The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a Beach Hazards Statement for rough surf and a moderate risk of rip currents, which is in effect through this evening. * HAZARDS...Breezy onshore winds will produce rough surf and a moderate risk of rip currents today. * TIMING...Through 9 PM. * LOCATION...The surf zone and beaches in the central Florida Atlantic waters from Flagler Beach to Jupiter Inlet. * POTENTIAL IMPACTS...Rough surf can knock you down and make you even more susceptible to becoming caught in the seaward pull of a rip current. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. Currently...Steady state onshore flow out of the east will continue overnight with beach and coastal winds keeping a mixed environment at the immediate coast and lighter winds inland. There may be a brief sprinkle from some of marine based SC as it comes ashore, however measurable rain is not expected. The updated forecast reduced rain chcs slightly for the overnight period given neutral moisture advection and paucity of model indication of pcpn. prev disc... Tonight-Thu night...As tonight progresses, another area of high pressure exiting the northeast US will merge with the aforementioned high and remain over the mid-Atlantic coastal waters through Thu night. Locally, the wind flow will remain from the east shifting a bit from the ESE Thu night. As the edge of the ridge sits across south FL, an area of higher surface moisture currently over the NW Gulf will reach the FL peninsula on Thu. At the mid levels, high vorticity will also accompany this area of weather and with a descent easterly flow, development of afternoon showers and thunderstorms is expected on Thu afternoon. However, these might focus towards the western half of the peninsula, mainly affecting the interior communities of Okeechobee, Osceola and Treasure Coast. Highs are expected to reach the upper 80s-near 90 across the interior and mid 80s along the coast. && .AVIATION... VFR conditions will prevail overnight and on Thu with easterly winds, becoming light tonight and increasing to 10-15 kts after Thu morning. && .MARINE... Tonight-Thu night...Thanks to the arrival of a northeast 10 second swell, seas will build to 5-6 feet across the far offshore waters east of Volusia and Brevard tonight through Thu night.
