.SYNOPSIS...18/824 PM.
A low pressure trough approaching the California Coast will bring
significantly cooler conditions, and periods of rain as well as
mountain snow Wednesday and Thursday. Drier and warmer conditions
will return going into the weekend.

.SHORT TERM (MON-THU)...18/840 PM.
Another day of offshore flow generated several record high
temperatures across the region today, including LAX, Long Beach,
UCLA, Burbank, Woodland Hills (tie), Santa Barbara Airport, and
Paso Robles. The offshore flow has begun to weaken this evening
and will transition to onshore on Tuesday in advance of an
approaching weather system. Current satellite imagery showing a
cutoff low pressure system around 600NM to our south generating
some high clouds across southern California this evening, with
some lightning strikes observed off the coast of northern Baja.
The onshore flow will bring a significant cooling trend to the
region on Tuesday, with high temperatures 10 to 20 degrees cooler
than today across coastal and valley areas. Marine layer clouds
and fog are expected to make a return later tonight into
Tuesday morning for areas north of Point Conception.
Latest 00Z NAM model showing cold core low pressure system
tracking right down the coast of Southwest California late
Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. This cold 545DM
low has 500 mb temperatures of -24 degrees celsius, which will
support instability (LI's -2 to -4, and CAPE's 200 to 500 J/kg).
Current forecast looks on track for potential for brief heavy
downpours and slight chance of thunderstorms late Tuesday night
into Wednesday, with the focus south of Point Conception
(especially Los Angeles county southward).

Snow levels remain around 6,000 feet over Ventura and Los Angeles
Counties. Expecting up to 6 inches in the Los Angeles County
mountains and about half that in the Ventura County mountains. The
eastern San Gabriel mountains could see higher amounts. Still a
possibility for a Winter Storm Advisory.
Rainfall amount estimates call for less than a tenth of an inch
across SLO and most of SBA counties. in San Luis Obispo County, a
tenth to a quarter of an inch for SBA county, up to a quarter for
VTA county and generally a quarter to a half inch for LA county.
The eastern San Gabriels will see the most rain with nearly an
inch of rain possible.
Temperatures will remain below normal on Thursday under the trough
and clouds.
.LONG TERM (FRI-MON)...18/202 PM.
Temperatures are forecast to make a gradual climb back to normal
through the extended period. Skies should finally be sunny again
by Sunday and the lack of cloud cover will make for some cooler
nights and a possible return to frost in interior locations. There
is another upper-level low near the area, but it is forecast to
remain in the east Pacific, to our west, and should not affect our
conditions. Higher pressure starts to push back in by Monday
afternoon.
