.UPDATE...Brief funnel cloud reports are occurring over south
central WI with probably more expected this afternoon as the cold
front slowly moves east. This will occur with cellular showers or
storms along or near the cold front where the presence of low
level CAPE and vertical vorticity will stretch upward into
potential funnel clouds. Any rare occurrence of a touchdown would
be brief and weak.

The cold front is associated with an upper trough that will
continue to dig and deepen over the upper and middle MS River
Valleys and the Great Lakes today and Thu. The deepening upper
trough and low to mid level frontogenesis will result in periods
of moderate to sometimes heavy rainfall rates this afternoon as
fcst soundings are mostly saturated with MUCAPE values up to 500
J/KG. Post frontal pcpn is expected for several hours following
frontal passage. Cannot rule out the possibility of urban flooding
this afternoon into the early evening. Brisk nly winds and cold
and dry air advection will clear the skies from west to east after
midnight. The brisk nnwly winds will continue on Thu with few-sct
high based cumulus expected. Temps will warm to 65-70F.

continue this afternoon and then decrease from west to east across
srn WI tnt. Cigs of 600-3000 feet will become more widespread
later this afternoon with the Cigs below 1 kft mainly over ern WI
this evening into the overnight. Areas of MVFR Vsbys may also
occur due to the moist conditions. Skies will then begin to clear
from west to east after midnight, reaching MKE and ENW after
sunrise.

from ne WI to far ern IA will shift across the nrn half of the
lake late this afternoon and into the srn half of the lake this
evening. Breezy nly winds are expected including possible gales
over the srn half of the lake where a Gale Watch is in effect into
Thu afternoon. Over the nearshore waters from Sheboygan to
Winthrop Harbor, a Small Advisory is in effect from this evening
through Thu afternoon due to the brisk nnwly winds and high waves.
Modest wly winds will prevail Thu nt over the entire lake followed
by breezy swly winds for Fri. A Small Craft Advisory may be
needed.

UPDATE...

Showers continue across the area as expected this morning. The
forecast looks on track for the remainder of the day.

AVIATION(12Z TAFS)...

Showers are likely today into tonight as low pressure slowly moves
through the area. Scattered thunderstorms will be possible from
late morning into early evening. VFR conditions early this morning
will likely give way to lower ceilings later morning into this
afternoon as the low moves through the area. These lower ceilings
will hang on into tonight, particularly in the east toward the
departing low.

Plenty of sunshine along with breezy winds are expected Thursday
between the low to the east and an approaching high.

SHORT TERM...

Today and tonight...Forecast confidence is medium:

Low pressure will bring showers to southern Wisconsin today into
tonight. There could be some thunder late morning into early
evening given enough heating and destabilization. Storm motion
winds will be light, particularly this afternoon into tonight.
Though precipitable water values only peak around an inch, these
winds along with the generally slow progression of the low could
result in some locally heavy rainfall. Seeing some bullseyes in
the model QPF that would suggest this possibility as well. It
seems the eastern half of the forecast area would have the highest
chance to see some higher rain totals, though a lot will depend on
the timing of the better forcing along with any instability that
develops. Rain should wind down west to east later this evening
into the overnight hours.

Temps today are tricky. Not sure how much clearing there will be
ahead of the low, given the current rain and extensive cloud
cover in the region. If some sunshine does sneak through though,
temps could shoot up toward 70 pretty quickly. On the other hand,
if skies stay overcast and the rain is persistent, temps would
likely struggle to get much above the low 60s. Generally went mid
60s today due to the level of uncertainty.

LONG TERM...

Thursday and Friday...Forecast Confidence High...

Any lingering showers should end by mid morning on Thursday, with
blustery conditions expected for much of the day. North winds
will gust to around 30-35 MPH through the afternoon as a ridge of
high pressure builds in from the west. Highs Thursday look to be
in the upper 60s.

The center of the high will move through the lower Ohio and
Tennessee Valleys Thursday night, resulting winds becoming
southerly across the region on Friday. An area of isentropic
ascent may clip the northern part of the forecast area Friday
morning as a low level jet pushes through the area, with a slight
chance for showers. Otherwise, Friday will be warmer and rather
windy, with highs in the mid 70s. South to southwest winds will
gust into the 25-30 MPH range.

Friday night through Sunday...Forecast Confidence Moderate...

Friday night and Saturday will be unsettled, with periodic showers
and thunderstorms. Initially, the area will be within an axis of
low and mid level warm air advection, with percolating shower and
thunderstorm activity Friday night and Saturday morning. By later
Saturday, a weak cold front will attempt to push into the area
from the north, which may result in a slight expansion in
shower/thunderstorm coverage. Precip may linger into the first
part of the day on Sunday, before the front eventually pushes
south through the area.

Sunday Night through next Tuesday...Forecast Confidence
Moderate...

High pressure will build into northern Wisconsin later Sunday
into Monday, perhaps sticking around as long as Tuesday or
Wednesday. With this high in control, a few drier and warmer days
may be in store to start the workweek, with highs in the upper 70s
to around 80.

AVIATION(09Z TAFS)...

Showers are likely today into tonight as low pressure slowly moves
through the area. Scattered thunderstorms will be possible from
late morning into early evening. VFR conditions early this morning
will likely give way to lower ceilings later morning into this
afternoon as the low moves through the area. These lower ceilings
will hang on into tonight, particularly in the east toward the
departing low.

MARINE...

Low pressure just to the southwest of Wisconsin this morning will
deepen by the time it moves to northern Indiana this evening. The
low will further strengthen as it reaches southern Ontario early
Thursday afternoon. Northerly winds will pick up behind the low
tonight into Thursday, with winds possibly hitting gale force
across the open waters of the southern half of the lake. These
winds will build high waves in the south. A Gale Watch and Small
Craft Advisory have been issued for tonight into Thursday.

Winds will ease later Thursday into Thursday night as high
pressure passes by to the south. Southerly winds will then pick
back up later Friday into Friday night ahead of another
approaching low.

over the south half of the lake.

North winds will become quite gusty behind a cold front later
tonight. A few gale force gusts will be possible from late tonight
into Thursday morning. A Gale Watch is in effect for the south
half of the open waters starting late tonight.

CENTRAL LAFAYETTE COUNTY...

At 1248 PM CDT, a thunderstorm with a possible funnel cloud was
located near Darlington, moving east at 5 mph.

Locations impacted include...
Darlington and Gratiot.

Conditions in the atmosphere are such that weak, brief funnels may
form this afternoon. They usually develop beneath showers or weak
thunderstorms when the air aloft is especially cold.

These funnels are usually harmless, but on rare occasions can briefly
touch down and cause wind gusts over 50 mph. If a funnel approaches
your location, move indoors.

At 154 PM CDT, radar indicated a line of showers and a few
thunderstorms with possible funnel clouds were located along a line
extending from near Black Earth to Warren. Movement was east at 10
mph.

Locations impacted include...
Madison, Janesville, Beloit, Sun Prairie, Fitchburg, Middleton,
Stoughton, Waunakee, Monroe, Verona, Oregon, McFarland, Monona, Mount
Horeb, Windsor, Edgerton, Evansville, Columbus, Prairie Du Sac and
Marshall.

Conditions in the atmosphere are such that weak, brief funnels may
form this afternoon. They usually develop beneath showers or weak
thunderstorms when the air aloft is especially cold.

Watertown, Middleton, Beaver Dam, Whitewater, Hartford, Stoughton,
