.SYNOPSIS...
Weak high pressure will build in from the northwest tonight. A
strong low pressure system will affect the area late Sunday into
Monday. Another low will develop well offshore and could produce
some light precipitation along the coast late Tuesday. Cold high
pressure will build over the area Wednesday and Thursday. The
high will move offshore by late week.

.NEAR TERM /OVERNIGHT/...
As of 1005 PM Sat...Weak radar returns are evident from KLTX
and KMHX from Bladen into southern Duplin county this evening,
moving east into Onslow/Pender counties, warranting an increase
in PoPs for our southwestern zones. These showers are north of
the warm front, currently located from near Myrtle Beach west
into central SC, and aided by weak warm air advection starting
around 925 mb as noted in the 00Z MHX sounding. Also adjusted
min temps for SW zones as increased clouds will inhibit cooling.
Light rain/drizzle will be possible for the southern coastal
counties into Duplin/Jones through the overnight hours.

High pressure centered over the Mid-Atlantic states will
continue to nose south over the area tonight. Low/mid clouds
stratus are increasing in coverage across Eastern NC, due to
approaching warm front from the south and moisture socked in
below the inversion for northern counties. Increased sky cover
to mostly cloud overnight due to these features. After midnight,
clouds will begin to increase and winds will pick up in
response to developing low pressure over the deep south. This
will result in a non-diurnal temp curve with lows occurring
earlier than normal and temperatures steady or even rise a
couple degrees late. Forecasting lows 40-45 all areas.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY/...
As of 345 PM Sat...The aforementioned warm front will move
through the area Sunday. Clouds will increase and lower with
scattered showers. More widespread shower activity is forecast
to occur over the coastal plain late in the day as low pressure
approaches from the southwest. Highs will range from the mid 60s
in the southwest zones where southerly flow will occur the
earliest, to the mid 50s northeast where the southerly flow will
be later to develop.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 300 PM Sat...Unsettled conditions will persist through
early Monday, then drier but much cooler weather is expected
through late next week. The next rain chance may arrive as early
as Friday.

Sunday night...Strengthening surface low pressure will move
across the NC Piedmont and NE NC dragging a strong Canadian
cold front toward the area Sunday, pushing offshore by Monday
morning. Deep moisture will be drawn northeast from the Gulf of
Mexico with precipitable water values peaking around 1.5" over
the area Sun night. A warm front will be draped across northern
sections with best forcing/precip chances quickly developing
ahead of the strong cold front, bringing strong frontal forcing
and strong upper level jet dynamics. We will be in a high
shear/low CAPE environment with weak instability that could
bring isolated tstms through late Sunday evening. TD's will rise
into the lower 60s by midnight Sun night courtesy of the
strengthening SSW flow. Sfc CAPES will be at least several
hundred J/KG, sufficient for marginal severe in the late winter
months. Main threat would be damaging straight line winds with
any convection that can become organized.

Highs will be in the upr 50s nrn OBX to the mid 60s SW. Mild
conditions Sun night, with temps in the 50s and 60s most of the
night, with a non-diurnal temp curve for as it will remain
quite warm ahead of the cold front. Temps finally fall into the
mid 40s to low 50s by sunrise as the front is pushing offshore.

Monday through Monday night....The cold front will have moved
well offshore Monday morning with blustery CAA ramping up
through the day. Highs will be near climo with low 50s north to
upper 50s/near 60 south. Lows will drop down to below freezing
interior, to mid 30s coast.

Tuesday through Thursday...Modified arctic high pressure builds
into the region through the middle of next week bringing
generally dry and cold. Tuesday continues dry, though some inc
in clouds and perhaps a spotty rain shower near the coast,
though the GFS continues to be the outlier in showing widespread
rain, so will keep inherited coastal slight chc pop. Cold high
pressure will then build over the area Wed and Thu with upper
troughing forecast to develop over the eastern US. Tue continues

The heart of the arctic air mass will build on Wednesday, with
highs ranging from the mid 30s NE to the mid 40s SW. Coldest
night will be Wed night with lows in the low/mid 20s interior to
upper 20s beaches. The growing season officially begins on
March 5 for the OBX zones, so will likely need freeze headlines
if not Tue night, then likely Wed night. Temps will moderate a
bit Thur with highs in the low 40s NE to low 50s SW.

Thursday night/Friday...High pressure slowly moves offshore Thu
night with another storm system that is progged to move across
the central and eastern US late next week into the weekend.
There is a large range in ensemble spread, and also amongst
global model suite in how quickly high pres departs, leading to
large uncertainty on when precip moves back into E NC, so will
keep PoPs limited to slt chc to low chc at this time.

.AVIATION /03Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Short Term /through Sunday/...
As of 640 PM Sat...Mostly VFR conditions are expected to prevail
tonight with increasing clouds and winds late limiting fog
potential. Some guidance suggest MVFR ceilings developing around
09Z, but think this will occur during Sunday afternoon when the
area comes into a region of better warm air and moisture
advection. Scattered showers will be possible Sunday as a warm
front lifts north through the area with the best threat for rain
at the TAF sites after 18-20Z Sunday as low pressure approaches.

Long Term /Sunday night through Thursday/...
As of 315 PM Sat ...Deep moisture over the region Sunday night
will bring widespread sub- VFR conditions likely with a low
pressure system and strong cold front tracking across the area.
THe front will push offshore by Monday morning with pred VFR
conditions returning and continuing through mid-week as a much
drier and colder airmass builds into the region.

As of 1000 PM Sat...Latest surface and buoy data indicate NNE
winds 5-15 kt across the waters with medium period seas ranging
3-5 ft. High pressure will build over the waters tonight with a
warm front lifting north through the waters Sunday, increasing
SE-S flow. Tonight N-NE winds 5-15 kt will veer to the E. on
Sunday, E winds 5-15 kt early will become SE-S and increase to
15-20 kt in the afternoon. Latest obs continue to show NW winds
5-15 kt with seas 2-5 ft. Weak high pressure will briefly build
in from the NW later today and tonight. 2-4 ft seas expected
through Sunday morning building to 3-5 ft Sunday afternoon.

Long Term /Sunday night through Thursday/...
As of 320 PM Sat...High confidence in SCA Sunday night into
Monday night. A short period of gales could affect the ctrl/srn
waters and Pamlico sound ahead of strong cold front. Strong SW
winds 20-30 kt will develop Sunday ahead of strong Canadian cold
front. This will allow seas to build as high as 8-10 feet
Sunday night and early Mon. This will followed by a strong CAA
surge behind the front Mon with N winds of 15-25 knots with
higher gusts and seas continuing rough at 5-8 feet before
subsiding late Monday night. Developing low pressure is
currently forecast to be far enough offshore Tue such that winds
will be forecast 15 kt or less and seas no higher than 3 to 5
ft. Strong CAA develops late Tue night and Wed behind the low
with NW winds increasing to 15-25 kt and seas building back to
3-6 ft. W winds diminish to 15 kt or less Thursday with seas
subsiding to 1 to 3 ft in the afternoon.
