  southern Lake Michigan. The winds will become more northeast 
  to north this afternoon and evening and increasing to gusts up 
  to 40 knots this evening.

* VISIBILITY: Areas of dense fog reducing the visibility to less
  than 1 mile.

.UPDATE...

Things still appear to be on track. We're starting to see rain
transition to snow across the far north, and the midnight start
time to the Winter Weather Advisory should work out nicely, as
some slick spots are starting to be reported.

Snow totals for late tonight and on Sunday look good. Some of the
more recent guidance is a little more robust with the lake effect
snow band Sunday afternoon, so upped amounts slightly south from
Sheboygan to Milwaukee. As is generally the case with lake effect,
uncertainty is on the high side regarding how exactly the band
will evolve, so additional changes are likely over the next 12
hours or so.

.AVIATION(06Z TAFS)...

Poor flight conditions will continue overnight and through much of
the day on Sunday before improving. Low clouds, fog, and
occasional rain and drizzle can all be expected overnight at the
terminals, along with gusty east winds. On Sunday, winds will
become more northeasterly and eventually northerly with time,
becoming very gusty by afternoon. Precipitation will transition
from rain to a rain/snow mix, and eventually light snow.
Accumulations are expected to be light, generally less than an
inch. However, there will be a lake effect snow band which may
impact KMKE and KENW, and could bring slightly higher amounts to
those terminals.

Winds will gradually diminish late Sunday night, with ceilings
improving late Sunday night into Monday morning.

.PREV DISCUSSION... (Issued 915 PM CST Sat Nov 30 2019)

UPDATE...

No major changes at this point. The 00Z NAM and latest short term
model guidance suggest that things are on track through tomorrow
afternoon.

The large area of rain (and a couple of occasional
thunderstorms) which is currently across the eastern portion of
the forecast area will continue to lift to the northeast this
evening. A mid level dry slot will move in behind this, with
precipitation changing over to more of a light rain/drizzle. Will
need to watch temperatures across the far north/northeast, as a
lack of cloud ice will favor freezing drizzle should temps reach
32.

Cloud ice will improve across the north late tonight into
tomorrow, with mostly light snow expected. Snow totals look good,
though there will be a sharp gradient right across our northern
tier of counties, so even a very slight southward shift could
bring higher totals into the far northern portions of the Winter
Weather Advisory area. The other potential wrinkle will be lake
effect snow potential later tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow
evening along the lakeshore. Sheboygan County currently looks to
be most favored, but it's possible that Ozaukee and perhaps even
part of Milwaukee County could see a little more snow than
currently forecast should the lake effect band remain inland a
bit longer.

MARINE...

Strong easterly gales will continue tonight, eventually focusing
across the northern part of the lake late tonight into Sunday
morning. Winds then becoming northeast and eventually northerly on
Sunday, and gales may redevelop across the south half of the lake
and across the nearshore for Sunday afternoon. Expect waves to
remain elevated into tomorrow night.

Winds will finally diminish on Monday, with relatively quiet
weather expected through the next 5 days.

SHORT TERM...

Tonight And Sunday...Forecast Confidence Is Moderate To High.

Few more thunderstorms possible late this afternoon and evening
due to vigorous synoptic lift and weakly unstable atmosphere.
MUCape of several hundred joules/kg will aid in the isolated
storm development. Any storms could produce a brief period of
small hail due to the low freezing levels.

Otherwise, more showers and areas of light rain will continue
through the evening, as left exit region of upper jet crosses
southern WI along with strong positive vorticity advection.
Meanwhile, the low level baroclinic zone will remain draped across
southern WI this evening, aiding in the synoptic lift.

As the low pressure circulation continues its eastward track
tonight and Sunday, colder air associated with the low will pinch
off the warm wedge of air. As the low levels cool, this will
result in the light rain becoming mixed with or changing over to
snow. The northern areas will remain the coolest longest, as the
mid-level deformation zone sweeps across southern WI.

Snowfall of several inches is looking more likely in the far
north along with persistent gusty winds. The falling snow and
reduced visibility would have greater impacts on Sunday
considering the increased amount of travel expected, so pulled the
trigger on a Winter Weather Advisory for the far north for now.
The advisory may have to be eventually expanded to include more
of the northwest.

Also, will need to watch for dense fog late tonight and Sunday
morning in the south, as the low level winds diminish to 10 kts
or less with the surface low pressure center passing across the
area.

Sunday Night Through Monday...Forecast Confidence Is Moderate.

Models are indicating that the lake effect snow band may linger
across the lakeshore counties for at least Sunday evening, before
gradually shifting offshore later Sunday night into Monday
morning. There is plenty of low level convergence over the
lakeshore counties during this time, with saturated low levels and
delta T values around 13 degrees Celsius.

Could see up to an inch of snowfall in the lakeshore counties
Sunday evening, though if it is strong enough, higher amounts may
be possible. Gusty north winds may add to possible impacts as
well. Something to watch for holiday travelers still on the road
Sunday evening near Lake Michigan. Kept high PoPs going for Sunday
evening, then moving east of the area later Sunday night into
Monday.

The low finally moves far enough to the east southeast of the area
by Monday to bring quiet weather to the area. The low clouds will
gradually move out of the area later Sunday night into Monday.
Temperatures will be chilly Monday, with highs only in the upper
20s to lower 30s.

LONG TERM...

Monday Night Through Thursday...Forecast Confidence Is Moderate.

Models are showing a cold front moving southeast through the
region late Monday night into Tuesday, accompanied by a fairly
strong 500 mb vorticity maxima within northwest flow aloft.
Airmass looks fairly dry during this period over southern
Wisconsin, so kept forecast dry for now. Perhaps some clouds will
move through the area during this time.

500 mb flow looks to be west northwest Tuesday night into
Thursday, with a high pressure ridge passing through the region.
Thus, quiet weather looks to occur for this period. Temperatures
should remain near seasonal normals.

Thursday Night Through Saturday...Forecast Confidence Is Moderate.

Models generally show a 500 mb ridge axis passing through the
region during this period, though there is some uncertainty with
model trends this far out. They do try to bring a strong cold
front southeast through the area Thursday night into Friday
morning, with cold air advection behind it. Not seeing much
moisture to work with, so this period could end up dry as well.
Passing high pressure would give way to developing warm air
advection Saturday. Temperatures should remain near seasonal
normals, which is supported by the GFS ensembles.

A Lakeshore Flood Warning remains in effect through 3 AM early
Sunday morning from Sheboygan County south through Kenosha County.
Strong onshore winds and high waves are expected, and will lead
to pockets of lakeshore flooding and erosion.

There is a slight chance of thunderstorms into this evening.

Dense fog is possible near the Illinois border later tonight into
Sunday morning.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect starting midnight tonight
for areas from Montello east to Sheboygan. Occasional rain will
transition to a wintry mix and then snow, starting later tonight
over northern portions of the area. This will lead to slippery
roads.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Saturday

The Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 6 PM Sunday for
areas from Montello east to Sheboygan, as snow will continue over
this area. 2 to 5 inches of snow is expected here, with a light
glaze also possible. Some blowing and drifting snow may occur as
well. Slippery roads will continue during this time for holiday
travelers.

The rain will mix with and change to snow on Sunday across the
rest of the area, with accumulations of an inch or less. It
should linger Sunday evening near Lake Michigan, before ending.
Some slick spots on roads are possible for holiday travelers.

Spotter activation will not be needed, but snow and icing reports
