.The Flood Warnings are a result of a combination of snowmelt and
heavy rainfall in recent weeks. Additional rainfall of around one-
quarter of an inch in forecast in the next 48 hours...
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Rainfall heavier than forecast could cause river levels to rise even
higher than predicted. The National Weather Service will monitor
this developing situation and issue follow up statements as
conditions or forecasts change.
Safety message: Never drive cars, trucks, or sport utility vehicles
through flooded areas. The water may be too deep to allow for safe
passage.

Main concern through today will be the wind. Have left the wind
advisory as is for now.
A secondary cold front moved through the area during the late
evening and early overnight hours bringing the surge of strong winds
to the area. Initially some of the winds were in excess of 50-60
mph with reports of power outages. Since then, wind gust at 4 am
are in the 35-45 mph range and expect them to stay this way
through at least the morning. The surface pressure gradient will
remain tight through the morning hours as the RAP shows the
surface low currently over Wisconsin continuing to lift northeast
as the surface high over the central High Plains intensifies.
Forecast soundings are showing 900mb winds around 50kts at 12Z
which will continue to mix down through this morning before slowly
diminishing from southwest to northeast today as the surface low
lifts off to the northeast. Will keep with the southwest half of
the advisory expiring at 18Z, and continue the northeast half of
the CWA through 00Z.
Latest satellite trends are showing rapid clearing of the low
clouds across Missouri, with the clearing line almost to KCOU/KJEF
and it is likely reaching the Mississippi river shortly after
sunrise. Will keep with this idea and go with a mostly sunny sky
today though temperatures will be below normal because of the cold
air advection. Lows tonight will be quite cold tonight because a
surface ridge will race into the area under clear skies allowing
for strong radiational cooling. Temperatures will fall into the
teens and lower 20s. Skies will stay sunny tomorrow, but a front
will move north to near I-70 by late in the day causing quite a
disparity in temperatures from north to south.

As stated in previous discussions...global models upper pattern are
depicting quasi-zonal flow across the Midwest from Tuesday into
Thursday. Then there is some agreement between the models that a
trough will dig into the northern Plains by Friday and move into
the upper Midwest by Saturday. The net effect of this is to
briefly bring the warm sector north into the area Tuesday night
into Wednesday which may be the only times this week temperatures
climb to near normal. It still looks like a shortwave trough will
move across the Midwest midweek bringing a mix of rain and snow
to the CWA Wednesday into Thursday and there will be another
chance of precipitation with the deeper trough Friday into Friday
night.

Satellite is showing the back edge of low clouds with MVFR
ceilings has already cleared KCOU and will reach KUIN and the St.
Louis area terminals between 13-15Z. Once the clouds clear out,
dry and VFR conditions are expected the rest of the period. The
strong westerly winds will gusts to 30+KTS will continue past 18Z
before slowly decreasing in the evening. These winds will cause
crosswinds on north-south oriented runways.
SPECIFICS FOR KSTL:
MVFR ceilings are expected to clear out between 14-15Z. Then dry
and VFR conditions are expected the rest of the period. Strong
westerly winds will continue through the day, before slowly
decreasing late this afternoon and this evening.
