.DISCUSSION...
An anomalous weather pattern to set-up Tue wrt temps/RH and Wed wrt
wind/RH/temps. Near Record High temps will be fairly widespread Tue
when 85h temps of 28C will translate to L90s-N100. By Wed the 85h
thermal ridge will move east and temps will cool some across the
west (about 10 degrees), but only a couple of degrees across most of
the PB and Trans Pecos. Wind anomalies will be significant, +2 to
4 standard deviations in 85h-5h layer. 7h gradient continues to
support high end advisory or right at warning conditions across
the much of the plain, mtns are a forgone conclusion with gusts of
70-90 mph above 6500 ft in Davis-GDP Mtns, respectively. MAV
guidance seems to be overdone in a few places, like Marfa? We
certainly consider Wed to be a high impact weather day. Damaging
winds, low visibilities, traffic impacts, severe/extreme
turbulence, and high demand on fire resources are all possible.
Winds will be slow to decrease into Wed night and it will be windy
and continued dry Thur, but cooler. Probably a little cooler
across PB on Fri in wake of the cold front, but still warm across
most of the Trans Pecos. Still a large degree of uncertainty Sat
as to whether the front will be as far s and as cool with precip
as the ECMWF/GFS depict? MOS guidance could is probably too warm
and highs in the 40s are possible north of I-20, we'll keep it in
the 50s for now. Warmer Sun-Mon.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Extreme fire weather conditions are expected across western portions
of the area Wednesday. An intense storm system will move into the
plains bringing very windy and dry conditions. ERC charts
continue to show a sharp drying trend in the fuels, especially for
locations missed by rain Friday night. Single digit RH's will
become widespread across the region Tuesday with high temperatures
15-20 degrees above normal. The combination of very low rh's and
stronger winds in the Guadalupe Mountains will lead to critical to
extreme fire weather conditions there Tuesday afternoon. Fuels
are the mitigating factor as ERC's are just near the 50th
percentile. Even so, weather conditions warrant an upgrade to a
Red Flag Warning. Recovery looks poor Tuesday night in the
Guadalupe Mountains with rh's barely recovering to 20 percent and
windy conditions continuing. For these reasons, have extended the
Red Flag Warning through the night.
By Wednesday, it is looking likely a windstorm will affect the area.
Fire weather concerns will be greatest for the western PB, SE NM,
the Big Bend, and the Trans Pecos where fuels have yet to green up.
Many fuels are in transition across the eastern part of our area,
but a lot of cured fuels exist on top. Significant wildfires are
possible, but unlikely with IA fires being more of a concern. RFTI's
around 8 put our area in the extreme category for fire weather
conditions so will hoist a Fire Weather Watch for the entire area
Wednesday. Strong winds look to last into the late week time frame,
however a cold front should allow for at least some increase in
rh's.
