Issued at 501 AM CST Sun Nov 24 2019 Hayes county has been added to the Winter Storm Watch. && .SHORT TERM...(Today through Monday) Issued at 325 AM CST Sun Nov 24 2019 The temperature forecast today uses a blend of the warmer guidance plus bias correction for highs in the 60s. This is warmer than the RAP and HRRR models by a couple of degrees. Some high clouds are expected this afternoon but otherwise the sun should provide warming. Lows tonight fall into the 20s and 30s using the same guidance blend. A weak Pacific cold front, currently moving through Washington State, should move into nrn Nebraska late tonight. The Pacific front will drop through Nebraska Monday and become stationary across Kansas. Presumably, the front will remain in place long enough for low level moisture to pool for the the snow that is expected to develop across Nebraska Monday night. .LONG TERM...(Monday night through Saturday) Issued at 325 AM CST Sun Nov 24 2019 The models are in very good agreement Monday night and Tuesday tracking a storm system through Nebraska Monday night and Tuesday. The storm system is currently off the coast of the Alaska Panhandle. The models cluster the h700mb low track near or along the Kansas border Monday night and then lift it through Sern Nebraska Tuesday. Temperatures aloft at 700-500mb are favorable for snow growth Monday night and Tuesday but at lower levels, the cold conveyor may lack moisture and saturation for seeder feeder processes. The models suggest the warm air blowing across the snow covered Rockies will moisten up the atmosphere below 700mb. The storm system then relies on frontogenesis from 850mb to 700mb for saturation. There is no gulf moisture inflow for this system. The snow forecast is uncertain given the potential for dry air below 700mb. Also, the 00z NAM shows a snow band forming across western Nebraska Monday night which puts down several inches of snow. This band weakens and falls apart Tuesday morning. A second snow band develops farther east across central Nebraska Tuesday afternoon. If the first snow band is weak or does not materialize due to the lack of saturation, the snow forecast will be too generous. The official snow forecast follows the model blend which predicted up to 9 inches of snow across swrn Nebraska where a winter storm watch is in place. This forecast is close to WPC across swrn Nebraska but lower than WPC across ncntl Nebraska where dry air may affect snow growth. Another winter storm system will affect the cntl and nrn Plains Thursday through Saturday. The track of the system is very uncertain but all models suggest the storm will be strong. The snow forecast follows the model blend which is close to WPC favoring nrn Nebraska for accumulating snow. The best chance of snow for this system is Saturday. && .AVIATION...(For the 18Z TAFS through 18Z Monday afternoon) Issued at 1117 AM CST Sun Nov 24 2019 VFR will continue through the forecast period for western and north central Nebraska. Wind is the primary concern as W/NW surface winds gust to 20kts this afternoon. && .FIRE WEATHER... Issued at 325 AM CST Sun Nov 24 2019 The model blended dew point forecast plus bias correction suggested 15% humidity for a couple of hours across southwest Nebraska.
