around 40 in the far southeast to the mid 30s north.
Saturday Night - Confidence...Medium
Negative tilt 500 millibar trough axis will be moving through srn
WI. The surface/850 lows will be tracking through the cwa, thus
much of the area will be in the mild side of the system as
southeast winds pull a milder thermal pattern/thermal ridge axis
northwestward. The more western and northern areas of the cwa will
be more vulnerable to a mix or some snow before the lows pull
northeast out of the area and bring colder 850/925 temps into the
area. Believe that the surface temps will more likely reflect the
GFS 2 meter temp trends (largely above freezing in the
northern/western areas) so not too concerned about appreciable ice
accums and going forecast has this handled well. Also, the window
of critical temps coinciding with the higher qpf rates looks
small at this point. So the low snow/ice amounts we have in our
north looks good.
Sunday - Confidence...Medium
Cold advection will be in place with some Lingering cyclonic
flow. So can't rule out a few snow showers or flurries hanging
around, especially in the morning.
Sunday night through Tuesday - Confidence...Medium
High pressure will dominate this period with quiet conditions.
Cool airmass dominates into Monday with low level thermal trough
dominating. Center of the high across the area Monday night with
light winds so a chilly night setting up. As the high shifts to
the eastern Lakes Tuesday we start to see the beginnings of a
return flow take shape. Though this will be a dry southeast flow
that will keep any precipitation with next system to our west.
Tuesday Night - Confidence...Medium
Low level southerly flow will be on the increase. The 08.00z ECMWF
and GEM suggest some waa shower development. Meanwhile the 08.12z GFS
shows that saturation will be more of the mid level variety with quite
a bit of low level dry to overcome. Should precipitation occur any
mix potential would be early as airmass is proggd to modify as the
night goes on with the sustained southerly flow. The blended
guidance looks too cold and is thus generating too much snow. The
ECMWF looks more reasonable and this negates much of the snow
generation in the gridded forecast. May need to keep the
collaborative spirit going though later shifts may need to re-
evaluate the coverage of frozen precipitation given the likelihood
of a an airmass too warm to support snow.
Wednesday through Friday - Confidence...Medium
Above normal temps on Wednesday and Thursday as strong low
pressure moves to our north. 850 temps may exceed 10c on Wednesday
with highs eclipsing 50 especially in the far south. The low and
a mid level shortwave will likely bringing a round of rain through
the area, most likely Wednesday afternoon/evening before 700
millibar dry punch wraps in. Some cooling into Thursday though
southwest winds within dry slot may allow temps to rebound nicely
again, at least into the 40s. By Thursday night or Friday cold
advection kicks in with some rain or snow showers possible with
better forcing for that more likely on Thursday night.

.AVIATION(21Z TAFS)...In general, look for VFR conditions through
about mid day on Saturday...as high pressure maintains control over
our area tonight into the morning hours. A strong low pressure system
will then track from Kansas to eastern Iowa on Saturday, reaching
central/northern Lake Michigan later Saturday night. Look for rain
to overspread southern Wisconsin quickly Saturday afternoon with
CIGS quickly lowering to MVFR, then IFR levels with the steady
rainfall. Any wintry mix is expected stay mainly north of Milwaukee
and Madison. East winds will increase rapidly on Saturday, veering
to the south then southwest Saturday night.

.MARINE...Light winds will continue across Lake Michigan tonight as
high pressure slides off to the southeast overnight. An intense low
pressure system will then track from Kansas to eastern Iowa on Saturday,
reaching central/northern Lake Michigan Saturday night, moving
off to the northeast on Sunday.
Winds will quickly respond to the approaching storm system. East
winds will reach gale force levels Saturday afternoon, veer to the
south then southwest Saturday night and west on Sunday. Winds will
remain at gale force levels through Sunday evening.
A gale warning is in effect for the open waters of Lake Michigan
from noon Saturday through midnight Sunday night.
A small craft advisory is in effect for the nearshore waters from
9 am Saturday through noon on Monday.
High pressure then builds into the region for Monday and Tuesday
with diminishing winds through the early part of next week.
Another strong low pressure system will lift north into the area
Wednesday through Thursday, remain west of Lake Michigan. Expect
another round of gale force southerly winds as that system moves
through.
