.SHORT TERM...  (Through Late Wednesday Afternoon)
Issued at 344 AM CDT Tue Apr 2 2019

Light showers are currently over northwest Missouri moving to the
east. These showers were occurring in an area of weak mid level
ascent associated with a mid level vort max seen in water vapor
imagery. The RAP has this ascent moving quickly eastward and
weakening at the same time low level moisture convergence does the
same as it moves into the northern CWA. CAMS depicts some
isolated light showers moving into northeast Missouri and west
central Illinois between 12-16Z that gradually diminishes in
areal coverage as they move eastward. Will reflect this in the
forecast this morning.

A cold front that currently extends from southern Wisconsin into
Iowa will move southward into the CWA today and eventually stalls
as the upper flow becomes zonal by tonight. There will be an
increase in moisture convergence north of this front during the
morning tomorrow as the low level flow turns out of the south in
advance of an upper trough moving out of the western CONUS. This
will be enough to produces scattered showers by tomorrow afternoon
over northeast Missouri and west central Illinois.

Temperatures today will be warmer than yesterday as mixing down
850mb temperatures and short term ensembles support highs in the
upper 50s to low 60s.  With the front moving back to the north in
response the western trough approaching the area, expect highs to be
in the 60s in most areas.

.LONG TERM...  (Wednesday Night through Monday)
Issued at 344 AM CDT Tue Apr 2 2019

Best chance for showers in the extended part of the forecast still
looks like it will occur Wednesday night into Thursday night.  This
is when ECMWF/GFS/Canadian and the GEFS mean bring a trough across
the Midwest late Thursday into Thursday night. Most surface model
depictions show the surface low staying south of the CWA with an
inverted trough moving through the area.  Still expect isolated
thunderstorms over at least the southern half of the CWA as model
forecasts are showing some small amounts of MUCAPE and relatively
steep mid level lapse rates over the southern half of the CWA.

While Friday and Friday night still look dry as an upper ridge moves
across the area, there is more uncertainty on when it will rain as
we move into the weekend.  The deterministic models are handling the
timing of two troughs differently which will have implications on
when showers and thunderstorms will impact the area this weekend.
This is reflected in GEFS QPF plumes which showing a large spread
which reflects this uncertainty.  At this point, will go with a
chance of showers and thunderstorms from late Saturday into Monday.

Ensemble mean temps and 850mb temps support above normal
temperatures on Wednesday followed by near normal temperatures Thursday
when there will be the best rain chances. 850mb temperatures over
the weekend will climb to around 10C which supports GEFS mean
temperatures in the 70s for highs on Saturday and Sunday.

Hannibal, Saverton Lock and Dam, Clarksville Lock and Dam, and
Winfield Lock and Dam on the Mississippi River and at Hardin along
the Illinois River. Otherwise, moderate flooding will continue at
points on the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. See the appropriate

There is a chance for thunderstorms across parts of the area
