...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a High Rip
Current Risk, which is in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening. 

* TIMING...While potential life-threatening Rip Currents will be
  present all day, the risk will be highest between 11 AM, and 
  again after 5:30 PM due to tidal effects.

* IMPACTS...Rough surf and numerous strong Rip Currents in the 
  surf zone will post a threat to swimmers today. Weak swimmers 
  may not to enter the water above their knees today. Always swim 
  within sight of a lifeguard, never swim alone.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as jetties and
piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards...beach patrol flags and
signs.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
