* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 26.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river will rise above flood stage by Wednesday afternoon
and continue to rise to near 26.5 feet by Thursday morning.
* Impacts at 21.0 feet...Corps regulation stage during the winter
months for Bull Shoals and Norfork Reservoir releases.
* Impacts at 26.0 feet...Many thousands of acres of cropland are
inundated. Water is near State Highway 14. Many private levees are
overtopped allowing the river to flood cropland. Water in portions
of Jacksonport State Park that are on river side of levee.

keep river from backing up outflow pipe. Extensive flooding in the
delta. Most cropland and timber in bottoms are flooded. Much of the
National Wildlife Refuge land downstream of Clarendon will be
flooded.

* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 30.0 feet by
Wednesday...February 20th.
* Impacts at 28.0 feet...Flooding of cropland and timber is occurring.
Roads to homes and cabins in lower Maddox Bay area off Highway 146
south of Clarendon impassible.
* Impacts at 30.0 feet...Clarendon storm sewer should be closed to
keep river from backing up outflow pipe. Extensive flooding in the
delta. Most cropland and timber in bottoms are flooded. Much of the
National Wildlife Refuge land downstream of Clarendon will be
flooded.

overtopping. State Highway 14 east of Newport at Village Creek
could be flooded by backwater. State Highway 14 west of Newport
is flooded. State Highway 69 in Independence County may be flooded.
Flooding up Village Creek extends to eastern portions of Newport.
Extensive flooding of cropland in Jackson and Independence County
along the White and the lower Black River. River crested slightly
above 28 feet in December 2001 and March 2002.
* Impacts at 30.0 feet...Serious flood problems in Jackson and
Independence counties. Flooding extends across entire White River
Valley downstream of Newport. State Highways 14, 37, 69, and 384 in
the vicinity of Newport may all be affected by flooding. Village

by Wednesday morning. However...additional heavy rainfall through

* Impacts at 26.0 feet...Backwater up Little Red River floods
bottomland near West Point and Georgetown. Numerous roads and
bridges flooded west of the river. Extensive area of cropland in
White, Woodruff, and Prairie counties flooded. State Highway 36 is
probably flooded and impassable. Georgetown and Nimmo could be
isolated by floodwater. Residents should either leave or have
provisions for a prolonged stay.

feet by Sunday...February 24th.
* Impacts at 30.0 feet...Clarendon storm sewer should be closed to keep
river from backing up outflow pipe. Extensive flooding in the delta.
Most cropland and timber in bottoms are flooded. Much of the National
Wildlife Refuge land downstream of Clarendon will be flooded.
* Impacts at 32.0 feet...State Highway 302 north of Clarendon may be
affected. Some industrial property in Clarendon on river side of
levee may be flooded. Many access problems for recreational
properties downstream of Clarendon. Many downstream areas are
accessable by boat only. Height and duration of flooding along the
lower White River is greatly dependant on the level of the
Mississippi River in combination with the flow rate of the White
River.

Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service Little Rock AR 516 AM CST Sat Feb 9 2019 .AVIATION... Vfr conditions will be prevalent through most of the period. However, by late tonight, mvfr ceilings will develop, as precipitation develops. Any precip that occurs should be showers over most of the area, but the north could see a brief period of -FZDZ or -FZRA. && .PREV DISCUSSION...(ISSUED 352 AM CST Sat Feb 9 2019) Short Term...Today through Sunday Night Biggest concern in the short term will be winter weather chances late tonight and early Sunday, then heavy rainfall Sunday into the long term periods. Should be another chilly day today, with northeast/east winds and increasing low and mid level moisture/clouds. Highs will mostly be in the mid 30s to mid 40s. Precipitation should begin to develop late tonight, as a mid-level trough moves through in the mean flow, and uplift occurs along/north of a surface boundary located near the Gulf Coast. As surface low pressure pushes the boundary to the north a bit, and several waves move through and interact with the surface system, there will be several rounds of rain, which could be heavy at times. This will continue into the long term periods, and will be discussed accordingly. As far as winter weather chances go...with the shallow cold air depth, as precipitation develops, there will be a window of opportunity for light wintry precipitation late tonight and early Sunday morning. Judging from the aforementioned shallow depth, precipitation would start out as sleet or light freezing rain/ freezing drizzle, transitioning to rain as temperatures rise above freezing. While there could be some minor travel impacts initially over northern Arkansas, this should be brief, as temperatures should rise above freezing by mid to late morning. For now, planning on a Winter Weather Advisory for about the northern two rows of counties for late tonight/early Sunday. Though temperatures will moderate some over the next 48 hours, we should remain largely below climatological averages (especially maximum temps). Long Term...Monday through Friday A progressive pattern is expected in the extended period, with at least a couple of systems bringing unsettled weather to the region. The first system/event will be ongoing Monday, with areas of rain in the forecast and at least a chance of thunderstorms over central and southern Arkansas. Rain could be heavy over the southeast half of the state, with one to two inch amounts in the forecast through early Tuesday. This will result in at least a potential of localized flash flooding and minor river flooding. The system will go by on Tuesday, with rain tapering off. Dry conditions will hold through at least Wednesday, and then the next system will be knocking on the door. Another round of showers is expected on Thursday, and rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out. As rain winds down on Friday, there could be a brief period of light snow in the northwest. This does not look like anything major. The long term will be devoid of any Arctic air, with systems mostly coming from the Pacific. Given this, above average temperatures are in the forecast. Fire Weather... Over the next few days, mixing heights are expected to be rather low, as a temperature inversion will remain over the state, with little chance of clouds breaking up. Minimum humidity will remain high, as several rounds of precipitation affect the region.
