Poor aviation weather is expected this forecast period due to
occasional periods of SHRA/TSRA moving across the area and
considerable amounts of MVFR/IFR category ceilings in the very
humid airmass. Sfc wind could be gusty and somewhat variable
and dependent on individual convective storms. /EC/

.DISCUSSION...
It has been a rather busy evening at the WFO. An overachieving MCS
has thrown a bit of a wrench into the forecast, making further
south and eastward progress than previously anticipated and
bringing damaging wind gusts along with it. Over the past 2-3
hours, the line has begun to slow down and gradually weaken and
this trend is expected to continue over the next few hours as the
line continues eastward toward the AL line. SPC mesoanalysis shows
effective SRH on a downward trend as the line continues eastward,
so the tornado threat is dwindling considerably. We still can't
rule out some stronger wind gusts before the line moves out of the
area. We'll aggressively clear counties from the Tornado Watch
behind the line.

Pretty much our entire suite of model guidance has handled this
situation poorly, which makes trying to figure out what will
happen overnight more complicated. Typically in this situation,
one might expect the MCS to stabilize the atmosphere for the
remainder of the night. However, with a very strong low level jet
developing overnight across AR/LA/west MS and SPC mesoanalysis
already showing strong low level moisture transport northward
across this region, redevelopment is very much possible. In fact,
some redevelopment is already ongoing across western LA right now.
Thus we will maintain higher POPs for the overnight hours across
much of the Delta and areas west of the MS River. Given the lack
of confidence in what specific area might receive the highest
rainfall amounts overnight, we'll not change the configuration of
the Flash Flood Watch at this stage. Flash flooding will be a
hazard to monitor closely overnight, though, given the heavy rain
that has already fallen in many areas in association with this
evening's MCS. Forecast updates have already been sent. /DL/

Prior discussion below:

Tonight through Friday Night:

An element of the short-term forecast to watch for is the
potential for flash flooding. The MCS moving into the area this
evening will bring storms producing heavy rainfall, and we will
continue the Flash Flood Watch for far northwestern portions of
the area heading into tomorrow. As the MCS decays overnight, the
outflow boundary may help to focus additional re-development of
heavy showers and storms overnight into tomorrow morning. With an
expected 40-50kt low level jet interacting with such an outflow
boundary, this overnight convection could overachieve with
rainfall production. Some of the hi-res guidance has backed off
from earlier depictions of intense rainfall, but we will continue
to monitor for signs of training storms setting up overnight.
Apart from the Flash Flood Watch, we will continue to advertise an
Elevated threat for flash flooding across areas which are already
waterlogged after weeks of heavy rain events.

During the day on Thursday, wherever the outflow boundary starts the
day, expect this to be the focus for the new day's thunderstorm
development. Storms should build south and east throughout the day as
they propagate into the unstable airmass. Given some spatial
uncertainties following tonight's round of convection, the Slight
risk for severe weather has been expanded to cover the entire
forecast area. Damaging wind gusts and possibly some hail will be
the primary severe weather hazards, and the possibility of training,
slow-moving thunderstorms will expand the threat for flash flooding
across the area tomorrow. Again, the greatest risk for flash
flooding will be where soils are already saturated, but high rain
rates and the possibility for training storms will keep the threat
for at least localized flooding a concern through the day. /NF/

Friday through Tuesday...

A wet pattern will continue Friday through the weekend as the region
remains under southwest flow aloft. A front will stall generally
across the central part of the forecast area. Several disturbances
will move across the front, which will result in a period of
prolonged of heavy rain, and subsequently flash flooding. While
severe weather cannot be completely ruled out during the latter
portions of the week, this is something that will need to be
assessed on a smaller scale from residual boundaries/heating/shear,
etc. The bigger concern during this time period will be from the
continued rainfall, leading to flooding issues. After the forecasted
amounts of 3-4.5 inches in the Delta(1-2 inches elsewhere) in the
short term, another 2-3.5 inches of rain will be possible in the
west from Friday through Saturday night. 1-2 inches will be possible
elsewhere. Will continue to message this in our HWO and graphics for
an extended period and the Flash Flood Watch will likely need to be
extended in area and time at some point.

The rain will finally move out of the region later Sunday night as
the upper trough pushes through the region. Upper ridging and
surface high pressure will move into the region for the early
portions of the week. Drier air will move in and conditions look
rather pleasant across the area. /28/

At 418 AM CDT, Meteorologists were tracking a strong thunderstorm 7
miles southeast of Parkdale, or 7 miles east of Wilmot, moving
northeast at 40 mph.

Dime size hail and winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with
this storm.

  Eudora around 435 AM CDT.
  Chicot Junction around 440 AM CDT.
  Lake Village around 445 AM CDT.
