evening. A 40-50 kt
low level jet will be coincident within a weakly unstable
environment with up to around 500-800 J/KG MLCAPE. SPC has
outlined a Marginal severe risk roughly along and northwest of the
I-65 corridor as convection moves across this portion of our
region Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening. The severe threat
should diminish into late Saturday night as larger scale dynamics
lift away from the region. Typical QLCS fare with a low end risk
of a few damaging gusts or a brief tornado with this system, and
will highlight the potential in our Hazardous Weather Outlook and
local graphicast. Highs Saturday should continue to be very warm
in the upper 70s to lower 80s, with lows Saturday night cooling
into the 50s over our northwest zones behind the passing cold
front, but still in the lower to mid 60s farther east prior to
frontal passage. /21
LONG TERM /Sunday Through Wednesday/...The cold front continues
to push east into Sunday morning, with a cooler and much drier
airmass spreading across our region in its wake Sunday night into
Monday. Mostly clear skies return during this time with
temperatures returning to slightly below normal values for a
change. The respite from the clouds and rain may be brief as the
next wave of moisture spreads back into our region from the Gulf
and increases rain chances on Tuesday and potentially into
Wednesday. /21
MARINE...Marine dense fog this morning is expected to wane over
the near- shore waters but should remain dense over the Mobile Bay
and Mississippi sound as cold bay and sound waters remain in the
upper 50s/low 60s. In addition to this, the SREF probabilities of
a mile or less visibility over 90% throughout the day. As such
have opted to extent the Marine dense fog advisory over the bay
and sound through noon then carry patchy fog throughout the day
until additional dense fog forms overnight. Bermuda ridge
continues to promote light to moderate onshore flow with scattered
showers possible over the open waters. This onshore flow is
expected to increase ahead of the next cold front late Saturday
into Sunday with showers and thunderstorms anticipated along the
front. As the boundary passes through the marine zones winds shift
offshore and skies clear Sunday through Monday though winds do
shift onshore late Monday ahead of the next system. A weak low
brings scattered showers and variable winds over the marine zones
Tuesday though much uncertainty exists if this unsettled pattern
