blowing snow to the Cascades, Siskiyous, and Mount Shasta area
later Tuesday through Wednesday afternoon. Light to moderate snow
and blowing snow are also expected Tuesday night into Wednesday
over much of the east side and Shasta Valley. Snow will change to

.DISCUSSION...We are working on some updates now, primarily to
adjust pops and headlines for today. There isn't much going on
right now as the vast majority of precipitation is to our north.
There is still some rain at the coast and snow in the Cascades
from Crater Lake north, but little to nothing elsewhere. We will
be dropping the winter weather advisories for areas outside of
zones 25/27 (Cascade zones around Crater) for today. -Wright

.MARINE...Updated 830 AM PST Monday 11 February 2019...A cold
front will move very slowly through the waters Tuesday into
Tuesday night. This front will bring gale force winds and very
steep hazardous seas to the waters beginning later this morning
and continuing into Tuesday night. Weak low pressure will persist
over the area Wednesday into Thursday. Winds and seas will
diminish during this interval. A weak front will move onshore
Thursday night into Friday, followed by additional weak fronts
into the weekend. Heavy long period northwest swell will build
Friday, peaking Friday night at 20 to 21 feet with a period of 16

DISCUSSION...
Precipitation overnight through this morning has been much lesser
than expected. It has snowed most of the night across eastern
Douglas County, from Union Creek northward, along Highway 97 near
Sand Creek, and from the Crater Lake area northward. Winter
Weather Advisories have been scaled back in the last few hours to
reflect the above information and expectations for today.
Advisories previously out for elevations above 1500 feet from
Jackson and Siskiyou counties westward have been scaled back to
smaller areas that only include elevations above 2500 feet. Also,
the advisory for zone 28 has been cancelled, as amounts will not
be reaching advisory criteria.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for elevations above
3000 feet in the Mount Shasta area late this afternoon through
Tuesday morning for 4 to 7 inches of snow as southerly flow gets
the Mount Shasta snow machine going again.

Altogether, the models have slowed the inland progression of the
upper level trough and associated frontal system moving through
the area this week. Thus, the high wind warning for the coast has
been extended into early Tuesday afternoon. the frontal system
becomes a bit more north-south oriented, too, so snow amounts have
come down some for Tuesday and Wednesday in the Crater Lake area.
Also, models have trended a bit warmer and, consequently, a bit
higher on snow levels due to to this slower frontal movement.
thus, elevations between 2500 and 3500 feet may see some rain, at
times, rather than all snow this week. We are still expecting
heavy snow in the 1 to 2 foot range in most of the mountains
above 2500 to 3500 feet Tuesday into Wednesday.

Beyond Wednesday models have fluctuated wildly in the last 12
hours on temperatures and precipitation. Therefore, the forecast
has been left mostly unchanged until some reasonable agreement can
bee discerned. Some model runs eject the trough out of the area,
while others keep it going strong.

All in all the GEFS mean indicates troughing and colder than
normal temperatures with near to above average precipitation
going through the 17th of this month, move it east into the front
range of the Rockies and plains from the 17th-21st, and then bring
it back west again for the 22nd-27th. All in all this means that
we'll remain colder than normal across the area through month's
end. BTL

AVIATION...For the 11/12Z TAFs... Areas of MVFR cigs/vsbys in rain,
low clouds are expected today and tonight, especially along the cost
and inland into the Umpqua basin and Josephine county.  Also as the
front moves near the coast, expect strong gusty winds to develop
this afternoon through tonight at the coast.  Inland, low level wind
shear is expected in the Umpqua basin and in Josephine county.
Widespread mountain obscurations are expected due to snow showers
across mountains  from the Cascades west today and tonight. Also
MVFR and IFR cigs/vis are expected in the Mount Shasta area late
today and tonight.  East of the Cascades, conditions will be mainly
VFR with areas of MVFR cigs in showers. Areas of strong gusty winds
are expected today and tonight in the Shasta Valley and east of the
