.SYNOPSIS...18/833 AM.
Gusty north to northwest winds are expected to continue through
Sunday, the with strongest winds expected Saturday night. Weak
Santa Ana winds are expected Monday and Tuesday with temperatures
warming above normal.

.SHORT TERM (TDY-SUN)...18/936 AM.
Northerly winds have weakened in most areas this morning but are
still gusty and in a few locations still in the 40-60 mph range.
As is typical with northerly wind events speeds will continue to
drop off through mid afternoon and the 18z ending time of the
advisories looks good for all except srn SB County and the I5
corridor. Will go ahead and let the other areas expire for now,
but as mentioned below another passing trough late Saturday will
inject additional upper support and cold air advection into the
region likely pushing winds up even stronger than they were last
night. So a little reprieve in the winds for the next 24-36 hours
before a stronger burst Saturday night into Sunday.
***From previous discussion***
Another little trof will ripple through the NW flow Saturday it
will add some cold air advection and tighten up the northerly
gradients. Winds will decrease in the morning and then will begin
to increase again later in the afternoon. Look for another 3 to 6
degrees of warming under sunny skies.
The cool air advection and tighter gradients will lead to another
round of strong winds Saturday night. Current forecast is a little
weaker than previous and now it looks like a high end advisory
level event rather than a warning north wind event. Advisories
look likely for the SBA/VTA/LA mtns, the LA/VTA vlys excluding the
San Gabriel, the SBA south coast, the Santa Monica mtns and the
Malibu coastal strip.
The winds will take a little more of a NE turn Sunday morning as
the sfc high shifts a little to the east. The advisory level winds
will subside in the morning. There will sub advisory winds in the
afternoon from a little more of an easterly direction. Another 3
to 6 degrees of warming is expected and max temps will generally
be 3 to 6 degrees above normal.
.LONG TERM (MON-THU)...18/326 AM.
A substantial warm up is on tap for Monday and Tuesday as an upper
high and a weak Santa Ana combine. Hgts will be near 591 DM and
there will be about 3 MB of offshore flow from both the east and
north. It does not look like there will be any need for wind
advisories. Max temps will be the big story. Look for another 3 to 6
degrees of warming Monday and then 1 to 3 degrees of additional
warming from the vlys inland Tuesday as the coast;s temps remain
the same. Vly temps will be about 10 degrees above normal with
plenty of readings in the 90s.
Trofing and onshore flow returns for Wed and Thu there will be
cooling each day and Max temps will return to near normal. Can
rule out some low clouds but seeing how reluctant they have been
to form this month opted to keep the skies clear.
More high pressure and offshore flow slated for Friday and the
weekend for another warm up.

At 12Z at KLAX, there was no marine inversion. There was a moist
layer around 2000 feet deep.
Except for some MVFR cigs across eastern/southern L.A. County
through mid morning, skies are expected to be clear and conds will
be VFR through the period. Gusty N to NE winds will affect the
mountains, the Santa Clarita Valley and the south coats of SBA
County this morning, with associated local LLWS and moderate UDDF.
KLAX...Moderate to high confidence in the 12Z TAF. VFR conds
expected through the period. There is a 20% chance of MVFR cigs
between 12Z and 17Z this morning. There is a 20-30% chance that
east winds will persist through 17Z and there is a 20% chance that
east wind speeds will reach 10-12 knots this morning.
KBUR...High confidence in the 12Z TAF with VFR conds expected
through the period. There is a 20% chance of MVFR cigs between
12Z and 17Z this morning.

Outer Waters...Moderate to high confidence. Gale force winds were
widespread across the outer waters. Winds should drop below Gale
force across the northern outer waters zone (PZZ670) by mid
morning, but there is a 30% chance they could persist through the
afternoon. Across the remainder of the outer waters, Gale force
winds will likely continue through late tonight. Thereafter, winds
will likely remain at or above Small Craft Advisory (SCA) Levels
through Tue, except possibly just Mon for the southernmost areas.
Inner Waters N of Pt. Sal...Moderate to high confidence. Seas will
be near to slightly above SCA levels this morning. NW winds will
increase to SCA levels this afternoon and continue through late
tonight. SCA level NW winds are likely during the afternoon and
evening hours Sat, and there is a 40-50% chance of SCA level NW
winds Sun afternoon and evening.
Santa Barbara Channel...Moderate confidence. SCA level W to NW
winds are expected across western portions through late tonight.
There is a 20-30% chance that SCA level winds will affect eastern
areas this afternoon and evening. SCA level W to NW winds are
likely across western portions again Sat afternoon and possibly
into the evening.
For the inner waters south of Pt. Mugu...Moderate confidence.
Winds and seas are expected to remain below SCA levels through
Tue. However, there is a 20-30% chance of SCA level W-NW winds
across western portions this afternoon and evening. There is a
20-30% chance of SCA level N to NE winds near shore from Pt. Mugu
to Santa Monica Sunday morning and Monday morning.
Rather hazardous short period seas are expected across all of the
waters during much of the forecast period due to strong winds and
large, steep seas, combined with a long period NW swell.

Sure is expected to build to 10 to 15 feet on west and northwest
facing beaches of SLO and SBA Counties today, peaking late this
morning through this evening. Surf will gradually subside tonight
through Saturday morning. There is a chance that the surf will
remain near or above the high surf threshold of 10 feet through
Saturday evening.
South of Point Conception, the northwesterly component of the
swell means that less of the energy will make it to shore.
However, the west facing beaches of Ventura and Los Angeles
Counties could have surf up to 4 to 6 feet later today.
