* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by this afternoon and continue to
rise to near 5.4 feet by this evening. The river will fall below
flood stage by late Friday morning.
* Impact...At 5.5 feet...Some roads are flooded about 6 miles
downstream in Avon Township in Rock County. In the Avon Bottoms
area of Rock County, flooding is occurring in Sugar River Park.

Freezing drizzle is still vaguely apparent on radar and comes and
goes, but there is a diminishing trend as drier air aloft moves
in. The Winter Weather Advisory continues through 9 am to get
through the morning commute. Dense fog is spreading northward up
the lakeshore into southeast WI early this morning.

.AVIATION(12Z TAFS)...
Freezing drizzle, light fog, and low ceilings will persist across
southern WI into the mid morning hours. Expect the drizzle to
diminish, but the low ceilings and light fog will stick around
through much of the day. Temperatures will be around the freezing
mark in southeast WI and remain below across the rest of southern
WI.
Light freezing rain, sleet, or freezing drizzle will spread into
the area from the southwest this evening. We can expect a light
glaze to develop once again. Southeast WI will warm above freezing
Thu morning, but other areas will remain below freezing and have
a continued freezing rain, sleet and snow threat.

SHORT TERM...
Today...Forecast Confidence Is Medium.
We are still seeing a widespread area of freezing drizzle across
southern WI, eastern IA, and northern IL. We extended the Winter
Weather Advisory to cover this time period. The Wisconsin 511
website is still reporting slippery stretches across a large
portion of southern WI early this morning.
Model soundings show the dry air aloft moving eastward into
southern WI by late morning. Any lingering freezing drizzle
should diminish by this time. We can expect low clouds and patchy
fog through the rest of the day. Temperatures will remain steady
in the upper 20s and lower 30s today.
Tonight and Thursday...Forecast Confidence Is Medium.
We are expecting another round of freezing rain tonight and
Thursday. Southeast WI will have a shorter event since
temperatures will warm above freezing Thursday morning. Another
Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for this upcoming event.
An inverted trough will slide across southern WI tonight. QPF
looks light with this period since the better forcing will be to
our south with low level frontogenesis and to our northwest with
the main upper wave and upper jet. The surface low will slide
across northeast IL to northern MI on Thursday while the 850mb low
will track through central WI. This is a good setup for that
persistent warm nose aloft to produce freezing rain.
By early Thursday morning (3 am to 6 am), the 850mb warm sector
will begin to nose into southeast WI. We can expect higher precip
rates in this area, but temps rising above freezing will give us
rain rather than freezing rain. Northwest of this area, we will
continue to see freezing rain threat. Toward central WI, there
will be less of a warm nose and deep enough moisture to get
dendrites, thus a better chance of snow mixed in with freezing
rain and possibly sleet.
Ice amounts are uncertain, but the 50th percentile of model
output for storm total ice show values around a tenth of an inch
for southern WI. We are within a transition zone between the rain
and higher snow amounts meaning a narrow area could see higher
icing amounts. We will need to see how this pans out Thursday
morning.
Thursday Night Through Saturday Night...Forecast Confidence Is
High.
Models are showing precipitation quickly winding down Thursday
evening, with strong cold air advection on brisk west winds
pushing into the region. There may be some lingering effects from
the freezing rain/sleet/snow into Thursday evening, with
temperatures falling rather quickly.
Dry conditions with rather cold temperatures are then expected
for Thursday night into Saturday morning, as strong Canadian high
pressure slides southeast into the region. Lows in the single
digits Thursday night will not rise much Friday, with lows Friday
night dropping below zero. May reach 10 below zero in northwestern

West northwest winds will not be that strong, but will bring wind
chills in the 15 below to 25 below zero range. Thus, some impacts
from the wind chills are possible Friday night into Saturday
morning. Temperatures should recover somewhat Saturday afternoon
and night, with warm air advection developing.
LONG TERM...
Sunday Through Tuesday...Forecast Confidence Is Medium.
Models are generally showing a 500 mb vorticity maximum and some
middle level frontogenesis response moving east through the region
Sunday. There should be enough column moisture for a period of
light snow to move through the area. Raised PoPs back into the
likely range across most of the area for this period. May see
light accumulations of 1 to 2 inches during this time.
GFS/ECMWF are then showing low pressure trying to gradually move
northeast toward and into or southeast of the region Monday night
into Tuesday. The ECMWF is further north with the low track, with
the GFS further south. This may bring another round of light snow
accumulations to the area. For now, left blended model PoPs and
temperatures for this period.
AVIATION(09Z TAF UPDATES)...
Freezing drizzle, light fog, and low ceilings will persist across
southern WI into the mid morning hours. Expect the drizzle to
diminish, but the low ceilings and light fog will stick around
through much of the day. Temperatures will over around the
freezing mark in southeast WI and remain below across the rest of
southern WI.
Light freezing rain or freezing drizzle will spread into the area
from the southwest this evening. We can expect a light glaze to
develop once again. Southeast WI will warm above freezing Thu
morning, but other areas will remain below freezing and have a
continued freezing rain threat.

Nearshore Waters...
Waves of 2 to 4 feet are possible later today into Thursday, with
onshore winds persisting across the area.
Gusty west to northwest winds should develop later Thursday
afternoon and linger into Friday evening. Gusts of 25 to 30 knots
are possible during this period. A Small Craft Advisory may be
needed. Any high waves will be over the open waters of Lake
Michigan.
Open Waters...
Gusty west to northwest winds are expected Thursday night into
Friday morning, as low pressure exits the region. Gales to 40
knots may occur at times during this period. A Gale Watch is in
effect for this period, for the southern 2/3 of Lake Michigan.
High waves are expected on the eastern parts of the lake. Gusty
west winds to 30 knots may linger Friday afternoon and night,
with high waves lingering.
Heavy freezing spray is possible as well Thursday night into
Friday night, and a Heavy Freezing Spray Warning may eventually be
needed.
